30 years ago, at age 30, recovering from a painful divorce, and cautiously beginning a new romance with the girl I would marry, these early Bee Gee songs became the soundtrack of our courtship. As the years have passed, and having listened to these songs dozens upon dozens of times each year, I am convinced The Bee Gees are the greatest pop music composers and singers of the rock and roll era, and I speak as a devoted fan of The Beach Boys and The Beatles (the killer Bs). My wife has been dead now for 7 years, but these songs remind me of what love felt like, convince me over and over again there is beauty in the world, and to quote one of the Gibbs only peers, there is no such thing as a silly love song.
Thank you so much for sharing your most touching story! Much appreciated. As a woman of the twin's age, I just put up a little tribute to my husband of 32 years upon the 6th anniversary of his death today utilizing their very old recording of The First Of May. Too Much Heaven would have also been appropriate but I can save that for next year. Unfortunately my first husband still remains alive @ 80 making everyone around him miserable while the two gems in my life had to pass away, one at 85 and one suddenly at only 65 right in front of me but such is the cycle of life ... I have my two beautiful dogs, everyone knows where they're going if need be in my will and time just marches on while we choose or not choose to make our own lives a thing of joy or a thing of misery.
Maurice is up to mischief. Just having clean fun. He is a rare and pure soul. All of them have such a profound love for each other. What an amazing trio of brothers. I will always love the Bee Gees.
They're so good here!! Definitely in one of their prime periods. Robin looks like an angel. Barry is HOT as all get out. Maurice is his adorable self. What an extraordinary trio of brothers. No one else comes close.
They had a huge catalog of hits, and this was a couple of years before Saturday Nigh Fever turned them into giants of the recording industry. Really big things were on the horizon for them.
Loved this truly live medley by the Brothers Gibb. Their pre-falsetto music was so rich and almost overshadowed by their disco domination. This Midnight Special was at what I actually believe was their artistic peak. So glad it is so well presented.
Their album "Main Course", released in 1975, was a very rich and musically complex and simply beautiful. I've found something to love on each lp they released, but "Main Course" is my favorite.
I really enjoyed this--Barry did not monopolize the singing -Robin had equal time. I did not enjoy the shows where Barry did most of the singing. I love all 3 BeeGees, but liked to hear an equal amount of Robin and Barry.
Thank you, thank you, thank you, The Midnight Special, for making this the perfect Sunday morning for us. This is my all time favorite medley ever. Mo cutting up with Robin and Barry is just priceless and that precious look on Robin's face at the end of "Broken Heart" is totally worth the price of admission! Thanks again from the bottom of my heart! ❤️
Yes, I agree. Robin is serious about singing. And it is nice to see him smiling there a couple times at the end of "Broken Heart". ❤❤❤ Also my favorite Medley of theirs! Beautiful.❤
I rolled myself out of bed early this morning just for this. Imagine my delight finding you picked the medley from 1975. Waiting right now for Mo to start his pesky little brother antics. Robin is impervious, sometimes Barry about cracks up, but they never miss a perfect note. The harmony on "World" is, well, out of this world. I have always been crazy about "I Can't See Nobody" and "Run to Me" is just delicious. Those boys always did a perfect, very special medley.
i remember seeing the bee gees on midnight special back in january 1983 on a sunday night. of course it was a rerun. i became a bee gees fan that night.
Pure perfection, the vocals, the harmonies and the whole presentation. Watching Maurice and Robin lets my mind trick me into believing they’re still with us.
I know, right?! I was thinking how crazy it was that Mo was literally touching Robin and moving his arm and, yet, Robin appeared to be completely unfazed by it! But, then again, Robin never seemed to be fazed by any of Mo's antics ever. I just don't see how that's possible! I mean, I get that he had to be used to them, especially as his twin, but still.
It would be impossible not to laugh! Have you seen The Tonight Show clip where Robin is talking very earnestly about something, Mo is watching him intently, and then Mo just says out of nowhere, “You know something? You’re really cute.” 😂😂😂😂
@@_Beth__ I know, right?! Yes, I have seen that! That's my favorite part of the whole video - not only because of what you said from it, but, also, because of how adorable Robin is when he raises his eyebrows while saying, “Not soldiers necessarily,” and the way he says that.
Absolutely love them grew up with them. Robin was such an incredible dresser and his expressions are priceless. Their voices are amazing. Miss Robin and Mo
3:40 Maurice assists Robin with his in ear mic.........4:00 he polishes and inserts his "invisible" in ear mic to add the third harmony......Maurice was the humor and the statesman that kept the other two from killing each other. I will always love Robin best, but I never tire of the sweet nature of Moby.
Even better, the back view starting after 7:06, where you can see Robin putting his arm behind his back, and then Mo setting up the schtick. To me this looks like pure brotherly love: they had obviously worked out the joke in advance, but they touched with such gentle affection. I watch this over and over.
