Mario Odyssey 2 already has pretty much been leaked. A 4chan post was made with a bit of info about games coming to the switch with two important ones. Saying the islands in sonic frontiers would be called the starfall islands, and saying that mario odyssey 2 was in development with a very legit looking screenshot. I think it featured mario sitting on a pole above the dinosaur from the original game?
@@TaxiCabCole the screenshot for odyssey 2 is fake, it comes from a Reddit post that was just a screenshot of the original, there’s a 50/50 chance of it being fake because of the supposed “38” image they had yet didn’t show which makes no sense considering they already leaked supposed “concepts” in the same post.
@@toniclol_ Upon further investigation, yeah that was fake. Still find it absolutely hilarious that some random fake leaker guessed the entire plot of frontiers
Pretty sure the Spirits poor blurring thing was intentional. When people were able to decipher what it said it was a major topic of discussion for a while there. It’s common for companies to leave breathing room for speculation like that. Especially here since the name didn’t reveal much outside of what the mode was called.
Nah it's actually a very common mistake that happens with blurs in post production. I worked in this field and it's the only reason I knew to check if they did it correctly. It 100% was a mistake
@@Lattie9001 I can see it go either way tbh. I mean we're talking about the man likes to tease the fanbase, sometimes even dropping very obvious hints in hindsight. Like the red eyes one before Simon and K. Rool were revealed.
@@MoonGhostDoodles those aren't hints, those are leitmotivs, there's no way anyone could see red glowing eyes and deduce that it's the handy work of galeem before being presented with the lore of the game's story. the pixelated filter did its job like it was intended, it's impossible to reverse the effect and get a clear picture of what's below it. but when any blur effect reaches the border of a video, sometimes there's artefacts, and they can get semi transparent on a thin band around the edge. the only way i was able to see anything was because they happen to make the menu zoom in and out, and the logo passes by the edge of the screen for a few frames, where some pixels are transparent. this is not ARG materials, it's a limitation of blur tools and a pretty technical one at that, only a video editor who looked into how their software works knows that stuff and in the vast majority of cases it isn't an issue, this is legit an oversight, if Sakurai wanted to leave a hint it would have been more obvious and gamey, rather than taking advantage of an obscure issue in video editing.
A lotta folks hate fake leaks, but tbh I’m so happy that fake leaks exist because they make us doubt and not care about leaks that wind up being real. If it weren’t for fake leaks, we never woulda thought that the piranha plant leak was fake, and likely woulda had that spoiled for us
I like to give anti-spoilers, like, something that /technically/ happens but you totally doubt it will, and then even though it does happen it isn't what you thought it would be. Like in Mission Impossible 3, Ethan Hunt dies. Or Harry Potter dies in the last book. It's a real hard type of 'spoiler' to pull off. But I love super-misleading people while being technically correct. It's the only kind of spoiler I ever give.
Exactly, if there is one thing 95% of leaks have in common is that they are relevant ONLY after they are confirmed to be true, after that they are remembered by that 1 guy who seems to take screenshots of everything in 4chan just in case, the other 5% is vergeben who had a name and earned credibility.
@@neevko267 I still love that at the time, Vergeben was basically all "Grinch leak is fake, Ken and Incineroar are the real reveals" (heavily paraphrased) and basically nobody believed him because everyone wanted the Grinch leak to be real
I’m sure he writes and records the script at a different time then when he edits the images into the video, stuff like that happens all the time. But that just means this leaker was in fact completely correct
He also says that the format should be day-month-year, which I agree on, but he constantly use month-day-year throughout the video. It's not like he cares about details like this.
I am so glad Sephiroth never got leaked, because that was easily the biggest “holy crap NOBODY expected that” moment in the game for me. Ridley, Banjo and Sora were all great surprises, but people requested them so much that they were mostly shocking in that they actually happened. I only ever heard Sephiroth mentioned in passing like “yeah he’d be cool”, so him actually showing up completely caught me by surprise.
The best part of Sephiroth is that we all knew Cloud was such a pain in the ass to get in that no one expected a second Final Fantasy character to ever have a chance.
Sephiroth was still more expected than Joker because the World of Light speculation at that point had Hero vs Villains motif so a lot of people wanted more villains in the game and expected more villains. Especially with pre-release reveals having a large number of villains. Dark Samus, Ridley, K. Rool, Piranha Plant being an enemy.
