Episode 49 of "History of Entrance Themes." This videos goes through some of the theme songs used by former WWE Superstar, The Rock. (This does not include themes he used as part of a tag team)
I like how he kinda keep the base melody from the Nation of domination theme. He kinda pays homage to what broke him out of a potential career ending rut and turned his entire career around to the star we know him as today. I think that’s dope.
I'm not sure how much input the guys had. I just know that Jim Johnston said that his themes, specifically the rocks, he wrote the themes based on their look and name/gimic. He said that the rocks theme just slowly evolved as rock's personality and fame grew. It just got bigger, and bigger and bigger. Rocks theme has always been one of my favorites. It just fit him so well.
Everything about The Rock was iconic; his many catch phrases, his signature moves, his fashion, his facial expressions, and his theme songs. He's the greatest to ever do it.
@@jgeorge2693 I like Do You Smell? As That’s always a good one and has a killer line at the end where he says “the rocks gonna take this cd, turn it sideways, and stick it straight up...” definitely got it most right with the intro drums and solo.
it`s true that it`s much better than the current intro. But I think Rock stopped using it because his voice doesn`t sound like this anymore. It changed around 2001-02
#7 = his best Nation theme #10 = when he hit his Rock stride (#11 is a cool bop, just not exactly Rock) #14 = Rock goes into higher gear #16 = Best all-round version of his theme Also, Jim Johnston needs to be inducted into the WWE HOF!
Pretty dope how much he started off with that cheesy/smiley boy gimmick into becoming a charismatic People’s champion. Gives me hope in life every time.
The cheesy smiley boy gimmick wasn't Dwayne's idea, that was the character that the WWE gave him when he debuted. He didn't have a choice but to use Rocky Maivia even though he hated the name, because he didn't want to be seen as a carbon copy of his dad and his grandfather. The People's Champion gimmick came from when the WWE let Dwayne turn heel and address the fans for booing him. That character was created by the man himself, which is how he got so popular later on because he was no longer letting other people tell him what to do and who to be.
@@abraham8565 Same as Stone Cold with the RingMaster character LOL. That was sooooo bad. Wwe creative almost buried their two biggest stars that carried them
Starting after the Nation theme, every version of his theme has a tone/mood that perfectly foreshadows how much closer he was getting to the top, and by 2000, that version has that perfectly explosive sound to it that represents how explosive of a star he had become.
The Hollywood Rock was underrated and his theme song #18 will always be my favorite one. The helicopter flying through the city on the titantron is dope.
« Destiny » was the prototype , you can hear some of his « do you smell » drums in there 😎 so cool (Nation do you smell still the best them he had tho, with Corporate and Hollywood)
The fact he’s held on to the same/similar theme since his time tagging with Owen Hart is a tribute to Owen in and of itself. Even if it’s unintentional, it’s still an amazing gesture and sign of respect 🙌🏾
7:01 is his best nation theme 9:01 is his best heel theme 12:01 and 17:01 are his most underrated themes 13:01 is his most iconic 21:01 is his best theme overall since it’s a perfect balance of all his past themes (my opinion ofc)
@@rjnobarrett Thank GOD I'm not the only one who feels this way. I can literally remember the first time I heard him use the _IF_ you smell instead of the _DO_ you smell theme and I didn't like it. Also, for the OP, he used that theme as both a heel and a babyface.
Same, his Hollywood rock heel run was his best character. He absolutely loved playing it too. And he made some of the lower cards look amazing, like the hurricane, who he loved working with cos he was hilarious in promos.
13:00 The most electrifying man in sports entertainment history! I rung in the year 2000 (y2k) with that theme. I had it burned on a little CD and blasted it that whole night.
11:01 we start getting that icon guitar thrown in the theme. 13:01 we get what I think most of us would consider THE Rock theme. The tempo picked up, guitars boosted a bit more, the extra enthsiasm on the vocal intro. It's also interesting to realize that once Electrifying came out that the song got pitched down a half step (only just learning this now as I learn it on guitar). The Know Your Role Arena Version for me is pivotal Rock intro but Electrifying's Arena Edit is right up there as wel. Also, thank you for spending this time putting this video together ❤ Reminding me how good that Know Your Role track off WWF Aggression with Method Man was. Kane's theme also slapped off that soundtrack.
You just know if you hear 13:01 while in the ring your heart will just drop 15:01 shits about to go do down 16:01 people thought he was a joke at the time , but just thinking of it rock was at his best, beat Austin, Hogan, Hardy but sadly not Goldberg 22:01 this suits rock the most because it's fast paced and has more power to it
#7 The Rock's first time asking the question. #8 Epic version... cymbals are ridiculous..in a good way. (Probably my favorite theme) #10 Johnston seemed to perfect his own theme. This is flawless. #14 Again...Jim outdid himself...perfect. #16 Epic...speechless...top 2 favorite theme. #18 Johnston perfected his Hollywood theme... amazing.
I gotta say, 7:01 is straight fire, just as a song. The Rock laying BARS. Jim Johnston, you sir are a legend, and I'd like to meet you. You wrote basically every great WWE song. 12:01 Great to hear Jim Ross and Jerry The King Lawler. Two legendary and irreplaceable commentators that MADE the WWF/WWE what it was. What else could a kid look forward to on a Monday night?
I kinda like how every one in the Nation had a variation of the same theme. Because Owen's Nation theme was also very similar. Makes them feel like a unit.
I like how Jim Johnston was willing to tweak songs at the time to make them better. Unlike themes now that just seems to be generic theme #6 from some public domain music list.
Number 16 Rock stepped into the ultimate baby face roll. His run in 2001-2003 I feel he was able to pull out all the stops in his character. Promos and matches were on fire. His return for the invasion if my favorite in my book.
And that is when he lost cockiness and attitude and became too much heroic completely removing the sideburns and also stopped wearing the $500 Versace shirts.
This will always be my favorite. I could be wrong but this was right around Royal Rumble 99 and Wrestlemania 99 which was the height of my wrestling watching.
#14 is THE rock entrance music. 10/10. I noticed this is where Jim added some crisps to those hats with a touch of phaser/flanger, very nice. Guitar has some added bite to it for some extra grit. Jim, hats off to you 👏🏼 👏🏼
