This gives me hope for the planet. Hemsworth - thanks for helping do something positive with your notoriety and funds. I just want to give each of these little guys a hug before sending them on their way. Good luck little devils!
Hope they declare open fire on any dingo that comes near the Barrington Tops, we don't need history to repeat itself. Saving these rare marsupials is much more important than an invasive species that's doing pretty well for itself. I love all animals and all, but when it comes to wolves, they (like any species) should be protected where they belong (North America and Eurasia). They've got no bussines in Australia, a land that, until it collides with Asia or Africa millions of years into the future, belongs to the marsupials, reptiles and giant flightless birds.
Dingoes weren't the sole reason behind the extinction of the devil. The evidence points to a combination of human activity, climate change & a very harsh El Niño, with dingoes only being partially to blame. Plus, there is some controversial evidence to suggest that mainland devils may have survived as recently as 300 years ago. In Tasmania, feral dogs don't pose a threat to the devils, with many introduced predators being quite cautious around them. Dingoes on mainland have been known to run scared from tiger quolls of all things! Plus, dingoes still have a ecological role as semi-native apex predators, In lieu of large marsupial or reptilian predators like Thylacoleo & Megalania respectively. So like the wolverine to a wolf or honey badger to the jackel, I think the devils will do fine against dingoes.
