Arguably the most important part of becoming a successful hitter is having great rhythm and timing. I walk you through some tips and tricks to help improve on this aspect of hitting as well as a great drill at home you can do if you cant make it to a field or into a cage.

Thanks dude, I'm 13 and I've been working on my swing alot but not my timing. I've got extremely fast bat speed but I didn't have the timing to compensate for it so I was super early on pretty much anything. I switched up my leg kick a little bit and started thinking more about right center (I'm a righty) and it's helped a lot.

never thought of the hand reaching back as your base rhythm point, but its definitely a great and simple idea

Some of the videos I came across mentioned that the Batter should be loading when the pitcher is loading, and the batter should stride when the pitcher is striding to throw the ball. In your case, you are loading when the ball is outside of the pitcher's glove. So, which approach is recommended: loading when the pitcher is loading, or loading when the ball is outside of the pitcher's glove?

How does this rhythm and timing translate to the golf swing? When the ball's just sitting there, is timing and rhythm all that helpful, or is it an impediment to bringing all one's power to bear? Thx.
@theswingman9437
@theswingman9437 Год назад
Yes. Rhythm and timing is everything when maximizing effortless speed. Hitting a golf ball off a tee still feels like a reaction to me when the sequence is right. When it’s forced, that’s when things don’t feel fast anymore

@@theswingman9437 This is probably going to sound kind of weird, but in thinking about rhythm and timing when watching your long drive swing, it kind of reminds me of a sneeze. It's like "ah...ah...aaaah-CHOO!" and the ball goes sailing off into the grid. (Yup, that's definitely my weirdest analogy in 2023...so far.😏) It's hard for me to put my finger on it, but it seems more like something you tap into rather than something you make happen. In my own swing, I think I've gotten too carried away with trying make things happen. Need to get back to letting magic be magic. Anyway, thanks very much for your response. Best of luck in long drive this year. I'll be rooting for you.🙏🏻

DAMN man you have a FREAKING GREAT form and SO MUCH bat control! this video TRULY is helpful! i broke my leg and ankle REALLY bad a while back in a collision in the outfield. The biggest struggle is getting my rhythm/timing & bat control back to how it was before my injury. I love how you went in depth with the approach of the ball and when to start you stride towards the ball! do you have any tips on how to get great bat control like yours?
@theswingman9437
@theswingman9437 6 лет назад
Stefan Anderson Awesome!! I’m glad you were able to take away from this video. I will definitely have more tips to help with bat control or more so barrel control is how i like to refer to it. A lot of one hand drills help, but doing them controlled and leading with the knob by keeping your hands inside is the most important part. You want to completely let go of hitting the ball hard with one hand drills and focus on hitting the sweet spot every time. I will have tee drills posted sometime this week! And good luck with the recovery, I went through a similar struggle also with a collision in the outfield
@hokeshuler1297

Stefan Anderson I do, and I know I'm a nobody. However, here is all you need to do for superior bat control... Start slow, start early (once you've been taught to time properly). The point of collision is where you need to explode...about 7 to 10 inches in front of you. It's that easy...

Hi i like your Video. But i was thinking in real Game situations. My son and call it triggers. Or trigger points because he is at Major Level 11/12. All different speeds. He times them. Either bye there knee hitting the highest point. or arm up.start load Above all have your front foot down at halfway mark which i seen you did. Your opinion?

Great swing, but you don't seem to open your hips up as much during batting practice as you did during the games.

Can u do a video on breaking down the batting stance? Also the move back is it the front knee that moves the body back or is the body moving back pulling the front knee up?

Where do you look to find the ball out the pitchers hands ? Like people say the shoulder, hat, glove, etc. But it doesn't work for me. What's a way to find the ball out the pitchers hand is basically what I'm asking?
@theswingman9437
@theswingman9437 6 лет назад
I make sure my both my eyes are comfortably in view of the pitchers release point especially if it’s something unique like a tall sidearmer or submariner. But I basically just look in the general direction of his release point, almost like a 1’ x 1’ square and as he brings his throwing arm out of his glove, I focus to where he releases the ball. I know guys who focus on the pitchers logo on his hat and pick up the release point when it comes time, but I found my eyes move less when I just start looking towards a general area

The Swingman...dude, you rake from both sides. Love your form and your strong. I’m currently working with my 10 yr old on timing. As the pitcher breaks his hands, I’m teaching him to start his load and then step watching arm movement over the top. Do you play college ball?
@theswingman9437
@theswingman9437 6 лет назад
Thank you! That’s great you are explaining rhythm to him early on. Just emphasize balance and aggressive with the legs. It’s a tough job at that age. But you gotta find different angles and terminology that clicks with him. I played 4 years of college ball and was drafted by the Orioles in the 13th round back in 2010. Now I just play in local leagues for fun

My son and I have good days and days when I feel like we haven’t made much progress, but that’s how baseball goes and he just turned 10. We’re gonna just keep putting in that work tho for spring 2019. Open stance lefty, Load, step (not in bucket) fence drill tee work to warm up, then live BP where we see how many runs we can get with three outs in three innings. Just for fun. He’s a work in progress and were both having a blast just bonding, playing together and staying active. We have two more outside BP practices and then he’s going into speed and agility in a week until Dec and then strength and conditioning in late Dec. and then starting indoor BP /skills thru March. Do you suggest any of your favorite hitting or fielding drills? Thanks for the reply’s!
