Constantine only legalized Christianity. He didn't make it the official religion. That was Theodosius I.

Not officially, but he favored Christians in appointments, stopped funding pagan religions, funded churches, etc.

3:03 wasn't there one Ceasar and one August for each half of the empire (thus 2 Caesars and 2 Augusts in total)? As I understand it this was, besides lessening the amount of land one man had to rule over, for succession reasons? When the August would die, the Caesar would take over, becoming a new August and apointing a new Caesar for his heir? I may be wrong, my knowledge about the Tetrarchy is limited but saying "4 Caesars" seemed off to me... Overall a good general rundown though. Short and sweet!

skipped over a large parts also some inacuracies western rome was ruled mostly from milan (and near the end of it, Ravenna) also constantine only legalized Christianity, Theodossius I made it the state religion also you say that aurelian started the Chrisitan persecutions, he did not, that was Caludius also diocletion ramped up the persecutions, if you were going to mention them with Aurelian why not with him as well?

The christians weren't unique in Monotheism either, Aurelian had also reformed the Roman religion around Sol making it monotheistic.

The end of the Roman Empire was in 1453 not 476A.D. Theodosius I. divided the Empire into the Western and Eastern Roman not to Western and Byzantine Empire.

@@samwill7259 not necessarily true A good empire is one who expands using diplomacy and peaceful methods only war is only defensive and focuses on helping the people under the empire This has never happened but it's not impossible

sometimes aaarrrggghh, I would find just any book w/history even encyclopedias & just read them for fun ! oh sorry just bit of information : Diocletian divided the empire there where 4 "rulers" each had a region. one Senior Emperor (one for West the other for East) an Augustus; & then (also one east one west) Junior Emperors Caesars : Rome & Byzantium the capitals, the Caesars ruled Africa +. this was supposed to solve the problem of the Imperial succession, which it didn't so the 2 seniors ruled for 10 years & then abdicated w/the 2 Caesars becoming the Augustus & choosing two new Caesars... quickly broke down Thanx🙏🙂🖖V3

They were They considered themselves romans (more than the hre can say) they were also literally the eastern portion of the empire and they even had legions for decades after the fall of the west (look up the last legion)

@@USSEnterprise6126 Aye, it's just funny how many want the title, call themselves so, even while Eastern Rome still exists. They actually conquered Rome back later. Watched an excellent documentary series on it from Epic History TV. Belisarius, want to get my hands on the actual book though. Is it the bloodline, the faith, the territorial expansion, the city itself? What makes the empire the Empire. Scary thought

@@troydodson9641 HRE not holy roman or an empire (yet many people say it's a true successor I say no) Also fought with the pop a lot and I mean to the point of sacking rome because pope Russia has the empire part but that is about it Closest I can call to being rome 3 is napoleon's france Empire ✅️ Holds vast majority of former roman lands (ether directly or with puppets) ✅️

@@USSEnterprise6126 Pope doesn't really have the authority to name the next Roman Empire, as it wasn't even Christian for the creation. Russia has little to do with it other than Orthodox ties. Ottoman Empire, while impressive, is its own thing, and I think that is the same point I have for Napoleon. It hurts to say, but even a Roman lover like me thinks it fell when the East passed by antiquity. Professional troops with a feduel esc system, power broken up a dozen which ways, even the attitude changed. Keep in mind, I'm loving every second of the conversation
