70, Girls, 70 was a musical comedy adapted from the 1958 play Breath of Spring, which was adapted to the film Make Mine Mink. The show was a strange one, with the characters frequently breaking the fourth wall to break into song and sing numbers unrelated to the plot. The essential plot was about a group of old folks who commit robberies together.
While the Kander and Ebb score was delightfully bright and bubbly, the script (written by Ebb, Joe Masteroff, and Norman L. Martin) was not as tight as it could have been, and the premise did not quite land. While I enjoy this show a lot, it sadly closed after only 9 previews and 35 regular performances.
Taken from an audience recordings of the songs on opening night.
