I'm new to beekeeping, but I really like your videos. You show the good, the bad and the down right ugly. You don't sugar coat anything, you say how it is. I look forward to many years of content to content to come. Thanks.
Hello Ian, You were not sure why the bees had not gone through the newspaper. Two things I find helps, is making a number of holes the size you would have in your feeder buckets to get them started, also wet a small area of the newspaper with a little syrup. I have never known it to fail. Kind regards, Tony Marsh. UK.
Had some nucs take a step back about the same time that first big hatch started .. figured the winter nest did its job gave everything it had then died ... their growing now but wish i had put feed on them cause they got dry quick .. got the buckets back on now .. next year ill do better .. its a whole different ball game managing over wintered colonys ..
I bet it would be quite interesting to be your step and fetchit guy for a couple of weeks. Your observations and techniques are quite interesting. Wish i was young enough to follow you around.
I just want to thank you for sharing this In my experience i don't merge queenlees hive with other i prefer to add a frame with fresh 1 day old eggs so the queenless hive can go ahead build new queen by their own The other method is to spray the queenless hive with non chemical Perfum and the other hive that has a queen with the same perfume so that both hives get the same smell and will be merged in just 15 minutes But if the queenless hive have a false queen if you understand what i mean i just get this hive away from the bees yard about 400 metres and drop the bees on a newspaper the working queen will be back to their hive and you should add new frame with fresh eggs 1day old and honey frame at the same place also you have to keep their own box so they start to build their own new virgin queen Wael Golan Heights
I love watching your channel to hear your perspective. I know you know male from female, but I couldn't help notice you referred to the worker bee as, "this guy...he flew away."
There is a theory that field bees often sleep out of the hive. It has been found here that bees will fly to canola up to 6 km away. It seems that if they are still out at night fall, they will just "sleep" where they are and continue back to the hive the next day.
Does that top weaker box have its own entrance or must go through the paper and lower box? And what about if your just combining colonies, top entrance?
I believe.....not knowing......that you could just smoke the bees really good in both boxes and combine them right away since all the bees would smell the same like smoke.
You prolly dont give a shit but if you're bored like me during the covid times then you can stream pretty much all of the latest movies and series on InstaFlixxer. Been streaming with my brother recently =)
