Her concept was female warrior. The dance honestly gave me the vibes of "Run the World" by Beyonce. I'm very proud of Hyoyeon and I wished that people would give her a chance.
After watching this, i realized that what makes a great performance, is not intense dance moves, but well done choreo, and especially the face expressions of the performer.. Just look at her face.. full of Charisma .. and the details are so on point..
All of the dance teachers that I had in my life always tell me to work super hard on facil expressions cus this is almost the most important part of choreo, so I agree with u
Like what the judges say on Hyoyeon's performance this week, "Perfect!", "Hyo's Dance moves are very well polished", "Total Respect!!" She deserved to win. Those Haters who commended about her concept, Do u even know what is the meaning of "The Fight"? Fight doesn't have to be martial arts, swords, kicking & punching. U can define it as one's strong will, determination to fight, girl power etc. In Hyo case, she think out of the box, she show off a woman's will, standing strong, leading a group of women. Her dance performance does shows some tribal warrior (mid dance) and soldiers kind of dance moves at the end. Smart people always think out of the Box which makes Hyo's performance so unique from others every week . She doesn't have to add in much scenarios to make her performance very visual, she mainly focused on her dance and crews' teamwork. That's why She won and appeal to those audience. I personally respect Hyo alot, she's very passionate in Dance (All kind of dances, including dance sports). She don't Deserves all these Hates. Even Oppas like Shinhwa's Minwoo, Junjin, SJ's Eunhyuk, Shinee's Taemin, Juniors Twice's Momo, Block B's U kwon, Exo's Kai & Feeldog respect her so much bcos of her dance skills.
Hyoyeon is the first female winner of hit the stage.. And she always score the highest when it comes to female competitors. Just how much prove that she is still top tier when it comes to the female idol dancers in Korea. Yes Queen, You deserve that win and HAPPY BIRTHDAY.
Can we just talk about how amazing this performance is? No one has ever dared to try this type of dance but Hyo and she executed it extremely well. Plus, the underlying message of this performance was Feminism and that you don't have to concede to society's norms by dancing a routine similar to men to be considered a good dancer. She was dancing a different color, she was exuding girl power in that warrioress form and I love it.
@Dan Davery you should hear what people often say about female dancers. I am a dancer myself and although people have been more open to female dancers, there's still misogyny. We're either underestimated because they think we can't dance as good as men and criticize us if we can't pull off a dance men usually do. And if we're not underestimated, we're given a leeway simply because we're "female" and that's just fucked up. And no, she didn't say anything about this dance routine as an act of feminism, that's just me. However, she did decide on the concept of a warrioress exuding sexiness and fierceness and to me, it came off as a feministic approach. Why do you have to be so pressed anyway? Am I not entitled to my own opinion? It's not like I was hurting anybody with my statement.
Seriously. Those people that are saying hyoyeon doesnt deserve to win. Wtf do you mean. Everybody deserves to win. Nobody deserves to lose. Especially after all the hard work the artists put in just to show you a good performance. 162 people voted for hyoyeon and they must have their reason. The panels consist of experienced dancers and all of them voted for her so respect that reason. Because i dont think dance is just all about being powerful with fancy moves. There are other elements to it. So just respect the audience and panel's decisions. In addition, its been what? 6,7 episodes already, and havent you noticed that all the winners are male dancers? Isnt it time for a female dancer to win?
lmao as a dancer i love this??? she definitely did the best so far. this show made me a ten fan and i appreciate got7's dancing talents but this week was the weakest of ten's performances in terms of showing off dance ability (his first stage on hts is definitely still my favorite) and while yugyeom's choreography was interesting and was fun his actual capabilities were barely shown. hyoyeon's execution here was INSANE, from her dynamics to her iso's to her texture her facials her form and just everything. but no, kpop fans think that any girly dance is automatically basic and praise boys to high heavens. like if yall are going to shit on hyoyeon's dancing then at least know the basics about hip hop dance.
the thing I love the most about Hyoyeon on HTS is, she didn't treat her partners as backup dancer, but as real dance partners. that's why she always gave time for her partners to be the center, and put herself in the back. she didn't care about people saying her backup dancers were better. because they were supposed to be a team, not a a celebrity and backup dancers. I think she did her best on every performance, that's why she always got the highest point among female contestants, and now she won!!! congrats Queen!!!