Yes, I have already watched this a couple of times today. At one point it looked as tho Robin got upset with Mo and then just a little after and he smiled at him. Robin has very kind eyes. You can see the love between them 💗
I didnt want this to end.......so i had to watch it again. Loved Mo having a laugh getting up to all sorts. Robin looks his best at this stage of his life with chubbier cheeks than in later life. He sounds remarkable. Barry too with his natural voice singing beautiful melodies and harmonies. The audiences in these programs were so respectful to artists and actually listened before showing their appreciation at the end. Whats not to love about the Midnight Specials. Thank you so much for sharing these. X
4:00 It's very funny to watch here how Maurice goes from "whatever" to "time to work serious now" and delivering amazing vocals right away 😂 He's my favorite Bee Gee, mostly because of his work on their first ten albums, where he played almost every instrument and did amazing backing vocals on all the songs
this is the one. The brothers did various medleys through the years but this the one, the best .. If you do nothing else Midnight Special, thank you for this one :)
I've seen two versions of this Midnight Special. Love them both, except for the Helen Reddy part in the other one. This one shows a little more at the end after Robin's little hoof dance. Also a few different camera angles in this one . Who's the dude laying down in his seat in the first row below the stage? And is that Molly next to him? Any guesses?
Love the way the light reflects off Maurice's belt. Wish the camera had shown Robin at 2:44 before he came in on Run To Me. Maurice putting Robin's hand on his ear killed me. 😅
I believe these were the 3 sexiest men on earth....they put their hearts into everything! That is soooooo breathtaking. If a man can put out his heart this way...he is exquisite!!❤❤❤❤❤
Maurice just helps Barry sing 'how can you mend a broken heart - how can you stop the rain from falling down'. Just part of this overall performance - they are all so .....together. Love it.
Just recently rewatched the documentary "How Can You Mend A Broken Heart". Their absolute beauty of their music, the stories of their lives & of course the passing of the brothers all brought me to tears. My heart still goes out for Sir Barry ❤😢
Thank you for this one. I was obsessed with this medley when I first discovered it on RU-vid about 2 years ago. It’s great to see it again in such clear quality. They sound fantastic - as they always do live. I love the transition from Run to Me into World and the perfect harmonies on the latter ❤
@DiannMoonlight Oh same 😁 Mo was adorable. Couldn't get enough of his antics to then then just smoothly slide in to complete their killer harmony. Love love love Maurice!!! 💖🤗
There will never be a generation to come that hears these three amazing men's work from writing, performing, and producing without being in awe of their combined talent!
Continuation: I mean the most humble performers when they sing and do humorous acts. They are funny and ❤️ lovable, especially Mo. We'll miss the twins and Andy. To Barry, please continue making more songs. We'll cherish 😍 them all. God bless you all. Your forever fan.
Oldies lovers get the “midnight special” dvd set. All the songs we love, live. I saw a professional group pretending to be the beegees. I wanted to get on stage with them so badly.
Minimal accompaniment, 3 perfect voices blended in perfect harmony. Mo was always my favorite, but I love them all and their very special individual talents, and they will live forever in my heart just as they are in this moment. Thank you Bee Gees for beautiful harmonies, beautiful melodies, beautiful memories. (I am 60 years old. The Bee Gees and staying up for The Midnight Special were two big parts of my youth.)
Robin looked so much healthier with a little meat on his bones. He became painfully thin even before he got sick. He and Mo suffered so, I hope when its his time Barry just slips away in his sleep.
I love to watch anything and everything with the Bee Gees from the early days until the last days. I never get tired. My adult sons have slowly become fans too.
The Bee Gees the best in the world, one one xxxx RIP MO AND ROBIN 😢😢
Gratidão ao canal 🇧🇷 I'm loving that edits of Midnight Special are being posted on RU-vid, full shows or cuts, both in great quality. For those who couldn't watch it at the time it was broadcast, it's a gift received by modern times. I love Bee Gees unconditionally and I, as a young Brazilian fan, am thrilled when I come into contact with these archives. Gratitude to the channel
Thank you for sharing this stellar '75 vintage footage of The Bee Gees from Midnight Special. They had such great magical original vocal harmonies, arrangements, melodies. Timeless songs. Beautiful music to escape from the current world for a little while. Cheers.
Thank you so much for posting this! It looks and sounds perfect!! I was used to seeing other versions with lower quality lol. This is amazing!! Thank you so so much😊😄😄😊
My favorite group, hope you keep putting more of their appearances out. I know that they were on at least in 1973 and 1975. Mind you I was born in 75, but great music stays great. They deserved to get into both of the hall of fames, rock and roll and songwriters. And I'm a firm believer that music has and will always bring people together in peace and friendship. (Blowing up records is a crime, I don't care what genre or who made it, it should get at least one listen so a person can decide if it is for them and if not they can give it to someone else to listen to).
I see again and again and again this concert and love it. The Bee Gees will be the best in the world. My eternity love Mo. RIP MO AND ROBIN one one xxxx 😢😢😢😢😢
