Canonically, Liu Kang is the most powerful character just using his resume. He defeated Goro who was previously undefeated for 500 years, he beat Shang Tsung, he beat Shao Khan in hand to hand combat; no magic required, the two most powerful sorcerer characters had to team up to kill him; even then, he was kicking Shang Tsung's ass until Quan Chi hit him with a cheap shot. It will be really interesting to see him as the bad guy, it's like if Superman became evil; you're basically screwed.
Sidar Erdem Kenshi is weak? He has a magical sword named Sento full of his ancestors to guide him, he can use telepathy for many reasons such as lifting other people up and crashing them down (Like he did with scorpion) Shinnok is completely unkillable and was only defeated by one person, and I missed spelt the word Raven
Spoiler alert!!!!! Well, according to the lore, Johnny and Cassie's ancestry came from an ancient Mediterranean War Cult who bred warriors for the gods -- warriors who power beyond that of mortals. That means Johnny and Cassie has powers that are enough to help them kick an Elder God's ass. Heck, the halo's like a shield that would protect you from what would've killed you, such as Shinnok's Amulet. So here's the thing. If it was a normal match between Liu Kang and Johnny Cage, Liu would win. But, if Johnny used those powers he used against Shinnok, it probably would've been a close fight.
both timelines are tragic, when you hear the conversations beetween liu kang and most other fighters, you can hear them mocking him and that he boasts about winning the past tournaments, like if that's all he has left.
It's really just the creators writing him like that, originally,Liu Kang never really bragged like that and always respected his opponents power level and skill.
***** The conversations between every fighter are they mocking each other, though the people that mainly really mock Liu Kang is the new team of good guys, because they don't know him. The other ones actually respect him, with Reptile calling him the "Mighty One". In the history they nerfed him (him losing to Jax is only second to Cassie winning against Shinnok is term of ridiculous), but he is still the strongest revenant, one of the strongest characters in the game, and is the Emperor of the Netherrealm now. In terms of conversation, Liu Kang actually has pretty badass lines, though of course it's based on what he did previosly (like every other character). Like "I don't want to fight you Liu Kang" , and he answered "I don't blame you". And the one from Kotal Khan "Prepare to face Outworld's best!" answered by "Who? Goro, Shang Tsung or Shao Khan?".
TrueUnderDawgGaming holy damn... never expected to see you here trueunderdawg jesus dude i looked up to you when i was starting this channel so you can probably understand how surreal it is to see you here
Maybe it's just me but the whole story of MKX is feels like fuck the fan's beloved characters they are now all undead evil monsters look at out new team go fawn over these cardboard cut outs with no personality.
ed boon: hey guys let's transform our iconic character who was a good and honorable monk into zombie/undead/arrogant/jin kazama/arthas prick and a motherfucking antagonist creators:a antagonist?but we have already scorpion! ed boon: oh fuck don't give a damn let him turn human again and make him a good guy creator: but who will beat the final boss?and we cannot make scorpion a good guy he is known fo- ed boon: i don't give a shit! well its okay let's make a overpowered 20 years old barbie blond girl and kick shinnok's ass! creator:but sir he is a elder god raiden take thousand years to only imprison him!liu kang was trained by master bo rai cho itself he ma- ed boon: I don't give a shit and for the the girl ending let her kill shujinko a man who have the knowlegde of every martial arts. YEAAAAAAAAH clap*clap great netherrealm studios just great liu kang is fucked for the next game its sad because at the end of mk9 its seems for me that raiden was in the wrong but its obvious that ed boon want to make liu kang's evil since deception and that doesn't make any sense because the white lotus choose a warrior with a pure heart and safe mind and soul so he may be pissed at raiden but not evil dammit!
It would actually have made sense if Scorpion became the Champion of the Elder Gods again like in Deception and managed to beat Corrupted Shinnok after Cassie defeated normal Shinnok. After he transforms into his Corrupted form, Shinnok would almost kill Cassie, but Scorpion would save her life. Using his new powers, Scorpion would defeat Corrupted Shinnok and be the main hero of Mortal Kombat for a while.
lol Liu Kang was nerfed so much story wise in MKX. MK9 I can accept him losing to someone like Raiden caliber especially while his emotions out of control. Hell I don't even mind Liu Kang going evil for once [no zombie didn't count since that wasn't his soul] if the reason was believable which from his perspective you can make an ok argument [assuming he is just angry at Raiden, but still cares for Earthrealm, but apparently not according to the writers sudden 360] for. Him being reduced to fodder tier to everyone he fought was an insult to the character. He died in the original timeline from an Ambush by Shang Tsung/Quan Chi and he held his own for awhile despite that showing how strong the guy was. No him being evil shouldn't make him considerably weaker. You don't lose all those years of training and feats because of that. Johnny [who got a BS plot armor buff] and crew had so many asspull victories in the entire story mode. Does multiple Mortal Kombat Champion even mean anything now?
