I had been so focused on finding a new P30, I never even knew the USP existed (compact or otherwise), until I saw it listed online at one of my local gun shops. After watching every RU-vid video review I could find (including this one), I decided to buy it - overpriced at $1,019 but I have no buyer's remorse. It feels much better in my hand than the P30 or VP9, even with their multitude of replaceable grip side panels and backstraps. And it feels like it has more of that inherent 1990's build quality than the 21st century designs (so far).
The USPc also can run the VP9 mags so it's a great buy. They make Trijicon HD's and rail adapters for it. Finding the holster is the tricky part. But the USPc is a micro tank. It's great. Also very solid concealed carry piece.
I got this gun in 45, very dependable, I call it mr. reliable. I got my first HK after watching your HK45 vid when you were N M. I now have five HKs. I know Noir loves this gun. I also sold 3 of my HKs when my Wilson came in and needed fast cash. And now Im trying to buy those guns back but owner wont sell them.
Now that we are coming into 2022 and you are (currently) down to 4x 9mm pistols, would love to see a comparison on the 3 generations of hammer fire Hk 9mm pistols. Favorite trigger, version of a given platform (USP/c, p2000/sk, p30/l/sk). And of course your favorite overall and why. Could be a fun mental excercise as you have definitely experienced all of these.
I picked one up for 550. Crazy the guy who owned it was his first pistol and he said that he wanted to get a 1911 and couldn't justify owning 2 pistols??? I literally said "what does that mean?". My gain. Absolutely no war on the pistol probably less then 150 rounds through it.
Good review. I have a P30(love it!) and just scored a USPc 9. Can't wait to shoot it! I've a number of USPs down through the years, but never a compact, and never a 9mm. Should be fun.
The USPc is the only HK I've ever had that didn't really work out for me. I had two of them, one in 9mm and one in .40 S&W. Well made, totally reliable, etc but for whatever reason I just couldn't shoot them well. Sure, if I really focused and slowed down I could get reasonable groups but it never came easily for me with the USPc. Probably it just didn't quite fit my hand. The USPf9, VP9, P30, P30L, USP45 Tactical and the P2000...all of those guns are very easy for me to shoot well. The last one, the P2000, is basically the same size (even uses the same mag) but the ergos are totally different [note- I run the larger backstrap]. It's really a shame, the USPc is a great gun. It has all the trigger options, too, unlike the P2000 which has no option to run C1/cocked-and-locked. Really wanted to like the USPc but it didn't work for me. But it's a fantastic choice if it fits your hand.
That's interesting, the exact same thing happened to me with the P30SK. Reliable, well made, and other people could shoot it accurately. For whatever reason I just couldn't connect with it. I bought a USPc in 45 and I shoot it better than any other pistol I own. Sometimes it's not the gun, it's just an inexplicable x factor.
Jason Wall Did you try different back strap/side panel combinations? I prefer sm/sm on my P30SK V1. With my P30L V3 I prefer med/sm. With that combination it reminds me of my P226.
Did yours come with the spurred hammer or did you switch it out? I see USP compacts with both hammers. Wasn't sure if it was specific to the trigger variant...
i have it in 40. im sorry but the only 40 cal pistil i would carry is the usp series. because hk actually developed the weapon around the 40. but i have the full size and compact
i put the HK USP 9mm variant 1 on lay away last week pending my original birth. I'm left handed, would it be worth my time to request Variant 2 model that is for left handed. There where no other variants in stock at the time
The grip texture is my chief complaint with the HK45. If it had more aggressive texture, it would be the compact 45acp pistol to beat. For me it's the only compact 45acp I'll run, but it has room for improvement in the grip texture for sure.
Always have wanted one of those USPCs. Found a great deal on a P2000, LEM, Trijicon HDs, HK45c mag release. It was used like yours meaning can't tell for $549.00.
That's a solid price I think. If it's something you're looking to get into, with the HD's on top of it, I'd definitely pick it up if you haven't already.
Yes, I already did buy it about a month ago. The salesman told me P2000s are out of favor and the pricing has come down to Glock pricing. I've only put 100rds through it and trying to learn the LEM trigger system. I kept short stroking the reset during rapid fire however, I think I'll learn it better.
I had that issue for a while with my P30 series. That reset is a killer, but when I ran it exclusively, my brain and finger caught up. So it didn't happen hardly ever and I began to run it quickly. The LEM helps for sure.
