4 February 2022, 9:27 a.m. A historic moment at Adony. After 99 years, yet another Hungarian seaplane lands on the Danube again. This is not a one-off landing, but a series of test flights. Over two days, the Aeroexpress aircraft will make numerous approaches, landings and manoeuvres on the river. This time, the stretch of the Danube before Adony will be the 17-35 runway, which is more than 1000 metres long.
Over two days the pilots, who normally fly the Airbus A320 and A321 for a living, are preparing for a total of eight hours of test flights. What soon will take place at Adony on the first weekend of February is the result of many years of preparation. Specialists from several authorities are watching from the shore. The river is closed to sailing for the duration of the flights, and the area around the landing and take-off zone is secured by several boats from the Hungarian Water Rescue Service.