This comment here!!!! I swear if makes me mad that they ruined Lius character in MKX. Thats one of the reason why I enjoy 9s story so much compared to the garbage/Cage family wank that was X. Like MK9 was tragic cause Raiden a man with all this responsibility only had visions to go on and were fucking up left and right but still wanted to make things right even if it meant letting Kahn win and to Lui who saw all his friends die due to Raidens incompetence could no longer trust his mentor anymore and finally had enough, technically Raiden nor Lui were in the wrong but Lui still died confused and angry believing his mentor was insane and Raiden lost both Loa and Lui who were like sons to him. And MKX could of made Lui like the red hood of MK where he still wanted to do good but in his own way also I hate how they made him a whiny douche and completely destroyed his character and feel Scorpion is still not getting his comeuppance for mudering Bi Hon like Boon completely made Scorpion into a Gary Sue so that Sub Zero would completely forget his need to avenge his brother.
It's understandable as to why Liu Kang would turn on Raiden, I mean everyone around him including his best friend died following his guidance. Hopefully in the next Mortal Kombat we can see him reunited with Raiden. Also it would be SUPER DOPE if we got to see the zombie Liu Kang, hopefully makes a return.
Liu Kang: Anakin Skywalker Raiden: Obi Wan Kenobi Shang Tsuang: Count Dookoo Quran Chi: Emperor Palpatine Johnny Cage: Han Solo Princess Leia: Sonya Blade
I love Liu Kang. He my favorite Mortal Kombat character. and quick question... did Zombie liu kang kill shang tsung at 8:13 through 8:19? if I'm not mistaken... shang dies if he ages prematurely and will rapidly wither and die which is why he consumes people's souls.
I really hope he becomes a good guy again in the future, it's dissapointing that earthrealm's greatest hero becomes a bad guy. Maybe him & Katana become good again even though they are not part of earthrealm anymore
Liu Kang's character evolution from being a major hero, then to an anti-hero, and eventuallly to a villan is not unique. Does Anakin Skywalker -> Darth Vader ring a bell? Hopefully, like the latter, Liu Kang can remember who he was and ultimately redeam himself.
Lui Kang hasn't lost his memories. He was made a revenant which put him on the side of Quan Chi and Shinnok. Even without being on their side, if he had been brought back with his own free will he would still want to kill Raiden as he killed him and his friends. He still has his memories and wants to get revenge on Raidens fuck ups, he just had to answer to Quan Chi. Maybe the revenant thing is clouding him a bit and making him less understanding but that doesn't take away from him wanting revenge. Now that Quan Chi is dead and Shinnok is... bodiless maybe he can think and forgive Raiden.... maybe.
Stupid question alert but how can the Great Kung Lao train Liu Kang? He would have died 500 before, with Goro being the champion. If he trained him when he was alive, wouldn't Liu Kang be old as fuck?
Ah i see, so technically the new beginning or reboot of Mortal Kombat started with MK9 then? So technically to my under standing MK9 is the New MK1 and MKX is the new MK2. if it was broken down to storyline wise.
zero11322 actually story wise MK9 spanned across an alternate version of 1 and 2 while MKX spanned alternate version of 3 and an alternate version of 4, I think MK11 will span Deadly Alliance and Deception
I hope Liu returns and kicks Raiden's ass...That guy deserves soooo much...And about the new generation?? I hope Erron Black's ending in MKX is cannon...How in the fuckin fuck can Cassie Cage beat Shinnok immediately after they almost got their assed kicked by Kotal Kahn and his guys (damn you Sub-Zero for saving their asses).Anyway, MKX story is SHIT. (And don't even think about saying these new gen brats are better than the old guys)
+Batken pre 52 52 the face of Netherrealm is scorpion, so his speed in his attacks, his abilities, his attacks are all meant to be op... and naturally, you need someone to counter that, and that's Cassie Cage
I honestly like Lu kang a lot. I don't know if I just resonate with him in a way, maybe because of the whole main character cliché. But I just ended up liking him. Hell I think he is one of the best main characters in mortal kombat. While scorpion is the poster boy for it, Lu kang is the poster boy for the mortal kombat story
Wtf... Raiden can't make up his mind if he wants to be a good guy or not. I watched the history of Scorpion before this and Raiden was responsible for the death of the new Shirai Ryu. And here, I see that Raiden resurrected Liu Kang's body and it went on a rampage. Seriously... this guy may have lighting powers, but he isn't humble like a god. If he is a god, then that is a sorry excuse for a god. He should be the god of mistakes since he is basically the spawn of every single freakin problem in the MK universe!! Anyhow, thank you so much for doing this video, I learned a lot about my second most favorite character in the MK series ~
Fantasy☯Fangs yup. And im guessing in mkX he just got tired of lui kangs constant reminded of his mistake and taunted him how theres worse things than what he got. xD
The funny thing is that if you read Raiden's ending in the original Mortal Kombat (which is non-canon btw) he was supposed to be a bad guy. It was until the movie where the developers decided to have him be a good guy and give Kano an Australian accent. I'm not too big on the lore so all this might not be right. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong I'm sure.