There both superb pistols, I have the P226 navy, the full size version of the P229, as well as the USP compact, both in 9mm, I love them both equally! I'm now considering to get either a USP or a P2000 in. 40, cause its the round the USP was originally designed for
I recently fell back in love with my USPc .45. I would like one in 9mm but can’t find them very often. How would you compare the USPc to the P30 (both in 9mm). Which would you prefer between the two?
I have a soft spot for the USPc and if CC signature is the most important for you, then the USPc. But overall I like everything the P30 is/offers. The trigger is the only detractor for the P30 series, but over time it smooths out and you get endured to it. One of my carry guns is the P30 V3 9mm. That's what I would go with, unless you need the smallest possible package without going sub compact.
@@navyman8903 Agreed. I have the P30L, P30 and P30sk all in LEM with the gray guns short reset. Even still, the trigger is not the best. My USPc .45 has LEM too, but it feels a bit better than the p30. I still love the p30. Probably within my top 3 that I own.
@@fearnonebutone4977 There's just something about the P30 that feels more like a fighting gun and draws faster/more confidently. It also doesn't fight me at all when I shoot it, I just draw and get to work.
@@navyman8903 Thank You For Responding. I New To The H&K World. I Have 2 USP Compacts One 45 And One 9mm. Both Have Bobbed Hammers. Maybe I'll Switch One. I'll Look To See If There's Any Advantage To Having A Regular Hammer. Or Maybe You Might Have Some Input.
+DevilDolphin just curious. in comparsion to felt recoil how does this compare to the vp9? i had a p30ls and agree it shot very softly but i feel that th vp9 has more felt recoil than hinestly any other 9mm i have or have had. i dont care though because i love vp. im only asking as the compact usp has been nagging at me for a couple years now and im not sure i wanna buy one even though the usp series is by far and away my favorite hk design.
Ive been wanting a USPc in 40 but i'll take it in 9 too since I'm depending on finding it on the used market. I wish I could find a V3 instead of a V1 though.
CLplusP If you can't find the variant you want, buy what is available; you can find the other variants' levers (or lack thereof) and associated internals online and either replace them yourself, or have an armorer do it for you. Swapped mine over from left-side with safety to right-side, decock only.
I have some 147's I've been saving for when I get a can for the MK25. I think I'll run 100 through it and see how she does. I know the 147's give a 9mm the 45 feel. Which I like. So I'll let everyone know how it goes when I do the 1,000 round update.
The P30sk is definitely the giant killer. It defies all logic, science, and established trains of thought for sure. It shouldn't shoot as well as it does, but it just gets it done somehow. Love my P30sk.
+DevilDolphin I just wish the USP had a 1913. But.... It is what it is. Trying to get another vp9. When I saw the torture test... You know who I'm talking about. I was very disappointed and sold it. Months later, came across another channel that did a legit torture test in Washington. Now I want one again. Life indeed hahaha.
nice video as usual bro. really enjoy your content. BTW have you shot the P2000 at all? from what i can tell it's pretty much a USPc with some slight improvements such as backstrap and universal rail. i absolutely love my P2000. shoots like a dream.
1. Hey, I’m a southpaw and JUST started inducing FTFs in this bc I’m pressing up on the slide lock with my trigger finger (somehow). Trying to reduce muzzle flip with this tight grip. Any advice? 2. Any VERY concealable AWIB rigs for this thing you recommend? Thanks!
i have this in 40 and its actually not bad....wish i had it in 9 and 45 instead. id give up my glock 19 and some cash and would have my ideal pair. if i could do it over right? i dont even mind keeping the 40 LOL, i shoot it good enough and good ammo is reasonably priced these days!
cdnn has pretty good deals on mags but i think the 9mm is boringly superior. i recently sold mine for $700 LOL but jokes on me because even though im holding onto that money i still havent bought a vp9 or p30sk
jacob manalang I wish I could own a vp9 but we are not allowed to have it here in California. There is a list of guns that has been deemed "safe" here in California and the vp9 isn't one of them.
when gun folks talk guns they tend to forget that not everyone knows a ton about guns..when you say m11 you should refer to the civilian version of that.. not everyone knows what the m11 is and the tlr3..
I can kinda see what you are saying, but what is a non civilian version of an M11. Since we are talking about pistols I thought of something by sig. I knew it was some variant of a 226. I thought it was the P228.....actually after googling year I was on track its the 228 similar to the 229. I seriously doubted he was talking about a mac11. On the other hand I don't think anyone not into guns will be looking at a USP. TLR3 is a flashlight by streamlight he did mention that it was a flashlight.
You could also get a P2000, it was made as an update of the USP compact, it has some different features and the ergonomics is slightly different, maybe you would enjoy it I have the USP compact in 9mm myself, I have held and shot briefly the P2000, they're both amazing so you can't go wrong with either!
