The best thing about Samoyed is that when you help them blow their coat/deshed them, you can knit at least one other Samoyed from the hair produced.

I have an idea for a fantasy story and in this world there are "wood elves" (working title) who have huge white dogs as their only domesticated animals. They use them not only to carry/drag loads, but also to source fibers for textiles from. Good to know my idea has an actual real life example. ^ ^

I have a Keeshond, the smaller, grayer, even poofier version of a Samoyed. They were bred specifically to keep people company on barges in the Netherlands. He looks like a storm cloud with a fox face, has a single braincell that is actually a marshmallow, leaves super soft fur tumbleweeds all over my house, and tries to befriend bees. I love him ♥️

Our parents weren't rich so we rarely took vacations but 1 summer we spent a week in a musty coastal beach motel. Mom was grumpier than usual for no reason, mourning her own lost childhood but Linda, the owner of Linda's Lowtide, owned the most resplendant, silky, friendly and pillowy dog I'd ever encountered. I spent the next few days delightedly romping with the glowing, panting puffball on the grey shore looking for sand dollars & starfish. I burst into tears the day we were bundled back into the station wagon to return home and vowed to one day own a Samoyed.

@Andromedathegalaxynextdoor Год назад
Okay, right? I'm so tired of people getting dogs because "they're so cute" and not being willing to put in the effort it takes to train them properly. Especially when it comes to working dog breeds (which are just about all of them, btw). These animals have generations of worker instinct that doesn't just go away because this particular dog wasn't raised that way. You have to give them proper training based on their breed so they have an outlet for that energy, or they start having nervous issues and acting out. It's like there's something they KNOW they're supposed to be doing, and it stresses them out when it doesn't happen.

Years ago I had a friend that had a Samoyed named Baby. Wonderful dog, full of love, cuddles and a great disposition. One day Baby ran away, and could not be found around the neighbgorhood. My friend went to the pound to see if Baby was there, and she was so pleased to see her beloved fluffy cloud bouncing with happiness to see her. About a day later my friend noticed that Baby didn't act the way he usually did, and appeared not to remember the house, acting as though he'd never been there before. She determined that Baby wasn't Baby. But of course she loved this dog (how could you not!), so she kept him. She called him Minetoo. I thought that was a cute name. And yes, Baby did have a collar with a tag, so whoever found him must have adopted him. I think my friend saved another cloud dog from being caged or worse.

This was great. Please do more. I would like it if you mentioned any down sides to any of the breeds. I think too many people get a dog because it's "cute" or "kick ass" and then abandon them because of the extra care they may/will need. It thought I wanted an Irish wolf hound, and then I learned about their short life span and the joint problems that they may have...
@suchnothing
@suchnothing Год назад
Oooooh he should do a video about Irish wolf hounds! Their history is pretty cool. All giant breeds have short life spans, unfortunately. Their size causes so many health issues. Otherwise, Irish wolf hounds are amazing dogs. I understand them to be calm, gentle family dogs. If you want a dog with a long life span, nothing beats a chihuahua! They can live to 20 or even longer. It's hard to find one that hasn't been inbred like crazy in puppy mills though 😥

And caution on dogs that need lots and lots of ongoing training and management. .. a neighbor allowed her rescue Tibetan mastiff to get out and it attacked my 10-yr old niece in her own garage. My niece has grown up with a lab - she wasn't provoking the dog. The attack was instant. Fortunately her aunt and uncle were nearby, and able to distract and contain the dog to disrupt the attack. Niece is fine - just stitches, very luckily.... But people need to understand the amount of work and care required to keep certain dog breeds.

For those people who perceive this humorous video as historical: The Samoyed Laika, a registered breed, is not actually a breed. These are white Nenets reindeer Laikas, which are still not a recognized breed. The Nenets, like their shepherd Laikas, have not died out and to this day they graze their deer with the help of their fluffy multi-colored Laikas, they also hunt with them. One of the most common theories about the name Samoyed originates from the Russian words Themselves and Rides, in the snow a sleigh pulled by white Samoyeds looks like they are moving by themselves (This word has nothing to do with cannibalism historically, there are no prerequisites to assert that the Nenets were cannibals.). And finally, the Canadian Eskimos are the descendants of Asian tribes who came to North America from Asia, They can't by any means be the first people to use sled dogs, without sled dogs they simply wouldn't have made it to North America. North American sled dogs, modern North American wolves, bears, and Eskimos all hail from Siberia and the far east of Russia. The ancestors of all of them live there in Russia to this day.