*Ok idk how to explain this, but I’m gonna try anyways. This choreography could’ve been done by someone who’s not a dancer, but to excecute the dance like Hyo did would be challenging, even for a trained dancer. In this terms of dance speed, acrobatics or flexibility isn’t the challenge, the challenge is in flow, expressions, sharpness, isolations and how you move and control your body. Hyo did all of it perfectly and untroubled. A dance queen indeed.*
Your second sentence is arguable because this dance can’t be done by mere person who have no dancing experiences in their life. This concept and dance requires muscle control, use of limited spaces, sharp and clean moves, etc. Only experienced dancers may execute this. If you ask someone who never dance before and did this, they wouldn’t be able execute this at all. It would look wobbly, messy and lack of techniques. If a inexperience dancer try this, they have to do lot of practices then, hence, may gain experiences as a dancer. So I think you you worded it weirdly by saying it could’ve been done by someone who is not a dancer.
Momo Takagawa that’s what I said. I said or wrote that it could have been done by someone unexperienced, but it wouldn’t be executed properly. And note that i wrote the choreography (it), not (this) how hyoyeon danced it. I think u just misunderstood.
I need people to realize that control is important. People bring up all these dancers from other groups saying how theyre the best dancer but they have no control. (Im not gonna name who or from what generation of kpop, if u know u know). Their placement, footwork, emotion, intensity, transition are sloppy. It looks good on the surface bc of the swag til you start actually paying attention to it and realize that they miss small details, and in art small details are what make the biggest difference.
noooooo no this is quite wrong, Dancehall is one of the more complex dance genres that look easy but studying it is HELL. You can't choreograph this without experience because then you'll miss all the detailed isolations in dancehall. If you get any of your isolations in the wrong angle or off beat or even MISS it, the result is very visible in Dancehall. You also need a high command of musicality to interpret these pieces in the way Honey J choreographed. Even in here I think Hyoyeon missed some details but her accuracy is pretty much 90%+ which tells you how hard the genre is to perfect it.
*Solid performance. Her moves reminded me of a modified Haka war dance from Māori people of New Zealand, which totally fits the theme and her expression and aura totally kills it. I interpret her fight as the aggression in her spirit and the anticipatory tension showed in the dance.*
Solid yes Aggressive? Tension? No! Her movements are way too soft She has not such a fierce expression like yall make it to be. Tbh in comparison to the song which demands a very hard demeanour and snappy moves, she has neither. Cuddos cause she actually tried to do smth not a lot of kpop stars would try but still this is NOT the best. Stop idolising this Ps: i love her tbh shes my only fav SNSD member but this is just not her thing
The fact that she did dancehall...she gets my vote any day of the week. Koreans are indulging in many genres, I am happy to see reggae and dancehall beung portrait in Korean entertainment!!! She a bubble!!!
The thing about Hyo that makes her one of the best idol dancers, is not only can she dance almost every genre, but she makes it look SO DAMN EASY and natural - it's like she puts no effort into it, which is so freaking hard to make it look like. That is raw talent ❤️ Many can do the moves, but few can actually feel them. Hyoyeon can. Slay!!
this is the first time I saw her dance like that and still slay. Dear haters, or people who don't think she deserves the first place, go to your bias videos to whine and cry there.
honey I'm not being butthurt bc my oppa didn't win lol I don't stan yugyeom but I find his performance much better than this one, as I said I'm just stating my opinion: her performance wasn't good enough to win 1st place. grow up and learn how to accept people's opinion. ciao.
+Yousra Amc Honey, different people appreciate different things so quit hating on how she didn't deserve 1st. It's obvious when people hate and state their opinions. Lmao its funny how yall hate on her and then try to cover it up by saying "idk its my opinion"
When she do the 'devil' theme by showing you guys tango, you guys says that the performance is not good... when she do the 'uniform' theme, many says that she have no passion and expression in the dance... and when she do this dance for 'fight' theme, you guys says that there is no story line and boring and dont deserve the win... so my question is what did you guys want her to do... to dance like the male contestant for her to win this show??? or what?? ps: sorry for my bad english
And for the ones that aren't biased got7 or nct fangirls and simply didnt like the performance: Your personal opinion is not a fact, you can freely not like the performance but don't come here and write she didn't deserve to win. The technique was there, the theme was there, the performance was there. There were professionals in the panel that voted for her (the entire panel did). If it looks easy its because she's that good to make it that way, pulling off a choreography like that requires a huge amount of body control. If you like hip hop, big moves and more energetic stuff fine, go ahead and watch those but don't you dare saying she didn't "deserve" to win
Well I hate big companies, but I agree SM have the best dancers, even if you just watch their BG and GG choreos. you can tell already, I'm a hater but I'm not delusional putting my bias group above sm groups when it comes to dancing... I can accept reality. xD
I hope nobody has any delusions about this kind of dance being easy to do just because it's sexy, that shit takes WORK and SKILL, and frankly, she turned it out
as someone who takes their style after dancers like bam martin fem pieces have ALWAYS been the hardest since it requires the most skill. you not only need good musicality and texture, but you need to maintain perfect control and flexibility, not to mention body awareness and the fact that you gotta work in some ratchet facials. the kind of choreo that kpop fangirls tend to enjoy are actually the easiest type of choreo to execute since even if youre messy as long as its hype then people dgaf lmao.
