The History of Sauron is a dark and complex tale that spans millennia, encompassing the rise and fall of one of the most formidable beings in the history of Middle-earth. Sauron, originally known as Mairon, was a Maia of Aulë, one of the Ainur, who were powerful spirits created by Eru Ilúvatar. Mairon was a being of incredible skill and knowledge, particularly in matters of crafting and order. However, his thirst for control and his fascination with power led him down a treacherous path, one that would see him become the greatest servant of darkness in the world’s history.
In this video, we delve deep into The History of Sauron, tracing his origins from the earliest days of Arda to his eventual transformation into the Dark Lord of Mordor. Initially, Mairon was drawn to the Vala Aulë for his love of order and perfection. But as time passed, he became increasingly captivated by the ideas of control and domination. This growing obsession made him susceptible to the influence of Morgoth, the first Dark Lord, who sought to corrupt and dominate all of Middle-earth. Mairon, seduced by Morgoth’s power and vision, became his most trusted lieutenant, taking the name Sauron, which means "the Abhorred" in Elvish.
The History of Sauron is marked by his transformation from a being of light to one of the greatest evils in the history of Middle-earth. During the First Age, Sauron played a crucial role in Morgoth’s wars against the Elves and Men, taking control of the fortress of Angband and commanding legions of Orcs, Trolls, and other vile creatures. Even after Morgoth’s defeat at the end of the First Age, Sauron remained, lurking in the shadows, biding his time to rise once more.
The Second Age was a period of great significance in The History of Sauron. It was during this time that he forged the One Ring, a powerful artifact that would become central to his plans for domination. Sauron, using his cunning and deceit, managed to seduce the Elven smiths of Eregion and, under the guise of Annatar, the "Lord of Gifts," he taught them the craft of ring-making. Unbeknownst to them, Sauron secretly forged the One Ring in the fires of Mount Doom, a master ring that would allow him to control all others.
The forging of the One Ring was a turning point in The History of Sauron. With the Ring, Sauron sought to dominate the minds of all the rulers of Middle-earth, but his plan was thwarted when the Elves realized his true intentions and removed their Rings. Enraged, Sauron unleashed his armies, beginning the War of the Elves and Sauron. This war marked the beginning of his quest for ultimate power, a quest that would lead to the destruction of entire civilizations, including the downfall of Númenor, one of the greatest kingdoms of Men.
The Fall of Númenor is another critical chapter in The History of Sauron. After being captured and taken to Númenor, Sauron, through manipulation and deceit, corrupted the Númenóreans, leading them to worship Morgoth and eventually bringing about their downfall. Sauron’s influence over Númenor demonstrated his unparalleled ability to corrupt and destroy even the most powerful of empires.
Following the destruction of Númenor, Sauron returned to Middle-earth, physically diminished but still powerful. He established his dark stronghold in Mordor, building the Black Tower of Barad-dûr and amassing a vast army of Orcs, Trolls, and other foul creatures. The History of Sauron during the Third Age is defined by his relentless pursuit of the One Ring, which had been lost for thousands of years. Sauron’s influence spread across Middle-earth as he sought to regain the Ring and with it, the power to dominate all life.
The final phase of The History of Sauron is the War of the Ring, a conflict that would determine the fate of Middle-earth. Even without the One Ring, Sauron was a force to be reckoned with, capable of rallying vast armies and corrupting the hearts of Men. His presence loomed large over the Free Peoples of Middle-earth, and his influence was felt from the dark lands of Mordor to the halls of Minas Tirith.
Throughout The History of Sauron, his character is one of cunning, power, and an insatiable desire for control. He is a master of deception, able to bend even the strongest of wills to his purpose. But despite his immense power, Sauron’s greatest weakness was his overconfidence and reliance on the One Ring. This ultimately led to his downfall when the Ring was destroyed in the fires of Mount Doom, ending his reign of terror.
In this video, we explore every aspect of The History of Sauron, from his early days as Mairon, the loyal Maia, to his transformation into the Dark Lord. We examine his relationships with other key figures in Middle-earth’s history, including Morgoth, the Elves, and the Men of Númenor. We also delve into the significance of the One Ring and how it shaped Sauron’s destiny, as well as the events leading up to his final defeat in the War of the Ring.
