The ps1 boot intro is more iconic than the ps2 intro. I like both consoles equally to death but man, I really like that ps1 boot intro lol. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
Great work bringing this to life, Ian! You're upping your presentation game both in audio and visuals. And thanks for the shoutout. I honestly did very little on this one. 😂
Wow man, great job! When you said that you had a lot of Blender renders in this you weren't kidding! I like the little details like the phone dial tone panning channels when the camera sweeps across it, or the cigarette being put out on the Zelda toy's head lol. As well as other little Easter eggs you have hidden throughout. Gives the audience incentive to rewatch the video. Smart.
Thanks man! Yeah I spent probably way longer than I should have. But I really enjoyed just building the scenes and putting as many details as I could without melting my PC.
Your videos are a masterclass in how to make youtube videos in 2024. Spectacular visuals, great voice narration, detailed and entertaining content at a perfect pace. Awesome work. Thank you.
Thank you! I appreciate that. I'm very happy with how my editing has evolved over the years. I feel like I'm finally at the point where I can do presentations to the level I've always wanted.
Great video, man! Very informative and well-researched. You did a good job presenting all the information. Wish you all the best on your future endeavors. P.S. Please do a video on the PS2 whenever you have the time.
I still remember the old thumbnail before it changed and such. Either way, seeing this, considering it's been 30 years since the original Playstation 1 launch in Japan on December 3rd, 1994, it's weird to think that many of the video game consoles like these are now 30+ years old and such. Either way, along with the PS2, Gamecube, and N64 (Wii being in 5th place), The Playstation 1 and Playstation 2 are still my top favorite video game consoles of all time. Thanks for making this video.
I appreciate you stopping back by and sharing your thoughts. This was a fun video to make. I'm still pretty in love with this generation of console. It felt like the most dramatic change in terms of power and how it impacted game play. So it'll always have a special place in my memory
@@HistoricNerd Definitely. Considering The PS1 and N64 were the first two consoles I've ever played is just as special as those whom were introduced to the 3D gaming landscape. So yeah, I can totally relate man, and plus, PS1 had a HUUUGGGEE library a games that, even the N64 didn't come close to, same with the PS2. Oops, I forgot I made a comment days earlier...My mistake.
Ahh..PS1 the ultimate David vs Goliath story where, Goliath through sheer industrial and financial superiority muscles their way into an industry and wins, while everyone laughs at David. Warms the heart 😂. That said, this was definitely one of the best vids I’ve seen on ps1. Great job!!
That accurately sums up the store pretty well lol. It's also pretty funny because everyone felt that way about NEC and they totally screwed up with their chances.
@@HistoricNerdTo be fair, it's more like David and Goliath teaming up. Better development tools and less financial risk really helped third parties jump on board. Edit: Just watched it. Kudos for getting straight to the heart of the matter. This might be the best look at the economics of that time on RU-vid.
*Subscribed* You should have hundreds of thousands of subs, your videos are very well researched and the visual aids used are top notch. Keep up the amazing work :)
@@HistoricNerd Quality, not quantity. Gaming Historian doesn't load a bunch but much like your content it's always high quality and has a lot of re-watch value. :)
The main reason was that they didn't want Sony to control the sales of CD games, and the entire project went sour without confirming it to Sony. The agreement is valid for the project, but does not involve the interests of both parties...
It could be because I grew up in the 90's but even with me enjoying the NES, C64, SNES, MegaDrive, GameBoy and N64, the PlayStation 1 was legendary and left quite an impression with its CD based games. I swear, those voice clips in some games like Driver and those cutscenes in games like Tarzan which were stripped straight from the Disney movie hooked me. And let's not forget those demo discs! Endless hours of fun for little money. The backstory of this thing is just as interesting. Wouldn't it be for Nintendo being so stubborn and stupid, gaming landscape may look entirely different at least for the 4th and maybe 5th generation of game consoles.
Man, considering Playstation 1, one of the first consoles I've ever played, and one, along with the Playstation 2, being my top 2 favorite consoles of all time, it's not wonder I come back to the first two Playstation consoles because they are just classics and good at the variety of video games, compared to the PS3 - PS5's library of games and such. Happy 30th Anniversary Playstation (December 3rd, 1994 - December 3rd, 2024).
There certainly is something very Special about that first console you encounter in your life. Personally I always lean back on the NES and Genesis as game consoles that just leave me with great nostalgic feelings.
