When it comes to SM Entertainment, even as the biggest company in the KPop industry, they are no stranger to controversy and scandals either. Similar to the YG Scandal video I did, this video is a chronological snapshot of all the scandals that have occurred throughout the history of SMTOWN. Hope you all found this interesting! Thank your for including Shinhwa!!! I wouldn't call their SM situation a scandal though. They decided to stay together instead of staying with SM and became the first idol group to leave their label as a group and continue to perform as a group. But I will agree it was shitty of SM to not offer Dongwan a contract when it ended. I mean, have you heard that man sing? He is a powerhouse unto himself.

I know. It's human nature to want to be with someone. People wouldn't like it if their companies banned them from dating or marrying. You know why? Cause it's stupid. It's stupid and dumb to say Idol's can't date. They're humans, fans do not own them. If you don't like them dating, boohoo. Like.... It's insane. The lack of humanity in the korean music industry is insane.

Megan Z I'll never understand "fans" who boycott a group because one of the members is dating. As a fan aren't you supposed to be supportive? the whole situation about sungmin is a big mess, both party handled it badly. The fans have no right about he geting married but the way he block them from his sns doesn't help either. It's not just about he is geting marriage, it's more about how he handled it. Man, like it or not announce your marriage before a group comeback is bad timing. I'm not supporting anyone in this case but I think we international fan should stop exaggerating that kelf are mad because he is married, it's not as simple as that. sorry for my bad english

About the Tao Payment thing. He tried to pay, but sm never gave him the routing number to the bank. THEY delayed in giving him the correct information on PURPOSE so they could make it look bad on him.

I still find it so unfair that Taeyong is still receiving backlash for his 'scandal' even after it was proven that it wasn't actually true. SM forced him to apologize, even though he didn't even do anything wrong, and people still say he's a scammer and a bully. I'm not being a delusional fan but honestly anyone who knows even a little bit about Taeyong can see that he would probably never do something like that.

@Mean Whale there's a difference between sm controlling their artists' bad habits and forcing him to apologize when it was proven that he didn't do it. This scandal still impacts the way people see Taeyong and it made him anxious and sad when he just debuted. He felt for a really long time that he was pulling his group back and i know that sm is just doing what they think is best for their artists but sometimes their solution is just not the good one in the long run

@@musicismydrugxo8217 in my opinion, I believe SM are supporting their idols and protecting them. If SM is not being supported, he has probably already gone from the group. SM should have banished him already. SuJu's Sungmin and Kangin, Kangin we all know that he has some problems. They didn't " get rid from the group ", they banished him because of his actions and it affected the entire group, by doing that, it will teach Kangin for what he has done and hopefully he learned something from his mistakes. Just recently, Kangin's name was brought up together with JJY's chatroom scandal, you probably heard about it. Label SJ is established by SM, it's still SM's. Sungmin, what is SM did to Sungmin is not just by protecting Sungmin, it's also protecting Sungmin's private personal life (his wife) And of course the group. Knetz, boycotted Sungmin if SM continues on putting him in the group, Knetz might boycott the WHOLE GROUP. Which is a very bad idea. Since, they are in a GROUP, SM also has to protect the group or the other members. At least SM is better when handling scandals, look at JYP's Hyuna, when they found out about her dating with E'Dawn they forced her to leave the company. Just because she's dating. Goodness.

RAYNER Sometimes idols are forced to apologize for things that they did not do wrong. A NMB48 ex-member was forced to apologize although she was a victim to 2 men attack, and one of her members leaking her private things.

I don't know if Jonghyun's should have been mentioned in the video. I understand what the point was, the fact that SM was blamed for how he treats his artists regarding the subject of depression, but as far as is known, SM never pressed Jonghyun with his SHINee/solo activities or suppressed him with respect to his treatments, just for give an example. SM is a crap of company, there isn't doubt about it, but I don't see the meaning to relate it to what happened to Jjong. The subject of depression is something too big, it's not only in the music industry, in almost all of Korea (as a many others countrys) it isn't given the importance that it should have. Jonghyun struggled a lot with his depression, being with SHINee, composing, Blue Night, all that helped him with what he had, plus the support of his family and friends, but unfortunately his condition beat him. In the end, what happened wasn't the fault of anyone but the same illness that he suffered. As a shawol I just want people to stop relating him to his depression only and to remember him as the amazing and talented artist that he was and still is in our hearts. I'm sorry for the long comment, but even after a year has passed, this is still a really emotional and sensitive theme for me as well as for many others. Anyway, good video. Very informative.