After a year, and I'm here again. lol. Reading the comments from years ago saying Hyo doesn't deserve this episode, made me realize that they do not know anything about dancing. lol. This ain't your typical kpop choreography. This is dancehall mixed with some tutting and some popping with modern hip-hop moves. Incorporating those dance genres in one go is hella hard. Hyo made this smooth and looks like it's easy to do, but no, it takes one of a hell great dancer to execute this in a clean and controlled manner. And to top that, dancehall isn't even in her fortes, but still did a pretty good job. Knowing all the basics and fundamentals of dances; what when, where and how to execute. She knows that really well. Interpretation of a given theme? She gives deeper interpretation, not just being mediocre. Always thinking out of the box whenever she's dancing. She's indeed a REAL dancer.
I've learned dancing for quiet long time so I could tell that this piece is NOT EASY!! It might look only sexy which is easy for many girls to dance but actually it has a lot of 'DANCEHALL' vibe. I used to learn dancehall and it's so hard! You have to control your body well to make your dance look good. Hyoyeon and her crew did a very good job and I respect for that as a dancer.
a lot of critics are here to say that she's not deserving to win. I need to grab a popcorn and enjoy reading their comments Hahahaha I just enjoy watching Hyoyeon doing the thing that she wants most
okay I'm Jamaican and I feel so happy when other cultures know it and dance to it...I lover her so much and I'm so happy she won!! good for her she deserved it
Were you really happy about this? Didn't you feel that the stage (not her or the dancers, but the decoration) was a little bit racist? I mean, I couldn't stop thinking it with all that tribal ornamentation and the torches... I'm asking sincerely, not trying to be snarky or anything. I'm just specifing 'cause I know written messages often come across as ill-intended. Please understand I'm asking honestly :p
+ EgaWill I don't see it as racist? I feel like they wanted to fit dancehall culture but also match the bad-girl concept, which means they'd lean more towards torches than palm trees. I liked seeing something I relate to culturally being well executed and celebrated. (But honestly if you're a black k-pop fan [ or any POC to be fair] you have to make peace with the appropriation aspect of it or you'd never be able to enjoy it.)
If it was racist I would've said so, but it isn't..it's not offensive or anything because dancehall is not only for Jamaicans but anybody who wants to learn and dance to it. It lets you know that it's appreciated elsewhere
It may look simple because the choreography isn't fast or difficult to execute. But the truth is that the choreo has to do with a lot of muscle control- flexing and relaxing, which is difficult to execute in this kind of songs. The choreo also had a lot to do with emphasis on small movements. And Hyoyeon practically slayed this. Well done girl!! Although I can understand why many would say that this performance wasn't deserving enough to be first place because as much as she slayed this dance, the audience couldn't really grasp the concept. The others' performances were easy to understand but hers was a little bit more deep hence why many didn't feel a connection with hers. But I actually felt like hers, the Up10tion guy, TEN's and Got7's was a tie. This episode was overall one of the best! A majority of them truly showcased their potentials in this ep which made me feel pruod of them! Well done guys! c:
She did better than last week but i still prefer her tango stage on 1st theme. It suits her better. I read the top comments that she won this time. So congrats to her~
I love her tango too. I thought it could have been the 1st place. She should dance with a big group like this, so they can make some special shapes and it's more impressive.
I memorised and did the choreo of Yugyeom, Hyo, and Min. And not gonna lie, Hyoyeon's dance are the most difficult to memorise, close to Yugyeom. The movement are easier compared to those 3, but the technic are hella difficult. Every time I'm repeating the whole entire dance, I always forgot here and there. The performance it's fucked up even you only missing one move!! Yugyeom's choreo has a lot of improvisation that I can do to cover up my mistake yet still make it good. But Hyoyeon though... one move you're wrong, you're done. And another think I found is that "how she make it so easy to watch??" It's like she's been doing this choreo forever.
Haters gonna hate. If she does popping/ locking, people would comment that she only do what she's comfortable with and it's boring. But it's not true! One main thing about being a Dancer is being versatile and Hyoyeon did it. She's always willing to try new genres and putting effort in all her performances. I'm proud of her success! Dragging Hyo down wouldn't make any other idols look better. ps. Happy Birthday, Dancing Queen! ❤️
I already watch this and still can't believe from Hyoyeon all over performances, for me, she's really a wise and great dancer, hit the stage was a competition yet for her it wasn't. She's just obviously enjoying herself as individual and not bragging about that she actually represent SNSD in herself, but instead she became more open minded and use a lot genre that she's unfamiliar too, she didn't go there for a trophy, she go there for experience. ❤️
