it doesn't matter if it's for 8 years, or a lifetime, or just 1 hour... slavery is slavery. and what we need to do is to condemn it and fight against all forms of it, that's all... i just don't understand when people say "my ancestors did not do it", or "my ancestors did not do it as bad as (...) did"... everyone did it... and let's face it. it was and still is a crime against humanity in its all forms...

slavery is slavery indeed. But lets not forget, the ottomans did not just "take" these people violently from their homes, their parents, families literally sold them. They sold them to other rich black people as well, just in case you didn't know.

See Ahmet Ali Çelikten. When there were zoo of black people, when there were signs" No dogs/ No black", when there were racism and murder, there was a blackman and the Turks, flying in the air. Proud of him and the Ottomans. The problem is, 'my ancestors' didnt do any of these terrible things. Today, we still dont act like western world. There are black people who love us, so we do. We dont care about colour. And of course, slavery was and always ll be bad.

It’s important to add that our black brothers and sister who who brought out as slaves were treated well and not mistreated and shouldn’t be compared to the stories we knew and hear about western slavery. One of the first Air Force pilots in the Ottoman military was also a black brother.

Ofc there was slavery in Ottoman as well but Ottoman slavery was quite different as it was time limited (It was getting even shorter if they became Muslims) and their children were never ever considered as slaves rather full citizens of Ottoman!! And perhaps the biggest difference was vast majority of Ottoman slaves were white europeans who were captured soldiers or european children taken from their families if they fail to pay their tax which is why it was called ''blood tax'' by many Ottoman Christians. And even those children weren't becoming slaves instantly rather they were taking several years of education while depending on their success they were joining Janissary corps or even getting more education and becoming Pashas and Viziers that there are even several Grand Viziers in Ottoman history who were actually children forcefully taken!! But if they were unsuccessful on their education they were sold as slaves so ofc in today's conditions these are still terrible and extremely inhuman but during that age's conditions Ottoman actually had one of the most humane slavery on Earth and it wasn't about racism, skin colour etc at all rather just providing some extra manpower for the empire!! Which is also why Ottoman always accepted African volunteers into it's army and immigrants that quite a large portion of today's Afro-Turks came this way..

It didnt last long and there are some afroturks who had accomplished some good things like ahmet ali çelikten is one of the first black pilots in the whole world, there’s esmeray who was an important and beautiful afroturk singer and there’s kuzgun acar who was a black sculptor, an artist in turkey and maybr more examples like this that I don’t know so the slavery thing is not like other countries and black people were free in our culture for soooooo long time before other countries. And we love you guys I like your channel so much by the way it feeks good to see brothers from different cultures (which I thing not that different between turkey and nigeria) try to understand turkish culture and history and music and humor keep going. Sorry, but you are dishonest when you say, “Europeans do not say their children you do not mary a black person, but turks do” look at that people none of them have pure black background they even their GRAND GRAND parents married a Turkish person(LEGAL spouses with proper weddings) and they still marry, is it case for europeans or americans? When they say to their daughters do not marry a foreign men they also mean pure white Norwegian men. Not blacks in particular. So if a parent ok with his daughter marry a Norwegian men and then he/she is ok with her to marry a black person either. And no 8 years are not a lot when it is compared to other parts of the world. Of course i am glad black slavery over, i would not wish anyone to be in that situation even for a few hours but you cannot judge things from today’s values. Ah and Ottomans enslaved way more white Europeans than Blacks. And Slave ownership was very expensive and they mostly there for domestic work rather than plantations, thats way it is not as widespread. But there is one thing rich people took white slaves as verry young to marry their son when she grow up, it was not case for africans slave girls, we can talk about discrimination here, but regular Turks seemed to not have problem marrying a black girl/men.

I completely agree with you! But the thing is that i think these three guys are really nice, on the other hand they have an interesting approach to slavery. I have a looot of Nigerians friends and i can assure you that from every of them the reaction towards slavery was the same. They all somehow came to the conclusion that it was some sort of history that europe slaved them and they seemed to be fine with the european white people having done that altough they really did not just slaved them, they did the most phychoptahic things to them. When i used to mention the ottoman empire was not like the europeans, they were some sort of mad at me by mentioning it, which i found very strange. There are 4- 5 main reasons for their mindset in my opinion. First, is that they see themselves superior over the turkish people and cant stand that the ottomans(muslim) slaved some african parts. Secondly, their is a huge antithinking wide spread in Nigeria, they hate the Housas ( muslim tribe) and another thing i think is that they prefer to be when they want with a european white person rather than with a turkish person. They want to be with people they look up to and unfortunetly these people are mainly german french british, so basically all other countries who really hurt and slaved them for long time and still have presens in their countries. Again this is not an insult! I think what happened with them in the past due to european slavery marked their pychology a lot. I think its just more time needed for healing and reconnection to their lost roots, doesnt matter if they were born in africa or another continent. The Continent Africa suffered extremely!

I think they try so hard to explain the slavery system in Ottoman in detail is that they don't want it to confused with the western system of slavery. The slavery in Ottoman Empire was not restricted to African people. Wherever Ottoman Empire invaded they bought/captures slaves back as well as brought gifted people (soldiers, technicians, artists etc). once a country was invaded was considered a part of the empire and they were given free access to anywhere. They could move freely. Also, there was no law (like it was in the USA etc) to avoid doing certain things (attending schools marrying who you love, etc..). And according to the law, the terms were slavery was defined strictly, like 8 years etc.. Does it mean it was fair,? NO. These people just want to reclaim their culture and want to be recognized for it. But they don't want it to be perceived as the same as long term exploitation of a race because they were deemed inferior. Although, I would say that turkey is not free from discrimination whatsoever. We do not learn about the richness of our cultural heritage enough as well as injustices. I am sure there are many Turkish people who had no idea about the slavery in Ottoman empire and hoe long it lasted.