Little known fact: files pertaining to a ponytail were leaked before Joker came out. Joker obviously doesn’t have a ponytail and it’s not Morgana’s tail either. At the time, Kasumi (a character exclusive to the then-upcoming Persona 5 Royal) was teased. People speculated at the ponytail was a Kasumi alt for Joker and that Kasumi was meant to be a female protag for P5R
I still think she may have been planned as a female Joker at an early point, especially with (minor Royal spoiler) how similar her awakened Persona is to Arsene, how similar her outfit is to Joker and this ponytail in the Smash files (Smash has the grappling hook so they would've known of Royal content)
To be fair on the Golden Sun thing, the growth icon you showed is for the third game. The original one is closer to the healing sprout Also that's not Isaac, that's his son
That Sprout item also added fuel to the Grinch leak, in fact I’ll share a copypasta someone made up regarding the leak itself ”Grinch Leak: October 27th 2018: I totally believe the leak is real. There are things that back it up too, the Sprout item from Golden Sun, Banjo being listed on Nintendo's site and Microsoft wanting him in, Chorus Kids were leaked along with Chrom during the Smash 4 days and now we have Chrom, Geno getting a Mii Costume with the newcomer splash art and the fact that they used the Forest Maze music while showcasing that Mii Costume. If the ballot was secretly made for this game, Banjo, Shadow, Geno, Chorus Kids, and Isaac were fan favorites for sure. Ken was most likely a Capcom suggestion (and don't forget that leaked image of Ken on Morray Towers), and Mach Rider is such a Sakurai pick. Everything lines up perfectly. I find this real because Mach Rider is SUCH an out-there choice, such a SAKURAI-choice to make as a plavable character. I don't think any leaker out there even knew this character existed in such an NES classic. There's a reason Sakurai purchased that Action Figure which closely resembles Mach Rider. Everything makes sense it's just a matter of time now”
Awhile back, for some odd reason, the Smash Ultimate page briefly had 12 DLC slots instead of 6. I don't have any surviving images back when it happened, but as far as I'm aware, it was a pretty brief bug, probably leaking the 2nd Fighter's Pass by accident. I'm not aware of a single other person who did see it happen, sadly.
I'd love a video on fake leaks as well, even though they're random BS I like looking at them like this alternate universe of what people thought Smash Ultimate would be
Cloud is also truly a blessing as he remains one of the best reveals for me personally and got to try out the Final Fantasy Games starting with VI and then VII, it’s also the time where Maximillian Dood started caring about Smash and the reveals.
10:30 about the "Spirits Leak" - the main issue that was going on here was, that the whole menu was scrolled into frame, but the pixelation effect was lagging like two frames behind the scrolling animation. So, essentially when it was scrolling in you could clearly read the un-censored text "Spirits" for two frames at the edge of the screen. The pixellation effect itself was good, it was just rendered too late :D
Sometimes I forget that World of Light is even a thing in Ultimate because it left so little an impact on me compared to the Subspace Emissary. So thanks to this video for reminding me of it I guess...
I don't know for certain if it was _The_ original post, but I do recall once seeing a screenshot of the Ken post which actually had the text It just said 'ken' Genuinely the best leak as a result, comedically but respectably straight to the point
Honestly, Terry's reveal trailer is my absolute favorite Smash trailer, largely because the way it was structured felt completely in tune with everyone trying to guess which SNK character was getting in. Fate works in mysterious ways I suppose
Man this takes me back, this was FIVE YEARS AGO! FIVE! I remember listening nonstop to Grinch Leak stuff while decorating for Halloween, fully buying all of it because of that green pixel near Isabelle… or was it Little Mac? Funny enough I originally thought it was fake, THEN became convinced it was 100% real. Ever since then I’ve had a little Grinch plushie in my room, and he once had a leaky water bottle beside him wrapped in tinfoil. Memories :)
I remember people falling for the Grinch Leak. I told people it wasn't real solely because there was no Pokemon there. They laughed at me and now I laugh back People thought Master Chief, a character from a franchise with no games on Nintendo, would join Smash (especially after Vergeben said so). I told then it wouldn't happen, showing proofs it's preposterous to think he would join and they laughed again... I laughed harder in the end (Also I feel insulting that there were no New Codecs and the ones they brought back are very badly edited)
@@StarWritterSWit’s funny you say that about Master Chief considering Joker’s circumstances. Persona had no games on switch before his reveal, P5 didn’t get ported until a year later and the rest of the persona games only got released on switch recently
@@PaRappa_the_Rapper you DO KNOW PERSONA 5 comes from the PERSONA SERIES, right? It had 2 games on 3DS, one even starring Joker, announced and released before his announcement for Smash. PERSONA also comes from SHIN MEGAMI TENSEI, which was literally born on Nintendo. You are not the first to use Joker/Persona as argument without searching on Google. Do you have any other argument?
