How does the belt not just slip off the flywheel all the time on the steam machine? I'd think placing both wheels parallel to each other like that would be a hassle.
Thing is, several of the tractors were American Manufacturers, like McCormick-Deering (IH), and John Deere. Also early American tractors were designed similarly as well. Minneapolis-Moline made front drive tractors as well as some that were designed as field and on road service like the UDLX.
