I walked up and down Carnaby Street last week as a tourist , the street looked very bland and so were the way people were dressed , times have certainly changed .
It was non-existent back in the 90's! Peaked again momentarily when Kingly Court opened, but that and Neal's Yard 'Emporium' are just food quarters now.
Try finding a satin shirt for a guy now! I remember buying a coral coloured shetland wool sweater at John Stephen. Incense was burning and "Sand and Foam" by Donovan was playing.
It still had it in the 80s and early 90s. The clothing was still youth orientated and priced well. The shops changing are the problem. It is now like everywhere else.
I've still got my Melandis catalogue when I used to buy clothes from there in the early 80's. I used to go to the Carnaby Cavern as well but I soon realised their clothes were poor quality.