Huh. Well Its likely possible that raiden had a bit of a rebel against the gods. In mk9 the gods seriously did not do shit up until most of earthrealm defenders died. Anti-hero for the win :D
Y'all are crazy, they did this perfectly. They can't have them keep winning with no twists. Now he's gone bad and turned against everything. This can be start of a new era, with Liu ruling outworld and facing Raiden, or a start of redemption for Liu to come back to the light. They just set themselves up for 3 or 4 more games.
Hai History! I really like this series. Like many people, I don't have ALL the games to play through so I always come to you to for info on characters.
I didn't expect it ever playing the first mk games. But it's kinda nice. Liu kang has been getting shit on lately, it's nice to see him not give a shit anymore. I hope he destroys warriors like Cassie In the future.

Well, it's a 3-4 years late comment, but I do hope you'll find this useful. The one at 8:36 is the theme of Archer from Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SN-q5QHd6_A.html
+History behind the warrior OK I am a little confused. Wasn't the great Kung Lao defeated and killed close to 500 years ago by the time of the first mortal kombat game. If that is the case then how does Liu Kang get trained by him. Unless he is comparable age wise. I was under the impression he was a descendant of the great Kung Lao but was trained by Bo Rai Cho and Raiden among other masters.
God dude ur so good at these i hope u do all mk characters eventually. Really great work I can tell you work very hard on them. Maybe do a Raiden vid??? After all those other ones you mentioned of course. Anyway great job again!
Matthew Lynskey I know that there is 2 spellings, but I just consider American spelling to be wrong, considering they're the only ones who spell it different.
I cringe at the idea that Liu Kang lost a real fight against Jax. Liu may have been evil, but there's no way he was actually trying in that fight if Jax beat him.
Thank you very much. I had lost all interest in MK a long time ago cause of the way they killed off Liu Kang. The back & forth seem so irrelevant, specially when they make Raiden kill him off the second time around. The fact remains that the MK tournament is far more grand than Liu Kang, but honestly as a 3 year old he made that story for me. All these years later his relevance to the game is predominantly fan based so he's just another character past his death. That said I appreciate all you've done to clear up his story for me. I can actually leave the whole thing to do whatever it does being a twisted fighting game gone haywire. I thank you so much.
_I'm back here before his (basically guaranteed) reveal in MK11. You did not really go over the Shaolin Monks game. Also, LIU KANG should be a main character in the story mode this time since Raiden is the main villain, I think?!_
As the former fan of MK, the most part I hates about is Liu became a zombie that brings me chills in Mortal Kombat Deception. So far Liu Kang got the greatest finisher moves in MK history when he still alive. I loved MK 1, 2 & 3, the Deadly Alliance is the new chapter of his death. R.I.P Liu Kang
I don’t get how in MKX Liu Kang is just a simple henchman. He has defeated the likes of Shao Khan, Shang Tsung, Goro and Shinnok. But in the new timeline he gets turned into a revenant by Quan Chi. This would’ve been Netherrealms ace in the hole aside from releasing Shinnok. He should have at least been a sub-boss. Because we know in the original timeline he has defeated Shinnok so seeing him being casually be beaten up by minor characters was a bit annoying to see.
beaconcontrol inc. Only in looks. Liu Kang is John Cena of the MK universe cause he won every tournament, as a human, against some guys whose powers would evaporate humans upon impact.
Liu kang my favorite to. main reason of the few reasons why he my favorite is cuz he's heavily based off of my favorite real life martial artist Bruce Lee who is also one of my idols.
Lui Kang story is so similar to Anikan Skywalker. Both were "The chosen one". Both were suppose to work for good. They both did. In a way Anikan turning to the dark side and Lui ruling nether relm fulfilled the prophecies. Tragic Heroes. Long live The champion of Mortal Kombat!
Mannie Craft If they are going all Star Wars for Liu Kang, I'm expecting a son who will try to bring him back to light (like Luke)... if they don't go that route, it'll be interesting to see what they do with Dark Liu Kang.
