I own two HKs with the decocker on the rear. One is in my edc rotation. The DA trigger pull is long but it is smooth and I use it for the first shot out every mag at the range and carry with the hammer down, but ready to go into DA pull. Like most things, it is a training issue and I believe having that long pull actually makes me a better shot. I also agree that it is unlikely to be a factor in any stressful situation. I love my HK P30. The LEM is awesome, but I like the V3. You can leave it cocked and locked if you go with the safety version. The V1 is the LEM and it's better for ccw, in my opinion.
I have close to 1k rds through mine without a hiccup. I did swap out for the GG flat-faced trigger and short reset kit. Just couldn’t get much leverage with the factory curve trigger but maybe I needed more training. Mine is the V3 so it has the safety as well, so I could carry like a 1911/2011 safely if I chose too. Would like to get a P2000 with that crazy 3 million rd torture test.
You can convert all the HK P series and USP guns to LEM. I find the sig p226/229 requires a slight turn to access the de-cocker, however it is very quiet. The HKs are loud when using the feature.
While I had Hk on the phone, they offered to do that for me. However, at the time I couldn’t do without it and I was hung up on the voided space in the frame and slide from removing the de-cocker.
You can leave the deocker in. In fact, you can even convert to lem and maintain a functional decocker. Like having a da/sa lem. The things you can do are pretty amazing.
