My Dad was a radioman on PB2y-3r in World War II. in VR-2 He flew on those hauling supplies all over the Pacific He also flew on all of the Mars planes except one. i have his log book and is interesting to see where all he flewand what planes. We counted about 10 different aircraft types and over 80 different planes of those types. I enjoyed the video and seeing where my Dad would have sat in the plane. He was in his late teens and early 20s at the time.
Jesus Christ. Finally I see a video about the PB2Y and I think "wow, finally I can see what the interior of a PB2Y looks like, how it compares with a Sunderland, how the compartments are arranged, where the ladders and hatches are, awesome!" I've been wanting to find this out for a couple years, but unfortunately cutaways, photos, or even model interiors of the PB2Y are impossible to find online. it's just too obscure. So I was very excited to see this video. Only to find you show the cockpit area an a corner of the VIP lounge, and a bad still shot of the galley compartment. Nothing else at all. Why not just take a camera and walk through the plane so people can actually see what's in there? Hell, he starts talking about the engineer's station and says "the only thing unusual about this station is its location"...without giving the audience the slightest hint of where it IS. All you can see is the console. It could be in the wing box, or back in the rear fuselage, we cannot see the surroundings to even make a guess. You finally realise what he's talking about when he finishes and the camera pans over to the radio operator, and you realize he is just in the rear of the cockpit compartment still. It's better than NO glimpses of a PB2Y interior, but extremely frustrating. Could have been much, much better.
PB2Y took the US secutary of the navy Frank Knox to Jamaica wear he toured the US naval air station Little Goat Island back in 1942 I believe. just live a few mile away.