I agree. As a shawol, it's sad to see people blaming the wrong reasons for his suicide. It strays us from what's actually important. Besides, I feel like at that point in his career he was very respected by the company both as an artist and as a person. SM is not an abstract concept, it's a company, and companies are made out of people. We often forget that

Loveurbad gurl the dog it’s living with one of Siwons cousins. And they initially said that it’s was ok that they didn’t want nothing and everything was fine and like a week later after the funeral they want the dogs head. But initially they said that they were really close to the Choi and the woman who died was very close to Siwons parents and the dog and she wouldn’t want fights between the families because she was already sick. She will die nowadays. But they suddenly change, and dude the real villains are them not Siwon or his parents or the dog

well, im almost 100% sure that suju had already known about this whole sungmin dating thing and ofc. they discussed his marriage before. and i think that if anyone thought that this was a problem for they would've talked it out. sungmin isnt that selfish neither ignorant of the schedule of the group. yet he got married and everyone was happy, also about the 'better' moment, sungmin got married just a few months before he enlisted so i do think that in the end he did the right thing.

Exo chen issue really remind me about sungmin. Fortunately, SM stand with chen and there are fans who up a petition to support chen stays in exo. But no such thing for sungmin. He is in hiatus for many years.

The Onew scandal still annoys me to this day. Those big kpop news sites (Allkpop in particular) mistranslated articles suggesting it was the private areas touched not the leg when no korean source even mentioned it. Even after being called out and being linked official police reports they only changed it hours later after most people had already seen it. If your a news source you should at least be translating articles correctly.

@Kunjal Gawas If YG was as big as SM they would have similar issues. When I say big I mean in terms of size. SM has far more models,singers, actors, production and crew than YG. Not to mention SM has been around and relevant a lot longer. People forget YG disbanded his first girl group shortly after debuting because the public felt they were too fat. And they only forget because YG wasn't relevant at all when they debuted since this was before BIGBANG.

What was not mentioned about the Onew case was that the Gangnam Police corroborated every witness testimony in favour of Onew. Also, SM didn't ask the girl to drop the charges, she dropped it on her own. There was a coverage of the incident where the reporter said after the friends explained to the girl she sighed and said let them go. Now I'm not saying to pardon him for getting drunk and sloppy. Yeah, he needs to get called out on that - but rather hypocritical if you've ever been drunk and sloppy. But the amount of hate he got because he wasn't the perfect person they thought he was is more than harsh - it was downright unfair. 10 years (at that point) of good behaviour and people couldn't give him the benefit of the doubt. Netizens lynched him even before they got clearer translations and even after the investigation came out.

I know! SHINee is basically my ult, and I've always had nothing but respect for Onew (who doesn't, honestly). It was heart-breaking seeing people tear him apart before the news could even cover the story properly. And once all of the details came out, it was clear a misunderstanding had taken place. Like you said, I'm not saying I'm okay with him having gotten dead drunk like that. It was irresponsible of him, to say the least. But for heaven's sake, it's not like he killed someone! And then he had to drop out of a show he was in, and then miss SHINee's Japan tour in September - all while he "reflected..." It was all so horribly unfair. Like you said, 10 years of perfect behaviour, and people threw him under the bus like that. Ugh.

@@thepixie504 Yeah, the only fandoms I consider myself to really be a part of are Aroha and Mydays (even then, I'm not super active or anything). I find the slightly less popular groups tend to have less crazy fans. Because there are less people in the fandom... haha :P Plus, Aroha and Mydays are just chill. I mean, every fandom has... problematic people. But not being "competition" to the other big groups means most people leave us alone, and we leave everyone else alone! Win-win! I think SHINee World is pretty chill overall. They seem to have aged well, at least :) But I think I was so late to the party that I just stayed on the sidelines. And at the end of the day, SHINee was/is way more popular than Astro and Day6, therefore the fandom is bigger (not to mention older), therefore there are bound to be more crazies :/ Fame has its pros and cons, I guess. ANYWAYS yeah I tend to stay away from fandoms. I enjoy my groups/artists as they are, without the need to mix the fandom in. It's easier that way >.

I sincerely hope Kangin has gotten help during this hiatus.... from what I've seen in life, people usually act that way when they're dealing with something they don't know how to handle.. they get overwhelmed and then turn to negative things to help them relieve some stress (myself included in that "they" btw). I'm really worried about him.. at this point, I'm almost certain he won't be joining Suju again but that doesn't even matter to me. I just want him to get the help he needs so he can live a happy, healthy life from now on.

