I'm not sure but think this might have been a dead ball era technique. I remember seeing a life size photo of Ty Cobb in his home town museum in GA where it's of him in this really bizarre stance where it looks (pitchers eye view) like he just completed this type of swing. I know he was a magician in placing his hits, why is this such a lost art? Last guy I can remember who hit very occasionally like this was Rod Carew.