Not really, but you will feel the push more. I also ran a mixture of 165gr and 180gr 40 when I had mine in the past. But that was admittedly a long time ago. I would opt for a fullsize P30L or USP 40 if you wanted to give 40 a shot.
If it is a new shooter, or someone getting their first HK, I'd say DA/SA. It's a good standard that is relatable. For an advanced shooter, or someone with HK's already, then the Light LEM is awesome.
John - you can maintain a good grip with your thumb and three fingers. The USP and 1911 and Beretta designs have nice long slide stops. Also, the P220 family decocker falls there easily, but we only decock when we’re NOT under stress.
Hey.....wait a minute...my hammer is circumcised, and its wearing a rubber. LOL I didn't know that they came with the full hammer, or did you modify yours?
+Jonathan Frost sig srt triggers are pretty awesome. I have 5 sigs and they are great. But I struggle to get past the fact they make rainbow and tribal guns and 50 variations of each.
I will say, Sig has fallen off hard. The P226/229/228 are the only guns I'd run. I know Wolvee likes the 1911's too, I might give one a chance in like...10 years but, for me a Sig has to be a DA/SA 9mm or an X5 or X6 in 9mm. I hate almost all of the new sigs except the models I've listed. I do like the new P320 enough to have rented it twice, but the jury is out on if I'll own one ever. The P226 9mm Legion is on my short list.
+DevilDolphin all my current sigs have been perfect. We had a 229 dark elite the sights kept coming loose on, but functioned fine. They're great guns, just not crazy about their business model. But I guess you gotta sell guns, so, whatever. Hks just do something special for me:)
Well I carry my VP9, but honestly my carry gun when I first started out at 21 years old was a USPc. The USPc is a perfect carry size and weight. It also offers you quite a bit of capacity with the VP9 mags. If you're asking which of the two is a better carry gun, it's the USPc, but I tend to prefer full size guns anyway, I used to carry a USP45 and HK45 when I was younger and dumber. So the VP9 is my preferred 9mm all the way around. Ultimately which platform of the two that I would choose.
I don't need a red dot that's why i go to the range. From 10 yards away I got you. Learn to shoot. I got lots of USP compacts and full size including the Expert.
I own all three of these pistols that you mentioned and each one is outstanding. What you are going to do with your first pistol should dictate your choice. For example, if you are going to CCW then I would suggest the Hk because it will be lighter and more comfortable, but limited ammo capacity. If you want something for home security, the I would recommend the Sig 226 or 229, higher capacity and size is not an issue However, the best recommendation to you is to borrow or rent all three and go out and shoot them. Then you decide which one you like the best.
UltimateEnd0 HK ALL THE WAY. It is a TANK; will not fail you; is extremely accurate; has a great trigger, IMHO; has an awesome feel in your hand (great for unholstering and getting on target efficiently); and is SIGNIFICANTLY more concealable than the SIGs. One last note: with SIG's currently abominable QC, when it comes to buying a GTWG, I wouldn't consider them. Think of the USPc as the Teutonic hammer of Thor!!
I wanted to get on that group buy, but I just can't support it at the moment. I've got to get an SP5K, along with an MR762, and the VP9 FDE's. I've also got to get a SCAR17, and stop going to cabelas on HK rescue runs. I can't wait to shoot that SD I picked up. I'll make sure to blame you heavily during the review.
+DevilDolphin rescue runs I like that. I do the same at my Gander Mountain the used gun manager calls me whenever I lost HK comes in so far that has resulted this year and a p7 stainless and 13 and HK91 irescue Siberian Huskies as well at 5 of those and a safe full of HKs I think I'm done right now
Man,you are handling loaded gun, cocked with safety off, you're professional, meaning you use guns at "work"... I believe you know what you doing but RU-vid "comies" and other keyboard commandos could report you or give you a "fine ticket"! Just heads up man!! Keep up with great videos, best HK channel on RU-vid btw...
I have shot this gun a lot but never owned one, was a great gun, and great quality but I just never understood the HK hype. And a lot of HK owners I know turn their nose up at any gun but an HK! Lol I just never understood why, because yes they make good guns but I rather have a lot of other guns over most all HKs! Great video and yes it's a great gun!!
Thank you sir, and I do respect people appreciating, but not owning HK's. They're an investment for sure, and you can have multiple guns over just one or two HK's. I've got quite a few myself. They've been a large investment for sure. The quality is there, they've never let me down, and no other brand fits me better. Believe me, I wish it wasn't like this at all.
