The history of the calendar goes back thousands of years. Roman Emperor Julius Caesar introduced a calendar in 46 BC, this calendar was called the Julian calendar after him. In 1582, Pope Gregory improved the Julian calendar and implemented a new calendar. This calendar is called the Gregorian calendar after the name of Pope Gregory. As an improvement to the Julian calendar, the date of 15 October 1582 was implemented directly in place of 5 October 1582 by moving the calendar date forward 10 days after 4 October 1582.