My trouble with Liu Kang in the early Mortal Kombats were he was the generic hero like Ryu to Street Fighter. But when team Mortal Kombat decided to take Liu from the top spot, they made him a lot more interesting imo.
aaron jimenez That's the other thing I like about the recent Mortal Kombats. The villains aren't mindless bad guys. I loved how Quan Chi, D'Vorah and Liu Kang show concern for their allies.
stufaman indeed but liu was the old generic hero, now the generic hero is scorpion, I wish someday they give more screen to Takeda he is awesome, I think he will be the next hero of the next gen of mk
Kyo Gunner Scorpion isn't a generic hero lol he's an asshole who said "screw the other revenants, I just want Quan Chi's head" Scorpion is still an anti-hero
Dk Soulstice That's what I like about Scorpion. He's not about 'save the world from evil' or 'I will rule the world, bwa ha har'. He's a powerful bloke who's had a sh*t load of bad luck and it's made him mad.
To be honest, I preferred Liu Kang from the original time. I often hear people say he always had to win or that he didn’t have any flaws and was too “perfect” but there are arguments against that Always winning: It wasn’t that he was had to win, it was that the big bass always came after him. When he won the first tournament as stated in the video, Outworld sent a tarkatan army led by Baraka (he wasn’t mentioned) to kill all of Liu Kang’s fellow monks in MKII. Then at the beginning of MKIII when the extermination squad invaded Earthrealm, he was their main target. Earthrealm’s warriors were scattered and were deal with there own personal issues( such as Kitana freeing her mother or Sonya facing Kano). That just left Liu Kang and Kung Lao to face Shao Kahn. While I do think someone else, maybe Raiden, should have beaten Shinnok, I haven’t played MK4 in a long while so I’ll look over it at some point. Being seen as perfect: He was more naive than perfect. He grew up having a strong belief in his teachings that when he entered the tournament, he had no intentions on killing anyone, not even Goro (who killed his ancestor) or Shang Tsung. This was meant to explain why his fatality wasn’t lethal. After winning, he went back to the temple to celebrate, but found his follow monks dead. The death of those closest to him caused him to start feeling “human” as some would say. He was always taught that emotions clouded judgement and he believed that. However this act has caused him to throw that away and all he felt was anger and all he wanted was revenge. Becoming champion came with a heavy cost. He wanted revenge against Baraka (Liu Kang found out it was him when they went to Outworld), against Shang Tsung, the man he showed mercy to and is responsible for sending the army to this location and against Shao Kahn for giving the order. He had become so infuriated that he was willing to kill (explaining why he has fatalities in MKII) This is why he was later labeled a “renegade” monk. Along side Kung Lao, it was their duty to punish the ones responsible for their brethren’s demise. If anyone is interested, I could continue into his development in MKII and MKIII. All I will say is that I do NOT want the old timeline back. We have moved past that and we can only look to the future now. Although I wish they had taken Liu Kang down a different path if the idea was to get him out the way or make him “interesting” to the audience instead of turning him evil and seeing what interesting things they can do with him afterwards, I am curious in seeing where everyone else’s stories will go from here. While I do enjoy all the characters in the series (I have a fondness for unique powers in a fighting game), I will wait for the day that the champ will overcome his struggles and see the light once again to help guide the new generation into becoming protectors of Earthrealm. Thank you for reading and have a great rest of the day.
I like the new liu kang much more. I'd like to see liu kang and his revenant comrade to overthrow the elder gods in the next mk installment. I kinda hates the elder gods. plus, it's really suits for what's coming after raider warned them not to meddle with earthrealm but not the other realm. liu kang will be the ultimate monster in mk universe if this plan succeeds.
TESTA LAGUSA JR. I just want him and kitana to birth a kid already that mf would b so op n skilled screw them being evil it completely ruins they character but that's not completely a bad thing if they can redeem it otherwise it's worthless n stupid
Just don’t understand how like some of the people he beats have been fighting for hundreds of years so they should virtually be like unbeatable with that amount of experience
after he defeated goro, shang tsung AND shao kahn, the deadly alliance shouldn't have been able to kill Liu Kang. I'll never forget buying deadly alliance and seeing my favourite character killed in the opening cutscene. I was livid -_-
James Fields it was explained it was a blind side attack, Quan chi was hiding and hit him from behind, it sucks but it was a okay story the only way they could have a chance was to kill the one who could stop them.
Idk man. Liu has been my favorite always, but it's pretty cool seeing him become a big bad guy ya' know? I really wanna see him kick Cassie and the others asses. Pissed me off that Cassie was the hero of mkx. Kung Jin would've been a better option, shit, even takeda.
Oliver Cloezoff Kung Lao and Kung Jin's arcade/ladder endings (they kind of go together) are probably non-canon, but they do fit perfectly well taking place after MKX story mode as well so maybe there's hope for old Kung Lao. I think Liu may be a lost cause though whether he's returned to normal or not.
Is there any possibility that Quan Chi could be revived by Raiden or whoever to get Liu , Kitanna , sindel and kung lao back .... Maybe because they have such a huge fan base .. And it would be a huge twist and interesting story to hear that a good guy is reviving a bad guy !