I think it's very important to know your dog's breed history, or at least their group. I learned very quickly than owning a terrier type is very different to owning a herding type. Levels of independence, drive, abilities, size all vary across the groups and leaning your training towards your dog's natural instincts for that breed group will leave you both much happier

My parents had a mixed sheppard and a mixed terrier and they didn´t get along, like ever. At a point they had to keep them appart because the terrier attaked the sheppard and they almost killed each other. The trainer they had, told them that Terriers would never let go their prey, even if it killed them, so they would never be able to get along after that. It was sad because we loved them both, but they could never figure out how to get them together without them hating each other.

So enjoyed this. Had not realised the full extent of Scott's stubborn and lethal stupidity. Good British motto - We always know better than the locals. Reminded me of the top drawer British cavalry in 19th century Sudan who presumed their equestrian skills perfectly equiped them to manage camels. A couple of days of vicious kicks from unexpected directions, long range vile vomiting and outright refusal to move soon had the toffs humiliated - utterly.

My Grandparents raised Sammies in the 1960s and 1970s. The female was trained to keep the litte kids in the yard. Sadly I was born just after their last Samoyed crossed the rainbow Bridge.

A friend of mine has 3 Samoyeds. All are rescues - two of them from the Chinese Dog Meat Festival. He lives in Oregon and his property abuts a National Forest. He posts a lot of photos of walking the dogs in the woods. (A couple of years ago he published a calendar of the photos and gave the profit to the dog rescue.) The antics of these dogs are endlessly entertaining.

You’ve found a great original niche. Comedy combined with dogs, bit of education here and there and you’ve hit the trifecta. I hope you enjoy creating as much we enjoy watching. In the spirit of Star Trek, ‘May you create long and prosper ‘. Keep it up mate. Love your work.

love it!! Loved the role play cuts and great info. Did you know there's an extinct dog breed that was bred for fiber? Salish Wool Dogs were kept on an island to keep crossbreeding from messing up the dog wool! there are still a few blankets made from their fur and they are my absolute top candidate for the Next Extinct Thing to Clone.

I am owned by an elderly chihuahua. He bit me in a park for no reason, then convinced me to take him home from the shelter. 10 years later, he still will not acknowledge me if I speak English to him, no, it must be Spanish. He is the most loving, loyal and STUBBORN dog I've ever met. Love him. And I love your dogs series!!!!!

One of the reasons samoyeds are so good with children and have such a fluffy coat was so they could serve as daycare providers and sleep with them and the family to provide warmth. They were also a source of fiber for weaving clothes, ropes, etc. They were bred to be white to blend with the environment. They're one of the few white dog breeds not plagued with deafness, and the samoyed people applied selective breeding on a level that's still not entirely understood, other than they took it to the level of scientific art form. Sad side note to the expedition to the north pole: they ate the dogs.

Toss in a good word for Chow Chows. They are an amazing breed, and the coat has the same characteristics as those you noted in the Samoyed, plus, the coats come in other colors. They are much more fun than you show in portraying them. LOVE your videos!

I had 2 Samoyeds growing up, Sammy and Lady Shane Shelly "Shelly" for short. I LOVED those dogs and they loved me back. Shelly would always sleep on my bed and wait for me to get home at night.She also thought she was a lap dog, would jump onto my lap, lean back and put her muzzle on my shoulder. Sammy would jump our fence, catch a squirrel, half eat it, vomit it up, and leave it in the neighbors yard before jumping back over the fence. We only knew about it because the neighbor told us and we saw him do it once. I loved hearing all about their history!!❤

Ernestt Shakelon was there before everyone else. He was there in 1908. He went with 4 men only Shakelton survived by walking across Antarctica. I read his book on his amazing trials. Great reading. They recently found his ship where it was crushed by ice and when the passage opened up from the melting snow it sank.

This is amazing! Just a request/suggestion - you should do one on the Tosa Inu!! Such an amazing dog! I have worked in veterinary medicine for the last 30 years and have only met one in my life, a big boy named Musashi, named after Miyamoto Musashi - the Japanese swordsman. Mushashi went from regal to goofy as hell in seconds, one of my most memorable patients. Lots of fun history with the breed as well. I really enjoy your stuff and your impressions are spot on! Keep it up, you're a smile and a bright spot in my day and many of those in the veterinary industry.
