Trance had a weird sort of "lightness" to it in 1996, as in it didn't sound as serious as it would later. The pizzicato patch everyone was using post-Insomnia might have something to do with that, and the impact that Balearic Beat had in the mainstream of trance music seems to be another. God, I can't imagine what taking an E tablet in Ibiza must have been like in 1996, before the $50 cover, overpriced drinks, and douchebag superstar DJs who basically exist to promote their label's music. I bet it felt like the most spiritually important moment of people's lives, wrapped in the cloth of chemically-induced love and empathy, upbeat and happy trance music, and beautiful Mediterranean sunsets. If I ever get a time machine, 1996 Ibiza would be stop #1 LOL.