I don't follow Suju at all but my heart was breaking for him while I was watching this video. I thought "Dang, he's clearly struggling with some inner demons. And he isn't getting the right kind of help, seeing as there have been repeated incidents." But I'm glad he seems to be doing better nowadays. I also wish him a happy, healthy life :) Like @Graycat43 said, some people just aren't cut out for that kind of life. I'm sure Jonghyun wasn't, given the letter he left behind. It can really take a toll on people.

I am also an ELF however because of personal reasons I cannot fully support him, I work with people who have suffered life changing injuries due to drunk drivers because of this I can't support him. However, I won't judge those who do because I believe people's position on it is based on their own experiences and believes. Also if he does comeback in their next cb I will still fully support it I love the rest of the members and I will continue being an ELF

The Jessica thing is SO messed up. It happened so suddenly and AFTER her contract renew. for JYJ you didn't mention how SM shadowbanned the three of them from tv to the point where the first time junsu appeared on tv was last year, after ten years, despite multiple attempts and expressing how much he wanted to appear on it again. he had to go into musicals because SM made sure the three would never be able to promote their music the normal way and that was the only way he felt he could sing on stage again. it was to a point a new law was made to outlaw this practice but it's ultimately useless and did nothing to help their situation. (apologies, i only follow junsu's activities not the other two so im less informed about them)

Honestly the Onew and Seugmin (sorry if I misspelled or even butchered his name) of SuJu ones make me SO angry 😡😡!!! They’re a misunderstanding and overreaction respectfully. For the Onew one, he was drunk. Not knowing what he was doing and totally out of it. Now do I approve of it and is it an excuse, absolutely not. Onew as a fully grown man should be able to properly handle his alcohol and that could’ve totally prevented what happened. However, he did not whatsoever mean to do what he did and it was blown way out of proportion 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️. As for the Seugmin (or whatever his name is) one, this is honestly heartbreaking. All he did was fall in love and get married and now most of his “fans” turn their backs on him? That’s not what a fan should be. They should be happy when their faves reveal something like this. I wonder what those “fans” feel now that they’ve potentially prevented a group they claim to love from promoting with all members active. Now don’t get me wrong. I love SM for the groups and music they’ve made. SHINee is one of my top bias groups and SM really know what they’re dong in regards to music. However there’s SO much they could improve on as well that honestly makes me wish SM did a complete overhaul. SM definitely has a lot of issues that seriously need to be addressed 😔😔

Onew's case wasn't even a "he was drunk and touched a woman" type of thing but it was more of an accident, since he tripped and accidentally touched her leg, there was absolutely not intent on his part, he never meant to touch her drunk or not, so it was completely blown out of proportion

This proves that SM has "contract" issues especially with their male groups. H.O.T, Shinhwa, DBSk & even Exo all filed lawsuit for their unfair contract, uneven profit distribution & even slave-driving. They're all popular & talented groups but SM wasted them all due to 💰. I always look forward to SM groups because they're all talented & has quality and yet they're also the hardest slave-drivers.

It still pisses me off to no end that people hold a grudge on Kangin when TOP was forgiven and everything was forgot about. Kangin is sober, he's apologetic and wants to return and should be able to. As for Henry he deserved better than what the ELF fandom gave to him back then, it's better now but it was too late. But ELFs support all members regardless of whether they are active or not and he's doing good on his own.

Dastiel4ever ok hello. No hatred as I am an ELF but I am also a VIP and I’m sorry but I have words. With all due respect, there is no reason to compare because both crimes are totally different. TOP smoked pot, yes. A drug that is hella illegal in Korea. && of course, He apologized for it and went back to military and served his country and has stopped and I’m positive will continue to stay sober after he comes home. Even though some have quote on quote forgiven him, a lot of people are STILL furious about it. It happened in 2017 and come 2019 people still treat it as if it was the worst thing ever. (I really hope he is forgiven enough to help out BB but that’s another topic lol) Bottom line, TOP had one run in with the law while Kangin has had about 4ish now. 2 being assault related and 2 being DUI related. I understand why people hold a grudge against him. I mean hell, I’m pissed by his actions but I still love him. Remember, this is not an attacky comment. So this issue about new members being added to an existing group has been going on ever since. Now I know why some people can't accept that WayV is a Chinese sub-unit of NCT and that Xiaojun, Hendery, YangYang are also members of the group, making them 21. Like really, there's nothing wrong in adding new members, it's actually a great thing they decided to add these people for more talents, visuals and characters to show to the fans. And really, people will do anything and everything just to drag a person down 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Jessica - the biggest/stupidest and most avoidable scandal in the history of sm. All they needed to do was say Sica was on hiatus. Even if there was fighting. Just on hiatus. 2 years 3 years 4 years whatever. Then when they all agreed they could have come back as 9.
