Congrats my man! Your channel is quickly becoming a favorite of mine and many, many others I’m sure! Keep up the great work, Happy New Year and Godspeed to you and yours!!
I was just looking at those mini headphone tube amps, and tube preamps thinking I should probably try building one of those. It'll be cool to see you work your way through this one. I eventually hope to tackle a bass amp, but still need to work my skill set up a bit more. Getting my butt handed to me by a Spectrum(Meatball) so it'll be some time yet.
Unless I'm mistaken, your transformers are not turned 90deg to each other as installed. One is laid down and one is standing up, but the windings are parallel to each other. I think you had it right before the change.
Correct! This orientation is the "not-as-good" 90deg, compared to the 90deg twist of the actual windings. Unfortunately the constraints of using a premade chassis, and making that work for different transformers has drawbacks. I was concerned at first though, but I did the "headphone test" and found that the transformers being so far apart meant it didn't really make a difference.
I created a similar clone earlier, and despite the detailed instructions and the beauty of the assembly, your amplifier cannot have the sound of the original high watt. the whole essence of the original is mostly in unique turnoffers, especially in the output. It has a special sectioning of the windings of the output transformer. The winding of the coil is divided in half and has a cross sectioning of the windings.
