We have teamed up with Pete Valinski from Entoyment and Military Historian Toby Mcleod to bring you the first in what we hope will be interesting insights into topics about a particular theme in military history. What better way to start with an overview into the Bavarian Army during the Napoleonic Wars and how we as wargamers might go about creating an army with them on the wargames table.
The three books on the table were.
Hanau & Montmirail - The Guard Fought and Won
With Eagles to Glory - Napoleon and his German allies in the 1809 campaign
Opsprey Napoleons German Allies (4) Bavaria
We hope you enjoy the video and please don't forget to Like, Share and Subscribe as it helps the channel. Thank you.

Thank you so much for this video! I spent a long time trying to figure out if the Bavarians were with or against Napoleon, and you guys cleared it up really nicely for me- it was a bit of both! Much appreciated.

This was really fantastic. But Bavaria remained a kingdom until November the 8th 1918 and was never fully integrated into the German Empire. It had it's own postal service, railway system and even it's diplomatic service and it's own army. But I understand, why you said, it ended in 1871.

Great videocast! Way back in 1973, I did the 6th Corps (Bavarians) for 1812, in 15mm Minifigs, then sold them off out of frustration due to Empire we were playing. Took me years to even look back at Napoleonics. Ordered the Victrix on the day they were released to start again but in 28mm giants! (6 and 10mm my primary choices). The podcast and your guest were quite interesting and the main points nicely covered. Was waiting for him to show /talk about the reference books on the table- especially the hardback on his right. I look forward to more of your videocasts! Thanks! (Hope the Polly did not go to waste!)

Hi Tom, thank you for watching and sharing your excellent experience building and playing the Bavarians. I remember playing Empire 4 I think it was back in the late 90s. Putting the talk together, Toby looked up quite a few references. But, as for the books on the table, my bad, I forgot to add them to the video. These books were aimed at wargamers and they were, Hanau & Montmirail - The Guard Fought and Won With Eagles to Glory - Napoleon and his German allies in the 1809 campaign (this is the book I think you were referring to). Opsprey Napoleons German Allies (4) Bavaria Hope that helps Tom

Nice chat to go with the Victrix packets to come out . I kept an eye on that Stein Mug for 30 minutes expecting to see it land on the floor due to gravity and a stray hand wave

Excellent video! I was listening while working on my own Bavarians in 1:72 from HaT. I'm too slow at painting to do a division, let alone the full corps, so I've been shooting for a few infantry battalions (24 figures each) and a cavalry regiment (12 figures). Should be enough to supplement the two French brigades I've already completed. Cheers from across the pond!

Thank you for your support watching and listening while you were doing your hobby. We enjoyed doing this brief introduction on this subject in which we think has a lot to offer. The HaT 1/72 miniatures are nice and a good scale to build up armies with and your project sounds great. 😁👍

This was a fantastic discussion, some interesting points and details on organization of the Bavarians, sold my Foundry Bavarians a few years ago, may have to re-invest... damn you Stonewall... Hey Lee noticed on the video you had a stone wall as your back drop was that intentional?? ;o)

Hi Nathan, thanks for watching mate. The Foundry Bavarians are very nice, I can remember a friend used to have a force of those. It looks like your plastic mountain is going to grow again 😂😂. The stone wall background was just for you and Jason 😂😂.

Nuremberg wasn’t a part of Bavaria in 1792, back then it was still a Free Imperial City. It became part of Bavaria in 1806.

Great talk. But missed that the Bavarian Corps fought hard in 1814 during the Invasion of France. Perry Brothers make Bavarian Landwehr too. I'm just finishing my 28mm Bavarian army, using a mix of Front Rank, Hät (28mm) and Perry.

Thanks for watching James and pleased you liked this first episode. Yes good point, they did do a lot of fighting still in 1814, like we said in the beginning, we tried to give just an overview. Good shout for Front Rank, I’d completely forgot they done them and Perry figures are always nice. I think you will have a nice looking army on the table when it’s finished. 😁👍

Currently painting Bavarians for Franco-Prussian War, but interesting to find out the historical background up until 1871. Trouble is, makes me consider a Bavarian Naps army now...

If you are wondering about not having space to use proper formations then use 6/10/15mm figures. Using 28mm figures for Napoleonics for anything bigger than a skirmish or Brigade action is just daft.

Hi Iain, thanks for watching. I agree the smaller scales certainly can give the right look for the period, but I’ve played in some very large Napoleonic and ACW games at the Wargames Holiday Centre over the years. There is no wrong answer as it’s personal choice, which is what’s our hobby great 😁

Unless you have a very big table! Then 28mm are fine.

So who spilt the drink across the table! So how do we get a black powder Bavarian army from Pete then? Toby did not answer the question when Pete asked.
@BattleBunkerHQ
@BattleBunkerHQ 2 года назад
😂😂 No, not at all, no drink was spilt in the making of the video 😂😂 it’s an old table that is used in there D&D games. Their is no specific ready made miniature force as of yet in 28mm for this. We were just giving some general information for us wargamers to think about if we build an army. Shame I know, I’ve always liked the Bavarians, I expect I’ll mix as Pete said, Perry’s in with Victrix.