@@StarWritterSW I’m not arguing, munchkin. I just think your leaps in logic are too big. Rules of precedence have never been a good standard to go by when you’re talking about smash because it continually breaks those “rules.” Persona’s presence in Nintendo was extremely scare before joker in smash, it’s not that far of a stretch to branch off and say master chief was a potential character as well
@@PaRappa_the_Rapper who said rule? It's a pattern, very different. Also, it doesn't matter. It still had at least one game on Nintendo, making it eligible. Meanwhile, for whatever reason, people wait for Master Chief
1:47 2:11 If the first known leak was 8 days after the initial teaser then Inkling, Mario, Link, and arguably everyone else visible under the smash ball (Bowser, DK, Samus, etc) shouldn't be greyed out 12:00 17:01 I wonder if the infamous Grinch leak was actually based on real speculations/leaks like these
Agree, no leaks were shown about Inkling, Mario and Link, which were the most obvious characters in that teaser. Unless it was counted as "there was no proof that these characters would actually be playable". Because it makes perfect sense that Mario was leaked in a Smash Bros game.
I very vividly remember seeing the Sora leak about the Disney Music worker, talking about it with some friends and all of us dismissing it as just another "I work at X company" fake leak untill they revealed the date for the last Sakurai presentation and then the actual Sora reveal happening, shit was wild
hearing how Ultimate was sold before release in Mexico is both the funniest and baffling thing i've ever heard come from my country ay, mi mexico magico
I’m honestly surprised so many people fell for the Grinch leak way back when. Sakurai said that because of the already huge roster their wouldn’t be too many newcomers(not counting dlc), yet everyone believed that all those characters would be in the game. It’s really funny, looking back on it, though
“Not counting DLC” is pretty funny now, considering that thanks to that, Ultimate went from the smallest number of newcomers (less than the N64 game, by the way) to the largest number
@@StarWritterSW I mean, to be (somewhat) fair, Ultimate’s DLC surprisingly didn’t add a Pokémon this time around, despite there being another new Pokémon game released after Ultimate’s base game (and not that long after Fire Emblem: Three Houses’s release too, by the way) Anyway, the lack of new Snake codecs was probably because one of the Japanese VAs died, and apparently Japan doesn’t really like recasting people all that much after they die or something, and no new Japanese recordings means no new English recordings either
@@jomaq9233 1- Ultimate has Incineroar as New Pokemon rep. I didn't meant as DLC but base game 2- I call it bullshit. Just don't use Campbell then. There are Mei Ling, Romanenko, Meryl, Otacon, "MILLER" for crying out loud. It was a waste not to make new Codecs and more so for making a poor edit
@@StarWritterSW I was just surprised that they didn’t “update” the Pokémon roster yet again to add the one from the most recent new game at the time, Fire Emblem was a different case, because Fates was still the most recent non-remake game at the time of Ultimate’s release
I remember the Galaga Medley leak, I was watching SourceGaming's preshow discussion and right when it ended, they suddenly just went live again because the leak happened, it was honestly pretty fun
17:36 Fun Fact: The same thing happened with Super Mario Bros 3D All Stars and 3D World + Bowser’s Fury. I had a modded switch at the time and actually finished Bowser’s Fury a week before the release date. I also played a bit of Super Mario Galaxy before it officially came out 2 days later
Pretty much everyone knew that "brave" was going to be the main character from Dragon Quest because his Japanese name, 勇者 (yuusha), literally means brave.
I'm a PJiggles watch tester and I want to leak that they're releasing 11 videos in 2023. I can't go into much detail about them, but know that the number of full length videos is 11. Of course, they are on par if not higher quality than past videos. 2023 is a big year for PJiggles fans.
