► How Has The World and Landscapes Changed, Then And Now...
► Hello everyone and welcome back to Mystery Scoop.
In this video, we compare Then and Now photos of the same locations to see how much the world has changed or perhaps remained the same in the last 100 years. This photo is taken in 1913 and depicts New York's famous 5th Avenue, as seen from 51st Street, looking north. A very busy road indeed and there can be seen some of the many methods of transportation that New Yorker's took to get around the city. There were horse drawn carriages and other types of automobiles, most likely Ford Models, traveling both north and south. And of course, sidewalks were crowded by many dressed-up pedestrians going about their daily business. This photo, on the other hand, is from 2014, as seen on a Google street map. As you can see, the changes are dramatic and nearly astonishing. With a small number of pedestrians on the streets, most of whom are dressed casually, the transportation and city architecture look radically different. However, as this other photograph shows, sometimes only the people may evolve, whilst our cityscapes remain nearly identical.
If you found this interesting, please stay with us as we move on with some more "then and now" comparison images showing the past and present world. If you wish to see how the world changed in the last 100 years, please check the video for amazing photos of places from the past compared to photos of today 2021. See if you recognize places compared in before and after photos.

People are so scruffy now. So much else is still similar. The beautiful oak tree has been given its space. The old buildings have changed very little. But the mud and cobbles of the streets have been improved. What a great pity that people have degenerated into really ugly clothing. It seems we have lost our sense of beauty in ourselves. I think Hong Kong reflects the absolute materialism of the world now rather than the community of bygone ages

Hong Kong was indeed beautiful but we must remember it was a swamp and there was much disease due to the heat. The swamp was drained to create a healthier trading post. I doubt any of us would have wanted to live in Hong Kong Peninsula in the 1960s or before. The saddest part of the transition is Hong Kong is now a consumer dream and financiers playground. It is a pity there wasn’t a middle road that could have been taken. Certainly Hong Kong Central in the 1950s when my parents were there was beautiful with the Tram and the busses and the beautiful bamboo houses. All knocked down in the name of progress.

It's a rather well known fact that Europe with it's thousands of years old history and culture preserve their past historic buildings, restaurants, hotels more than we Americans do! We seem to love to take a wrecking ball to our history if we can and often do! When I was in Paris I ate at the famous Tour D'Argent restaurant many moons ago which is over 400 years old. In Vienna even to this day there is a famous candy/dessert shop with a gorgeous crystal chandelier that is from the 1600s still operated by the same family! In recent years here, they shut down the famous Durgin Park restaurant at Quincy Market which opened to the public in 1827, for shame! Once we tear down past historic buildings and old beautiful landmark restaurants, hotels and inns there is no getting them back! Seeing those taxis reminds me of the old ones in Manhattan! My husband is a born and bred New Yorker and briefly drove a cab while going to NYU , knows the "Big Apple" like the back of his hand. We met in the Village at New School University formerly the New School for Social Research. Much change is always going on in NYC, esp the rents! I only paid $90 a month for a one bedroom/one bathroom rent controlled old brownstone apt on the Upper East Side in the early 1970s, today that same apt goes for $2600 a month! And we thought inflation was bad in the 1970s? LOL The prices have gone through the stratosphere, shows you the level of GREED ever since then! Subway tokens were 35 cents a ride, today, $2.75 a ride! I also remember the subway seats were pale yellow whicker seats before the plastic seats having been born in 1948, post WW2! The ever changing scenes! Thanks for sharing these great photos, "time doesn't stand still", does it? lol
