I loved this presentation. So many wonderful images along with enlightening commentary. I was especially interested in the Victorian collages because I had no idea such things existed. Thank you Sarah! BTW, Peter Beard used Crayola crayons and blood from animals that had been hunted and killed by local indigenous peoples to draw images on top of his collages.
excellent and idiosyncratic presentation of artists and methodologies working with photocollage and montage. If I add someone to the list maybe it's Penny Slinger but now I'm going to look at Sarah Hadley's work
What a lovely presentation and unique selection of artists. I was surprised not to see Romare Bearden's work, one of my favourites but I realise you cannot include everyone! Tom Chambers is one of my favorite contemporary artists so I was delighted he was included. this is a well needed video! Thank you
Thank you for sharing this History of Art. You did a Fabulous job of making this video! I feel so much better about liking Collages, assemblages, and combines. I remember visiting a gallery in my city and falling in love with the "Box Collages". I don't know who's art i viewed but they used old dime store things and put them in old boxes in all kinds of different ways. I was fascinated and have always wanted to create my own boxes. I didn't start making mine til 30-40 years later. But I started collecting and saving lil trinktes, fabrics, postcards, photos, jewelry, baubles and beads long ago. I didn't realize until your viedo today that my jeweled sugar skulls were a result of my inspiration from those boxed collages i saw so many moons ago. And that all of this has been a way for people to express themselves for such a long time. And that it has become serious to the art world. Lovely. Gracias de mi Corazon Sara Hadley.
Excellent presentation, it exceeded my expectations. I was not looking for info on the best known & obvious heavyweights of the collage genre, but more to be introduced to some of the lesser known individuals. Well done!
Thank you for making this availavble on RU-vid. It would be great to have a list of the names of the artists mentioned in this video in the description.
Nice. I too do the collages, but i don't use paint at all, only paper pigments used as colour. One of the best medium, we can create three dimensional effect in our work.
Thank you. One thing though. The moment we hit the era of Photoshop, the line between art and marketing suddenly shifts. This type of "quality" collage was hugely popular about a decade or two ago, Cannes Lions were filled with visual puns. If one asks what has changed - I would say hyperrealist 3D renders have somewhat replaced the approach.
i have been doing collages for years, is there someone you can mentions that I could ask for a critique or where I might show my work? Thank you and thank you for the great video, it has inspired me to do more and to maybe try to get my work shown.
I just take photos of my 3D Jeweled Sugar Skulls and post them on my Facebook. So many positive comments gave me the coursge to continue, its been 7 years, covid took away the last 3, so i had 4 great years of making my art and sharing on my personal profile and setting up at local events selling them.
