Othais and Mae delve into the story of this WWI classic. Complete with history, function, and live fire demonstration.
C&Rsenal presents its WWI Primer series; covering the firearms of this historic conflict one at a time in honor of the centennial anniversary. Join us every other Tuesday!
Mauser Model 1914 "Pocket Pistol"
Cartridge: .32 ACP
Capacity: 8 rnds
Length: 6.1”
weight: 1.3 lbs
This handgun was mostly a product of Josef Nickl and would begin the concept of a "pistol family" in the commercial market. Sadly it never realized its dream of 9mm glory, but still enjoys a major place in firearms history.

That makes sense. In the heat of battle or with slippery wet hands, just inserting a fresh magazine and having the slide go forward chambering a Cartridge is fantastic.

my wife happened to look over my shoulder just as the end shot of Mae wearing the "guns" shirt came on. I actually had to explain that I wasn't watching "gun porn" and her also being a fan of the show replay it to prove it was Mae, (who my wife and I admire greatly). Great series guys, keep it up! 👍

I have a Mauser model 14 chambered in .32 ACP / 7.62 as part of an estate. After field stripping and cleaning, I shot a few rounds through it and agree with Mae's assessment. It is small but not tiny and comes to hand and point comfortably. The recoil is very manageable making it very easy to return to point for follow up shots. Thanks for more history and information on this sweet little pistol.

Just picked up one of these two weeks ago. Have not taken it to the range just yet. Did break it down and cleaned it, very simple. did not find the magazine lock to be much on an issue. Can't wait to get it out and take it through its paces. Once again a great review.
@ar6985
@ar6985 9 лет назад
Congratulations on another well produced documentary! The 1910 pattern Mausers are truly classic pistols.One minor criticism- the slide does close without inserting the magazine. You just have to pull the slide back and release it before it begins it's forward travel. Snap it back forcefully and release- the slide should close. It can be a bit tricky at first.
@Candrsenal
@Candrsenal 9 лет назад
+ar6985 I believe people are managing this but definitely is not working on our example. if I think about it the way it would work for some is if the recoil spring is driving faster than the combo ejector spring can reset. Perhaps ours has a stiff combo spring and/or weaker recoil spring..

I'm going back into these older vids that I haven't seen on nights when I just feel crappy and I regret that I didn't discover you Guys until I went though a breakup back in June and needed longer vids than Forgotten Weapons to kinda focus on something other than how I felt. This all started with a gift. A 1910/1914 .25 ACP, from a friend. I've never even fired it, but am fascinated with the design. Purchased a .32 ACP on Gunbroker, am waiting delivery to FFL. I intend to shoot this one, and am going to school on it with videos such as this one. Great video, thumbs up, and subscribed. BTW, Mae is awesome. Not just a cute chick with a gun. Nice nod to Forgotten Weapons, Ian's string of videos a few months ago focusing on early .45 semi-automatics was a really interesting series. Early automatic designs are already fascinating, but early semi-automatic weapons trying to handle a large load like .45 ACP just gets even weirder.

How come you aren't monetizing? YT will promote your videos much more if they are monetized-- since they get a chunk of the earnings. Anyway, that is my tip for the day. I really enjoyed your video.
@Candrsenal
@Candrsenal 9 лет назад
+TAOFLEDERMAUS Do they promote you more? We just wanted to save everyone the ads until we had some more growth.
@taofledermaus
@taofledermaus 9 лет назад
C&Rsenal Almost everyone runs ads, and viewers should understand that in order to produce content, it takes money. RU-vid WILL promote your videos more if you monetize. I heard about you from a posting at the Firearms Blog. I never saw your videos featured or suggested to me on RU-vid. For an upcoming channel, you definitely are doing everything right otherwise. Your production quality is amazing. Just the cutaway animations set you apart from other YT channels. One suggestion that will help is to work with channels similar to yours like Forgotten Weapons. If you could do an animation for him, THEN he could use that to promote your channel with a clickable annotation to your channel. (just having links in the description don't work very well) I've never talked with the guy that runs that channel though, so I don't know if he is the competitive sort or understands that cross-promotion actually compliments everyone. As a VIEWER, I want to see you succeed because I want to see more of your content. As a content creator, I will try to think of any way to help promote you.

***** Thanks for the input! We've actually been working with The Great War on their WWI project and it's brought a lot of attention from not the usual gun crowd.
@taofledermaus
@taofledermaus 9 лет назад
That is a good strategy. The usual gun crowd is very limited. Embracing a world-wide audience with the history, with the touch of "Ken Burns" styling (IMHO) and intelligent commentary will pay off for you.

+C&Rsenal I'm pretty sure Ian from forgotten weapons would be happy to do a cross promotion with Y'all. Given that there isn't that much of a difference, you could probably wrap them into the same episode.

The disassembly from field strip to complete: Great, good, uh-huh, oh..kay enough with the mag, okay not to bad, now the trigger. Nice, the side plate comes off easy. No over tightened soft screw heads to mess up-WHAT, no, NO! so many small parts...wher-wheres my Tokarev?

This type of Mauser 1914 cal .25 ACP and .32 were among the best seller small guns in Siam during Pre WW-II. A lots of upper class women in Siam brought them in the steam ship or Ocean Liner during the trip to Europe. I brought two of them in excellent shape back in 1970 for $70.00. I hide it in my safety deposit box in Massachusetts when I was foced to leave my home in 1993.

You don't have the specs written for the 25cal 4:00 and the 32 at 7:00 not sure if intentionally did that or just forgot. Maybe they didn't have specs for the older cartridges. Anyway, just thought i would mention it
@chrismc410

Why they didn't make it a .380 is beyond me. All they would need to do is change the barrel. The same slide, magazine, internal parts, frame would work. Colt, FN, Savage, Walther, Beretta and others did just that with some of their existing .32 ACP pistols and lost one round capacity wise

Thanks for the video. I inherited a 1914 model. Unfortunately, the magazine AND the barrel pin are missing. Do you know where I could buy a barrel pin AND reliable magazine ? You do good work !

I actually own an original 1914 in the 33000 serial range. It was a WWII Vets war trophy and i got for decent price in a shop in NC and when i first handled and fired my first thought was "I definitely aint selling this"

If you happen to have the DVD of 'Command Decision', one of the Special Features is a vintage short featuring the M-1914 as the war souvenir used to make 'Souvenirs of Death'. You can probably from the description guess the deal: kid gets his hands on dad's bring-back, accidentally shoots the beloved family dog, dad pawns it, crook gets his hands on it, etc. The point being that all these things ought to be turned in to the cops. Yeah, right. 😎

My Mauser HSC has the same sort of operation where you have to insert a mag to release the slide. It's really the only downside to it, other then the fact that it's in .32 acp.

Mae, how the hell do you one hand the magazine release? I'm 6' 3" and I have to change my grip on the gun so I can generate enought force to depress the button and pull the mag out.

Have one that has an issue where it will Occasionally NOT drop the Firing Pin when pulling the Trigger. Not sure what is gong on, I'm thinking a linkage somewhere is worn to where it sometimes scissors instead of linking cleanly. Interested to know if anyone else has had this issue...

I don't find it at all irksome to empty the clip and re-insert it to reset the slide in those instances where I want to leave the chamber empty. Once forward, I reload and re-insert the full clip. I love my 1914; had it many years.

If I may offer a slight constructive criticism.... Lighting really needs to be better for things such as disassembly etc. The orange background really doesn't lend itself well a well-lit set when it comes to blackened pieces of metal. Love the channel though! Keep up the amazing work!!!!
