History of the Bay: Woodie 

I’m 42 yrs old from NY and always been a hip hop head but every now and then I stumble upon artist online from somewhere random I know nothing about and that was Woodie today. And now I’m streaming all his stuff. Def a legend. RIP to him.

Im from Germany, woodie catched me by lyric and Sound around 2000. I still hear his Music, and collected much of him and East Co Co. Much respect to Ryan Mitchell Wood ~ rest in heaven ~ and the whole 925.

Hung up the gloves in 2003 but i will never stop slapping Woodies music.

Hip hop is not a favorite genre of mine but Woodie's music and his approach to it caught my appreciation. His first EP, Yoc Influenced, doesn't even sound like hip-hop. His beats in that album sound like 1980's alternative music: synth pop and new wave (Depeche Mode, New Order). Much respect to him, the legacy he left behind, and all the musicians he inspired.

Woodie the man the myth his name is almost like a mythical charter everyone is always so interested in his story I swear they should make a movie about his life or a real good documentary. A lot of people are interested in woodie and not only gang bangers. And towards the end of his life he was touching really controversial subjects about the USA government and the patriot act having your rights taken from you as a us citizen. Which makes his death even more of a mystery ( rip Ryan “woodie” wood)

The cholos in my health class were playing his music on a mini speaker and talking about how he had just passed away. That’s when i kinda got introduced to his music. And then Mac Dre also passed away around that time.

it was a different time in Antioch in the late 80's & 90's. i grew up around it. i respected it. but as a man pushing 50, looking back i don't want any of my grandchildren to think what i grew up around is normal. We all moved out but we still have the roots in 925.

Woodies death is shrouded in mystery there’s a bunch of different theories about it… they say he was distressed about his gf dying but the strange part about that is 1 they say allegedly she passed in a car accident 2 she died of cancer. The bizarre thing is there was never actually a record of him even having a gf before his death so it’s all speculation… then you have other factors like there not being a funeral because his mother said there could be drama or a gang retaliation so he was allegedly cremated… then years later they made a tombstone for him at the Antioch cemetery and it was stolen… also the day after he supposedly passed away 2 gang members were seeing driving his skylark around in Chapman town area… then when his friend lennessy tried to investigate his death he ended up passing away himself you can hear shadow talk about it in the song rip woodie… and last but not least there was strong rumors going around that he was spotted driving around near Vallejo in 2009 so its very interesting but ultimately we may never know what actually happened
