I wonder if a streaming miniseries could work, instead of a movie. Instead of 47 you follow some of the cleanup crew from ICA removing evidence and bodies, as well as Diana trying to uncover where 47 came from, and why the recent ICA targets were all related to each other somehow. Basically Codename 47 in a fresh coat of paint :) you don't really see 47 himself, save for a few glimpses and headset talks with Diana and ICA crew while you follow the target's perspective to learn a bit about them if they are a good or evil person, and then you see him just before the kill, circling back to the ICA cleanup extraction team and Diana, trying to humanize 47 who is just an empty killer hunting the villain of the week, finishing off where it all began in Romania.
There really has to be a Hitman movie strictly following the game, but it's gotta be well done. 2007's Olymphant actually, or somewhat captures the atmosphere of it, except the shootout in the mansion.
I saw someone suggest a tv show that takes one target each episode and tie them together in the end. It's been 2 years and I am still waiting for the day it becames reality.
Hitman is probably better as a series each episode and story focuses on a particular target and less on 47 himself and it slowly builds to an overarching story. Hitman is like a slasher movie but its the Victims who are the bad guys not the killer. (I mean the Constant is basically the "Final Girl" if you injected him with the serum)
In addition you could make the story and dialog focus just as much, if not more on Diana than on 47. Leaves more room for complex scenes and situations 47 usually wouldn't be too well suited for, like expressing emotions.
