A very interesing portable full size VHS video recorder player with built in colour CRT.
This is faulty any help or sugestions with this repair would be much apreciated. please comment.

I have one of these i picked up a few years ago for cheap at a yard sale. The CRT on mine works but the tape section does not work at all and you have to hold down the power switch to keep the unit on. Mine also came with a seperate but matching tv tuner unit that works. I don't have the time nor the patience to do the repairs so hopefully I will find it a new home one day soon. I hope you get yours fully working. Cheers from canada.

I picked one of those up on a local fleamarket together with a JCV GX-S9 camera. Lovely old tech - just the way i like it. Will power it on later today - and see what happens :)

After some cleaning and new belts i gave it a shot. CRT works like a charm - everything moves smooth. Of course i have problems with the takeup spool idler. Took it apart, cleaned everything, used rubber renue. Still issues - even with a layer of heat shrink on the rotating axle. Will take another look soon. For the short time its running, picture looks good to me - so both SP heads seem to be fine :)

Found the problem : heat shrink came loose on the axle. Removed it - cleaned everything again, realigned idler - working for now. Will recap in the near future - and ordered a NOS idler on ebay.

hi, i restored one very recently. the only tips i can give you is : beware of capacitors... you'll find a lot of the miniature 10µ and above values to be bad. that's the reason why it stop even with the new belt. replace the capacitor on the reel rotation sensor, and it should be fine. then, replace (at least) all 10µ on all boards. 1, 2.2, 3.3, 4.7µ are usually good. but 10 and above... a disaster. check also capacitors in monitor, some goes bad too. check at least the 1000µ on the FBT supply, this one work hard. for the 220V input, look what say the sticker above it and you'll understand why **it doesn't work** :) for the take-up idler, i ended putting heat shrink on the gear who drive it. even with a new rubber, it stopped working after some hours, my guess is the nylon of this gear somewhat retracted and loose contact. so, heat shrink compensate that and give a good grip.
