📜 History of England: The Devastation of France - From the end of the battle of Crecy, Edward charged on to besiege Calais (successfully), and then returned home. Right about then was when the Black Plague hit Europe head-on. But Edward carried on as king establishing order among his subjects, forming the Knights of the Garter. In France, John le Bel, son of Philip, had learned from the French defeats and was making small victories here and there...

I'm not sure that's the lesson France learned from that battle. To be fair, when you have only two notable data points, there are a _lot_ of valid conclusions you can draw; we have several more (including some which will come up later in the series-no spoilers!)

Actually england's flagg was borrowed from the repubblic of Genoa. Genoa adopted the St George’s Cross as its flag and St George as its patron saint during the Crusades. The symbol was adopted by England toward the end of the religious wars, in the 13th century, with English ships flying the flag of Genoa as a deterrent to enemies. For the privilege, the English monarch paid an annual tribute to the doge of Genoa. However, the tribute apparently fell by the wayside after the republic collapsed.

The exact same thing happen to Caesar, at one point he was cornered by Pompey, and had Pompey just starved him to death he would have won. Instead because he had superior numbers, rested troops and the senate was nagging him he decided to just finnish him off in a massive attack. Caesar being Caesar somehow managed to win tough. So people dont rush into situations, unless there is no options

I think it speaks to the value of Geography how man of these places would be (expected as) major battlefields of the 20th century.
