True. I would just add that George handpicked friends to become the Traveling Wilburies. He'd been enormously underappreciated in the Beatles, so no wonder he wanted out!!! That was the only way he could finally start putting out some of his stockpile of incredible music!! "All Things Must Pass", "Beware of Darkness" & "Isn't it a Pity" are a few that really deserve to be checked out. Everybody in the Traveling Wilburies was incredible in their own right, but without George they wouldn't exist!!

Dylan is a deep well you really must explore one of these days, Harri. Maybe start with some of his early songs in folk/protest style, and follow his progression from there chronologically. You will be blown away by his poetic imagery and emotional force. Dylan is one of the true greats of 20th century music. He was a huge influence on John Lennon and the Beatles in general, and through them, on practically everyone else.

I always like George's little sarcastic smile as he sings the line "Oh, the sweet smell of success" since the song is kind of about all the hyping up and dissing down and general craziness projected at anyone who's a big name rock star/celebrity. But, of course, they're still just human underneath it all and would appreciate being handled with a bit more care... The End of the Line is another reflective song, about dealing mentally with the inevitability of death. I love how this band embraced ideas that come later in life, and made them rock!

Jeff Lynne produced and co-wrote albums for George Harrison, Tom Petty, and Roy Orbison around that time. (Roy died soon after this, just as his career was beginning to flourish again. His bad heart finally gave out at 52.)

They all played acoustic guitar, Dylan [Lucky Wilbury] sang harmonica, Harrison [Nelson Wilbury] played slide of course (and electric) and Lynne [Otis Wilbury] played electric guitar, bass and drums. Tom Petty was Charlie T. Wilbury Jr and Roy Orbison was Lefty Wilbury. The myth is they were brothers with 1 father and 5 different mothers.

Harri, I'm so glad you reacted to the music video! I'm sure you can see now why I stressed the importance of that. Same thing goes for the next song from them, called, "End of the Line"...it is another visual treat, so the official music video is a must. The band was started when George Harrison hired Jeff Lynne to produce his album, Cloud 9. The two legends immediately became best friends, and during production George suggested to Jeff that they should start their own band. They discussed who they wanted in the band, what the band's name would be, and soon thereafter the supergroup was formed. Jeff does sing on, "Handle With Care", but not solo. He pairs with Roy at one point, and with two others at other points. For this first song by the band, Jeff really had his Producer hat on, and I think in deference to his heroes (Orbison, Harrison, and Dylan) and peers (Petty), he stayed back a bit and let them shine. However, Jeff does sing much more prominently in the next Wilburys' song you'll be doing, "End of the Line", which we're all looking forward to seeing you react to. :)

They did a couple of albums, different guys took the lead on different songs. All of them are good. They all linked up as friends of friends. Tom brought Bob along, George brought Jeff. They all enjoyed the vibe and the company. Think Jeff was left to do most of the sound production afterwards. So it's got a bit of an ELO feel.

Hey there! So you finally hit one of the songs I suggested ages ago. George handpicked friends to become the Traveling Wilburies after escaping the Beatles where he was enormously underappreciated. Sadly we've lost Tom, Roy & of course George. I'm going to try yet again w/my major suggestions that I've mentioned many times. There are 2 Kennedy Center Honors performances that are just BEYOND. First, Heart performing "Stairway to Heaven" for Led Zeppelin, & Adam Lambert performing "Believe" for Cher. Both of these are jaw dropping. If you can get Robert Plant to tear up & apparently say this is the only cover of their song he likes, & then seeing the joy he & Jimmy Page had when they see John Bonham's son Jason playing the drums, it is quite an accomplishment!! And again....MONTHS AGO...you said on another video that you were going to check out "All Things Must Pass" by George Harrison. I was so excited, but it didn't happen. I also suggest "Beware of Darkness" & "Isn't it a Pity." I guess the bottom line is that I'd love it if you'd reply to me and tell me straight up if suggestions are just ignored unless I pay you. That would be much appreciated!!

Harri, at this time Jeff Lynne was working as a producer. He had already produced George's Cloud 9, also Tom Petty (he co-wrote "Free falling, Petty's greatest success), and was producing Roy Orbison. George suggested they could form a band, and everybody jumped in. Bod Dylan had a studio at home... The rest is history. Your other reaction from one of their songs, "End of the line" was done after Roy passed away. You'll see they left his guitar.on a rockin' chair...

George Harrison got these guys together to record a song for a solo album of his. They sounded so good George didn't use the song on his album and they got together and wrote the rest of the first Wilbury's album. RIP to Tom Petty,George Harrison and Roy Orbison

Orbison Toured with The Beatles in 1963 and Jeff Lynne helped produce the last 3 Beatles songs, taken from left over John Lennon Demos from the 70s and with added material from the surivivors in the 90s(Now and then just dropped, Jeff Lynne wasn't involved in the latest work on it, but was involved in it when George Harrison was was still alive).

Roy Orbison is responsible for some of the greatest vocals in Rock History. He was Elvis' favorite singer. They were friends and played during the same era in the same venues. You need to do more of his amazing songs, like "Pretty Woman", "Only the Lonely" "Crying" and "Mean Woman Blues".