I was visiting someone on Mexico when I found out they were selling SSBU copies early The ones that sold the copies were GamePlanet stores, and I snatched one that day Funny thing is that stores ceased operations 13 days after Ultimate released (my friend got a copy on December 17, and the next day they announced that stores were to close permanently on that weekend, my friend said) So yeah after that Game Planet stores on Mexico were way fewer than my last visit, so my guess is that they were banned from selling Nintendo products on the country and thanks to that they ceased operations since Nintendo is the top selling videogame brand in the country, and the stores would had no earnings with the ban active Edit: Im adding this right after posting this comment, my friend sent me some screenshots from the Game Planet app, and almost every nintendo product is listed as out of stock, and the few who are not, are linked to external stores/third party sellers
While leaks make me feel kinda iffy I do think that codename leaks are really cool. It's like a puzzle that you won't fully realize until the official announcement. Especially since Nintendo does extreamly hard to understand codenames, Jack and Brave are both super difficult.
@doyouknowkeplertwentytwob yeah but since it's very vague while people knew it could be hero it wasn't fully 100% as many had multiple picks because they were all technically brave.
i couldn't stop smiling throughout this whole video, i really miss the speculation era of Ultimate and i wish they didn't end support for the game so soon, because it ended less than 3 years after the game came out. really quality video as always!
With speculation comes people throwing shіt at each other like gorillas because some person doesn't want X character the other person wants. Remember the whole "another anime swordfighter vs scrimblo bimblo" debate? Yeah me neither. Speculation really gets toxic sometimes, and we all can agree that no one wants to experience that toxicity again. But alas, eventually we will have a new Smash game and people are going to throw shіt at it because "it's not Ultimate", "without Sakurai it isn't the same", the characters who are going to be playable, and so on. So yeah, we can miss Smash reveals all we want, but they come with downsides.
@@TyFRFX The next Smash game will either be a Ultimate port with new fighters, or a reboot of the series with only a few veterans, but with all of them having a completely different moveset that stays truer to their source material. We've seen this happen with some franchises before, an example being Monster Hunter. Monster Hunter Generations and its expansion, Generations Ultimate, had basically every single monster they could feasibly bring back as a sendoff to the old MH era, since the very next game, Monster Hunter World, was a complete revamp of the formula with a more realistic approach while still staying true to old-fashioned hunting. The next game after that, Monster Hunter Rise, is basically its own thing with a lot of crazy new features that make for a faster paced gameplay, and some features brought back from GU. So I think that will happen to Smash too, since the next game will most likely not be directed by Sakurai. Nintendo will have to do something crazy to get people interested again.
@@RemiliasHusband to address your first comment, i should've specified that i don't miss the speculation era as a whole because of how toxic it would sometimes get, the whole "Steve vs Banjo" debate comes to mind, but i do miss most of it. and with your second comment, i can't imagine Ultimate getting ported with all of its characters in tact strictly because of copyright issues with some of them but i also can't imagine a reboot in my head in the way i think you're describing it. i do think Sakurai needs to move on from the series mainly for his own health and creative ventures, and it'll be interesting to see who takes his role, but it'll be a bit of a sad moment for sure.
Basically no one uses the Smash thing on the Nintendo app, but the Splatoon stuff on the app is really useful, and there’s a special gear shop on there as well which is really nice. It’s a pretty good section of the app fwiw
If no one doesn't know that the original 12 will be in a smash Title they must of been either living underneath a Rock or just never played all of Smash Brothers.
you forgot to mention jill!! joker apparently was gonna have an alt labeled jill in the code of the game, who supposedly had a ponytail, but nothing ever came out of it
I’ve heard a rumor that the first fighters pass character was meant to be a Resident Evil rep, which would explain a Jill costume. Eventually RE characters did get spirits early on. Of course I don’t believe it, in fact I’m not even sure if timeline wise that’d work.
So, Smash has a tendency to get me into franchises. Smash 4 got me to try Fire Emblem Awakening, and Ultimate got me into Metal Gear and Castlevania. Now, a funny thing is I was so convinced that Isaac from Golden Sun was gonna be in Ultimate from that little item so I ended up getting into Golden Sun. I played a whole ass JRPG for an assist trophy. I'm not upset, I really enjoyed it but I just find it hilarious that I picked up an entire game based on internet rumours.
