History of Supa Dam the 2nd largest Dam in Karnataka.

The construction of dams across river Kali is true saga of Courage,Hardship,Endurance, Challenges and Engineering skills. Unfortunately not properly documented ,reasons seems many. One of my relative worked in projects of river Kali including Supa dam. He told about encounters with wild animals, venomous snakes and elements of nature. The hardship they had to face as place where dams were built were remote and within dense evergreen forests without any basic infrastructure like road, medical facility, electricity and telephone. The spirit of creating a infrastructure to lighten lives of lakhs of people of Karnataka state helped them endure and face the hardships. The Kali river Hydroelectric projects are a milestone in the history of Karnataka (Karunadu).

Shabbash bahut achha hai

Found this video on one of my iregular travels through RU-vid. As a young engineer I went to Supa in the early stages of its construction (1976-1977) as I was employed by the UK company who supplied the concrete mixing plant for the project. It was a complete culture shock as the furthest I had traveled up to that time was the French port of Calais. The area was completeley diferent then with Supa village still inhabited and crocodiles in the river, but moast of the other wildlife had been scared off by the blasting carried out at the begining of the project. I stayed in one of the houses built by Hindustan Steel Works to the North East of the dam to accomodate the engineers involved in the construction. From looking at Google Earth they still exist I only hope that the roofs have been changed as they were coregated steel and you could not hear anything if it rained. The photo you have labeled Supa village is I beleave the same area with what was called the guest house for visiting VIPs at the top of the hill. I tried to see if there are other photos of the construction and Supa area on the internet but nothing exists. I will trawl through my own archive to see if I have anything that will scan.