@@HistoricNerd Ahhh yeah, a lot of early millennials and late gen xers do mention the Famicom/NES and Sega Master System/Genesis as their beloved consoles they grew up with. I sadly never owned, nor my siblings or my parents ever bought consoles from 3rd and 4th generation consoles, BUT my parents did buy 2nd generation consoles like the Atari 2600 and my dad's old and not working Intellivision, with some of the games and the controllers stored in his box to this very day, even after 45 years that he's owned it since 1981/1982. But for me, it'll always be the Playstation 1 and 2 that I love the most than the N64 and Gamecube. And while gamecube and N64 did have good games on it, I feel as if PS1+PS2 had better bootup screens whereas Microsoft and Nintendo weren't even close.
Sony took over the video gaming landscape once the ps1 lead its console generation by a landslide. They took the 4th gen strageties marketing and took it to another level. Sega was never the same and nintendo survived. The other gaming consolencompanies died during the ps1 early lifespand. I wish sega postponed the saturn with a new hardware (nvidia or lockheed martin/yuzuki team) or better market strategy or took sgi, trip hawkins (3do or Panasonic M2).
Fair take there. I tend to revisit ideas i feel are important regardless of how well it adds to the narrative. Something I'm working on. Thanks for stopping by and commenting. Its always appreciated.
The most 90s thing about the 3DO has got to be that name. It was supposed to follow naturally after "audio" and "video" as a term. So delightfully stupid. 😀
Awesome and well made video. And I say im glad Nintendo was dumb enough to front stab Sony and we got a better console deal. I mean look at PS5 today awesome console and look at Switch that can barely run games at all at least not games like Baldurs gate 3 or Cyberpunk and so on. It´s clear Nintendo given up doing consoles. I just wish they gave up enugh for me to get Zelda and Mario on Steam instead.
I want to see the full history of the 32X (and its cancelled console, the "Neptune") next. These videos are amazing and interesting, to know about the creation of consoles!
I'm surprised I didn't see the Trip quotes reported by Kent about the PSX, "For a company that is so new to the industry, I would have hoped that Sony would have made more mistakes by now."
I remember the $299 announcement. Sony played a key role in cheaper console pricing. Then they took control of the industry and jacked up prices accordingly.
iam soo happy that amazing Sony never teamed up with nintendo for long to make a console. if Sony had stayed & worked with greedy nintendo then PlayStation never would have existed in the truly amazing way it is today. PlayStation would have had extremely boring weak consoles & kiddie games if they stayed with nintendo. none of these amazing games on PlayStation would never have existed at all... Long Live Sony & PlayStation of Japan! Ken Kutaragi Forever! also this is proof that pc gaming will never kill off consoles...EVER!
Dang "they were stabbed in the face" Nintendo is cold-blooded 😢 Great video Ian! Great imaging love the graphics and transitions not to mention another history channel lesson👍🏻✨️ Superb craftsmanship through and through.
I didn't even know there was a playstation 1. I thought they started with 3. This documentary changed my life. These part 13 years of my life have been a lie
So I found conflicting sources on that one. But based on what I found it leaned more towards him having a daughter over a son. The book revolutionaries at Sony stated he had a son but online sources lean towards a daughter so I wasn't 100% sure but most of the daughter references were newer more up-to-date references.
Another brilliant and well produced and researched video! I love yr 3d animations - do you do them yourself? Yr voiceovers are excellent also. Wow this is like hi production stuff. Isn't it funny how Nintendo and Sega made their enemy! it's mad! Almost as mad as how Commodore ruined Amiga. !! Thanks again for the vid! Keep 'em coming man A+++++
Thanks for watching! Yeah the 3D animations I do myself. I originally started with Aftereffects then moved to cinema 4D but learned how easy Blender is to use. so 100% of this video's 3D is done with blender. So my N64 history video started with cinema 4D but switches at the halfway point to blender as the main animation tool.
@@HistoricNerd You are so talented - wow those graphics and animations are the real deal!!! So good !! I'm off to watch more of yr vids! I only just came across yr channel - Great work! And yep I've subscribed and will tell my mates about yr channel also ;)
@@FabioGnecco the animation are all my own doing via blender. I'm kinda obsessed with it. The models however were sketch fab and purchases so I can't take credit for those :)
