👉 Rochus Misch was born in Stare Siołkowice, currently in the Opole Voivodeship
👉 At the age of 20, he joined the elite Leibstandarte SS unit, which was Hitler's bodyguard. In 1939, he participated in the war against Poland and was wounded during the siege of the fortress in Modlin. From April 1940, he served Hitler, along with the second SS man Johannes Hentschl, as a bodyguard, switchboard operator and courier. "We were with Hitler day and night," he said in numerous interviews a few years ago.
👉 Misch stayed in a bunker under the Reich Chancellery in Berlin at the turn of April and May 1945, shortly before the fall of the Third Reich.
👉 While operating the telephone exchange, he was in the bunker on April 30 when Hitler committed suicide along with Eva Braun, whom he had married the day before. Misch claimed to have seen Hitler's body being carried out of the bunker.
👉 Adolf Hitler's former bodyguard, Rochus Misch, died at the age of 96 on Thursday, September 5, 2013 in Berlin. The German SS man was the last witness of what he claimed was the suicide death of the leader of the Third Reich in a bunker under the Reich Chancellery in April 1945
