I miss Disney World. First time i went was an adult and with my wife and 2 kids in 2011 and then again back to back in 2013 and 2014. Cool reading all the comments of people visiting in their childhood. Even though I couldnt visit during my childhood.....my kids did and will forever have those memories.

ArcadeDude44 Eisner had plans to turn Spaceship Earth into a roller coaster... thank god it didn't happen. And yes, I miss Epcots old pavilions as well... RIP World of Motion & Horizons
Nothing can really compare to that 1983 ride of the monorail over from the Transportation and Ticket Center and rounding that last curve to see for the very first time... that gorgeous sphere. It was night and it was purple and orange. It was truly magical, unique, exciting, futuristic, optimistic, and awe inspiring. I have always wondered what it would look like "gold". Aluminum is still fine and timeless.
From a distance Spaceship Earth looks like a golf ball, but up close it looks more like a giant silver dodgeball. They should paint it red and hold a international dodgeball tournament at the park.
i remember going to epcot in the mid 80s...i left some crayons on the seat of the rental car and they melted all over..huge mess and my dad was pissed lol..great memories.
That music is SO nostalgic for me. Makes me wish I could go back NOW! Honestly I liked the old version of Spaceship Earth better, in hindsight. The new one is cool, too, though.
I remember this ride from long ago. I remember the newspaper boy selling papers. I think that's been removed now. I remember at the end where we were taken up into space and could see satellites and a space station for a moment before we came down. I was fascinated by what I saw. It was my first and only visit to the Disney park.
Can you spot the pentagons? In order to close a sphere of hexagons (most of the shapes composing the outer shell) you need to use 12 pentagons, otherwise it won't geometrically come together. They're needed in everything from a dodecahedron (12 pentagons with no hexagons), to a soccer ball (several hexagons) to Spaceship Earth. One can be seen at 5:20 right above the center mirrored support pointing downward. No matter how large, or numerous the hexagons, it's always 12 pentagons.
They're just going to "update" it soon, like every other classic ride. They'll put a 'super cute' Thor ride in there or something. Corporate greed is ruining Disney. Like they replaced the Norwegian ride with Frozen. Really, Frozen? Bad move. That Norwegian ride was really cool.
Maelstrom needed a refurb badly and since the Frozen update, even the most staunch supporter has grown to like that ride. It brings more traffic into Norway and the animatronics are fantastic. I think you'd find a very different opinion exists amongst guests out there now that a year has passed. Theme parks need to evolve, or else they die, as Orlando Streets already noted. As far as Spaceship Earth is concerned, it will be updated once a new sponsor is found since the Siemens sponsorship is up and is showing no signs of renewal. It has always been sponsored by a corporation. First, Bell Systems, then AT&T, and most recently Siemens, in which it was updated with each partnership.
What a wonderful video ! I will always love spaceship earth, it was the first attraction at Epcot I went there twice in 2006 and 2014 the only little issues this attraction needs some basic upgrades to keep original not changing for example the sound is not clear like an older LP record sounds old like the 80's , screens on each car needs to be replaced and some scenes we can hear the mechanism moving on people but otherwise everything is so amazing !!!!
Used to work there in college this trys but doesn't do the ride justice. You got to see it first hand and the behind the scenes is even more interesting
1:52 and the first mistake. It is NOT a sphere. While it is 180 ft tall it is 164 ft wide, thus not a 100% sphere. This is due to the steelworker's requirements of the materials.
I remember back in February of "91" when my aunt, uncle and my cousin Joey went on that ride. I also remember the one of the scene in the ride there was the Renaissance Artist Leonardo Da Vinci painting the Monalisa on the ride, I notice that this video did not show that display in the Video. I do not have sound on my computer but there was a scene of Romans, what scene was that depicting?
I still always think of the simpsons when i see the one from the worlds fair (because in the show it was also from th worlds fair). But i just imagine it stuff with tons of wigs 😂
It feels so weird seeing a video uploaded in 2017 that says "please watch in HD" at the beginning. Like, of course we're going to watch in HD, you don't need to tell us lol. Reminds me of the old days of RU-vid when you had to type in an extra little thing at the end of the URL to watch in HD.
HD came to RU-vid around 2008-2009, if I recall correctly. Yeah, I just looked it up on Wikipedia, it says that 720p was first introduced in 2008, then 1080p in 2009 But yeah, before that it was all in SD
ohbobpleez You’re probably thinking of “If you had wings” which was a ride in Tomorrowland from 1972-1989, the ride was sponsored by Pan-Am and used the same omnimover system that Spaceship Earth uses.
