In Williamsburg and borough park Hasidic communities in Brooklyn there’s also big controversy on the eruv. In Williamsburg mainly satmer opposes it, arguing that the BQE (bekewe;)) that passes through could potentially be a reshus hurabim (arguably this has to do with more complex politics as the eruv was created by Pupa who satmer had some kind of schism with). I do remember hearing something from the gemurah that you’re not aloud to oppose the idea of an eruv or something, any idea what I’m talking about?

Interesting my brother in NYC sent me an article on this last year too. We were raised with the understanding the Eruv was anything within 4 miles of the Synagogue and did not require a physical border due to the constraints a physical item would create. Such as how to host an Eruv in areas where Judaism is illegal such as in the Ghettos during the Holocaust or as mentioned in the video the breaking down of the barriers in France. Of course this could also been imprinted on us by our Grandmother who advised my mother on locations for a Jewish community in North Texas where we didn't have a huge presence. We ended up joining the largest community in the Metroplex but even then they did not have a physical Eruv and the way they ran Synagogues was a bit different. The Jewish Federation would find the most populated areas of young Jews and move all their funding and the Rabbi and the teachers there for the kids while the adults who were more settled just kept their smaller congregations and a Cantor. However for Holidays all of Denton, Fort Worth, Arlington, and Dallas would join at one Synagogue. Typically the one in Fort Worth because it is older than the Dallas one. Plus driving into Dallas is a nightmare. Anyway point was that 4 miles without a physical barrier has been very common in my life. Like the Ultra-Orthodox in Stockhol. Sweden who kicked out the Chassidim all live in the square surrounding their Synagogue which is hidden along a side street, but they didn't have a physical wire or wall closing off the property. Instead they just had a secluded court yard and an apartment building that backed up to it. Since I am older I understand the use of physical barriers to create the Eruv in places like NYC, but in less formal communities I just stick to within 4 miles as a rule of thumb. Anyway I am no Rabbi so these are just opinions and observations.
