First of all, I'm going to daut that, just because the series of ~25 wars that they lost against the imperials in the first half of the 16th century are going to put them behind by quite a bit. Also nobody is complaining about them winning a lot of wars, but it is how they win them; the french won the Second World War... after being occupied for 5 years and not even participating in the war, just to get their arses saved by their allies. The Thirty Years War was also won by the french... after their capital was occupied by the spanish for half a year and they were losing at all fronts, only winning because the dutch were beating the spanish back and the swedish won a series of victories against the imperials. The War of the Spanisch Succession was another french victory... after they got the shit beat out of them only winning because emperor Leopold I. died and after that most of their enemies wanted to make peace, winning essentially by just waiting and getting their teeth kicked in. I could go on, but i think you get the picture.
