That’s the rule now, but I’ve seen even Karpov move the rook first like it was the normal way of doing it. I saw a Chess960 game, where the king wouldn’t move during the castle. Wesley So moved the rook around the king, and an arbiter paused the game and caused a disturbance! I’m thinking: geez, was he supposed to tap the king with his finger and then touch the rook? How strict they are...

When you consider the final result of all those world championship games played, the final score tally was Karpov 19 wins and Kasparov 21 wins with 104 draws. I would not say Kasparov was a superior player to Karpov. Karpov remained 2nd in world for years proving he would have remained 1st had Kasparov not been around. Karpov was 39 by the time they played the last WC match and lost by one 1 point. So he was past his peak in chess terms and still fought Kasparov until the last games, an amazing feat which few recognize with a 12 year gap in age between them. For me Karpov 's positional chess was superior to Kasparov who was more of a tactical player.
Mikhail Tal is the most interesting player (far more aggressive than Kasparov) Bobby Fisher is the best 20th century player Magnus Carlsen is the best of all time (unbelievable endgame player) At my university we had a GM that beat 7 out of 8 1800elo players blindfolded simultaneously. We were a warm-up for when he beat the best player from every fraternity blindfolded simultaneously (~20games). He wasn't even our #1, I think he was #3 on our team, but probably the best at that trick.

Fischer wasn't "way better" than Spassky. He had never beaten him prior to their match. And if it hadn't been for all his antics, that clearly threw Spassky off, he might not even have won in 72. In the latter half of the match Fischer was "running away in every game", as Kramnik put it.

Shadyantra was invented in India and Shri Lanka because Shri Lanka was part of india 8800 yrs back. Initially it was named as Dhyut. Shadyantra is based on 10x10 board called Dashpaad. Chaturanga was evolved from Shadyantra in 200 BC after it was latter was banned. And yes Chaturanga was played on 8x8 board..
In my honest opinion.. kasparov was the greatest champion of all times.. just because he wasn't born to play chess like magnussen who was born togheter with a chess board.. trained since he was a little boy to play chess. don't get me wrong magnussen is the best, so far in my opinion, but kasparov was self learned player.. when i think of chess i think of kasparov, when i think of kasparov i think of a genius, a visionar, a person with a great imagination... when i think of magnussen i think of a machine that was raised only for one purpose... don't get triggered right away, i'm probably biased because i grew up in a chess family that has taught me chess and showed me books about kasparov and fischer and karpov when magnus was like 7 years old.. and i was 4... so.
You are entitled to have your opinion, obviously. Many chess fans still consider Kasparov as the greatest player ever. I love the geniality and attacking gameplay in chess and so for me Morphy, Tal and Fischer are unique. Carlsen is the best product of the modern chess preparation using the computer as the main tool. However, he may not be so spectacular but his numbers are just undeniable and he is clearly on the way to be the greatest player of chess.
@@deeperglobalism8489 yeah i know, i'm talking from a view of an average joe.. i don't play chess really well i cannot concentrate troughout a full game because of adhd.. but i enjoy chess nevertheles. chess has been in my family for more than 80 years starting with my great grandfather. when a child is born its taught chess as soon as it can understand basic moves. love your channel! we all love kasparov as he has a house in croatia near our houses in the adriatic see in crikvenica where he comes during summer sometimes on vacation. and he playes simultanious against some of my family. so we all got to know him a little bit and talk to him. thats why i'm saying i'm biased to say hes my chess hero. he is getting old but is still one the best and to watch him play live is really something different. merry christmas to everyone.

The Guptas ruled ancient India when Hindu-Buddhist -Jain culture flourished. Chaturanga (the original Indian name for Chess) is a Sanskrit word, Sanskrit bring an ancient language that many Indian languages derive from and which continues to be the language of Hindu-Buddhist-Jain scriptures and rituals. Associating Gupta empire to modern day India is as accurate as associating Ottoman empire with modern day Turkey or British Empire with Britain. perfectly ok to associate modern India as the primary inheritor of ancient India, and thereby the invention of zero, decimal system and chess and the place of origin of Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, Sikhism etc. You can draw a socio-cultural continuity from the Gupta period to present day India. Ruy Lopez is famous only for the opening (Spanish opening). Despite the opening became very popular, he never did anything great as chess player. Gioacchino Greco is mentioned at 5:57.

He also wrote “Libro de la invención liberal y arte del juego de ajedrez” building on what Damiano had written decades before. He also introduced the rule of beating a pawn en passant, pretty good for someone who “never did anything great as a chess player”.

The en-passant rule was codified in 1880 and commenced to be popular in the 13th century as a counter-move to the double-pawn move (created to speed up the game). Hard to believe that Ruy Lopez invented this due to the time-wise issue. Not hard to believe that he tried to take paternity also of it. Winning a "tournament in Rome" does not make anybody world champion. The true real unofficial first world champion was Paul Charles Morphy, even if does not make sense to talk about "unofficial" world champion. Either you are or you are not the world champion!

Chess was invented by Persians, Chataranga is a different game completely and has nothing to do with chess. As Persians also invented checkers and backgammons, they are surely the inventor of the real chess.
No idea about backgammon or checkers. Our research was focused on chess and the fact that chaturanga, invented by Indians, was the precursor of chess is widely recognized. Modern chess is the final result of a long evolution of the game itself as narrated in the video. The rules have been amended over the centuries in several parts of the world.

Indian chatarg is totally different game but indians want to attribute the invention of chess to themselves. Checkers has exactly the same type of board as chess but not chatrang therefore Persians invented chess as they claim. Persians were extremely good at maths which also make them more likely to be the inventors of chess. Also, India was under persian empire at that time which clarifies everything even more. All sources say chess was ‘probably’ invented in India which means noone is sure.
