I am from Siliguri and in between 2015-2017 the Kanchenjungha Stadium in Siliguri played host to the Kolkata Derby because the Salt Lake stadium was under renovation due to the 2017 Fifa U17 World Cup and I must say I watched 3 of the matches live and it lived up to its name and hype.. the furore is just out of this world and the old fans are passionate as hell.. In 1975 East Bengal defeated Mohun Bagan 5-0 in the IFA Shield Final after which a MB fan committed suicide, in his suicide note he wrote in my next birth I will take revenge over East Bengal. In 1980 in a derby played at the Iconic Eden Gardens, 2 players were red carded after which a fight broke out between the two sets of supporters which resulted in 16 deaths. Known as the Darkest Day in Indian Football. The Derby of 1997 where Bhaichung scored hattrick saw a crowd of 1 Lakh 33 thousand. Still a record attendance for any sport in India. Also I will like to correct one of your points, Mohun Bagan wasn't the first Indian club to beat britishers. It was Sovabazar Club who defeated East Surrey Regiment in Trades Cup Final 1892.