Byleth was leaked another time actually. The original Byleth VA said they recorded lines for smash ultimate (Which with what happened I assume Byleth was added later due to the VA being in hot water and changed in 3 houses) I remember seeing this but I can check
My memory is very iffy, but iirc the old VA never said that he recorded the lines, he was just bragging that he might’ve had a chance to be in Smash. Also, I believe he was the dude who made Brawl taunts, so if he had just not fucked up, Smash would have a legit connection to that vid
@@vgggyu9vhji981 Yeah Chris Niosi got fired from his role as Byleth for this reason as well as abuse allegations. So he ended up never getting into Smash at all since Zach Aguilar took over.
I was team Nakoruru for the SNK rep. Turned out to be wrong, but I would not say that Terry was the obvious choice especially considering that other SNK characters such as Nakoruru have been more commonly seen in crossovers.
@@mehgamer467 Yet from their fighting games, Mai is their most popular character and Nakoruru has been in the most cross overs. I would not say it was "no way" going to be anyone else
My favorite leak is the Grinch Leak, not only was it a fake so I still got surprised by the proper reveal by Nintendo, but the story behind the leak is also hilarous, truly hysterical even !
You forgot one: There was a leak that showed an unfinished Joker being tested on a stage, Battlefield I think. The head and hair looked about how it should, but the clothes were all white. And no, it wasn't the alternate costume. The hair was it's usual black, and there were no red accents. I saw this leak in a video published before the Fighter Presentation was released.
After the whole “Grinch Leak” I kinda stopped following Smash Rumors/Leaks and oh boy I’m glad. Minecraft Steve is still one of the most hype reveals for me
18:21 nope, yuzu and ryujinx were terrible at the time. I remember dumping smash after it released and you could only go in training mode with mario and pikachu and then if you do ANYTHING besides jump it would crash. But i mean injecting it early probably wouldve worked
The only thing I wished was mentioned was the Grinch Leak. While it was fake, it did have Ken and Banjo-Kazzoie in it. Plus, the leak uses the same Everyone Is Here character art for Ken as the offical version (I don't renember if Banjo-Kazzoie were correct).
1:48 this part is really funny out of context because it's presented as if characters like Mario and Luigi were leaked as if there was even a possible chance they weren't gonna return to begin with
From what I remember, the sora leak didnt go unnoticed. In fact, Sora's reveal wasnt that much of a suprise when it happenned. But I did follow leaks very closely back then and Papagenos did talk about it so it might just be me.
This is why I avoid spoilers like the plague because to me it takes all the fun out of it personally. I liked every surprise and not knowing things beforehand
But was Byleth really a leak though? In every Smash game since Melee, a new FE character got added before alongside a new FR game (Roy in Melee, Ike in Brawl, Corrin in sm4sh) but there wasn't a new FE during Ultimate, so of course Byleth was going to be the final character. Believe it or not, my older brother and I was discussing what her moveset would be (and wishing it was Edelgard instead of Byleth) before HERO was announced
@@saltyralts Or at least start adding more unique and varied characters. Fire Emblem has many different fighting styles yet out of all the characters Robin using magic is the only character who focuses on unique aspects while Corrin is completely freeform. We need to see more of what makes FE unique.
@@saltyralts I think Byleth should stay though. Byleth represents the weapon triangle with use of lances, axes, and a bow alongside a sword just like how Robin represents the magic and durability system of the series.
Idea: A video on Just Dance leaks. There's multiple times Ubisoft leaked songs (e.g. the French site, before the reveal of BTS' Dynamite, revealed BTS' Dynamite; Ubisoft China leaked the full routine of If You Wanna Party)
I remember a lot of these, good times. Anyway I remember someone going over a “Leak” before the game came out that Geno would be a playable character. It was a yt video and the image they showed looked so fake. I don’t remember if the person believed it or not but I was like “This is sooo fake, surely nobody else in the comments believes this.”. The comments were literally filled with people saying they believe 😑 poor guys
Here I thought this was gonna be a video looking back on all the crazy leaks and seeing which ones were fake, which ones were on to something, and which were 100% correct. Instead this is a history of all the 100% correct leaks, well heard of or not. Honestly I only knew about a few of these.
Thankfully with all those leaks none of them managed to find me and spoil me and I cried like a mad man when Steve was revealed, I don't think there will be another smash reveal that can ever top that
