If your willing to trust me I've been looking into lights for months and HLG 550 v2s are a great plug and play light. So are Rapid LED set ups that use the chilled logic pucks if you want to get more wattage for your dollar and don't mind a bit of work. And if you want to go all out and spend top dollar in a 4x4 or 5x5 get a ROI e680 or a similar bar light from Gavita or Fluence. Avoid amazon and alibaba lights as they cut corners on design and quality not to mention there is no guarantee that anything they tell you about the light parts/performance is true.

*optic is a good company as well but I would look into rapid led if you want a puck set up. Rapid just has a better platform to build on in my opinion. Also a company called Black Sail makes an interesting light called the cannon that pulls 320 watts with a similar albeit much larger design. It's only $350 I was considering getting one for a 3x3 myself.

Btw a decent priced light is typically 1.50 per watt and you are going to want at least 400 ACTUAL watts for a 4x4 give or take. And ignore anything about "1000w hid equivalent" or "replaces a 600w cmh" all that is irrelevant they are comparing apples to oranges. And if a light is priced too good to be true it is!

Sf 4000 is cheaper price but is a pain in the ass to access dimmer feature.hlg v2 is easier to dim if that’s important to you. And uses osram deep red diodes. Can’t find info on what brand red diodes they use on sf4000. Believe they both would do a good job. But do your own research

I finally tested and it's what I expected, directly under the rspec board at about 12 inches from the LEDs the meter reads around 1000ppfd. At six inches it's 1700 and ~18 inches ~600 ppfd. Around 40% increase over the Chinese boards from Alibaba. Like I said, mine were 3000k qb288 with 6 660nm and 2 720nm reds per board. Don't remember the company name producing them but they claim top bin diodes from Samsung were used and they obviously were NOT used. You can go ahead and try to save money like I did on Chinese boards but here's an example of what very well may happen. I wasted 300 bucks on six boards. They probably under perform four rspec boards at the same price point. All the six boards equate to, for me, is a waste of electricity (aka money). I have no personal gain by sharing this info. Peace fellow ledheads

I would say with the 260 during flower u could get closer. I'd keep it at 36 for the seedlings and keep it dimmed down then slowly crank it up and drop it down as they get established

I have the HLG 550V2 (not R spec) I am into my 2nd crop...just about to harvest. Both crops did not finish in 8 wks (Same strains and used HID on one crop before the LEDs and they finished in 8wks) I am hearing that the Quantum LED boards are causing longer flowering times. This aligns with my experience thus far. It also appears that HLG realized this issue and upgraded to the V2 R... only they did it about 2 weeks after I bought my V2 for 900$...needless to say I felt kind of ripped off.

@@Glenno666 No, it won't heat up your tent too much, it doesn't heat up mines like that and I have a 2x2 with a small fan and even if you find that it does, just leave the tent open a little and you should be fine.

People who have been pushing led lighting so much are extremely misleading, especially since they aren't scientists and even admit to not knowing exactly how the sensor works. Hid bulbs emit the same quality of light in a 360° sphere, if you take a reading directly under the light you can get anywhere from 1100 - 2800 ppf, from 1000w de hps. heres where things get interesting and directly misleading, when you take a reading off to the side of the hid light and keep the sensor pointed straight up, a large portion of the light actually reflects off the sensor and doesn't take a true reading of the ppf that's actually being emitted. If you turned the sensor to look at the light youd end up with a similar reading to it being directly under the light. Why does this matter? Well that's simple. Plants absorb energy, they dont reflect it, you get a more accurate and realistic reading when aiming the sensor at the light. Hid lighting is still the best and the best commercial growers still use de hps for their flower rooms. This is fact.

They are PPFD. PPF is the the total light output of the fixture

@@Ledgrowlightsdepot PPFD is a measurement across a given area bud. Spot measurements DO NOT provide PPFD. Only when multiple readings are taken and averaged over a given area (usually m²) would you be providing PPFD. You cant create any density factor without taking into account the area of light you are measuring.

I understand what you are saying, but from my understanding, a quantum sensor measures PPFD. It is a spot measurement though. 'Average' PPFD is what you are referring to when you take the average of the spot readings over the given area. PPF (total light output) can only be measured in an integrating sphere.

Be careful...read about increased flowering times using Quantum LED boards,. I got burned on the HLG 550V2... im 10 wks in and not finished yet (Crop #2). And its an 8 wk strain confirmed using HIDs. Research more before laying down the 900$

Pretty much every other comparable commercial light of this quality will run you around $1400-$2000 each. $1049 is a steal for commercial growers, not to mention bulk discounts/ green energy subsidies for going with LED's over HPS.

Rodney Brown the majority of people aren’t commercial growers though and if we buy it all separate it’s a lot cheaper. If they are geared towards selling these to commercial growers, that’s fine. The smart ones will buy the stuff separately and build it themselves. It’s easily done and in my opinion it’s a rip off when you pay that much for a light that will take a few years for it to pay itself off. But, opinions are like assholes we all have one.

@GrowTent Revolution-California everyone will soon have to with inevitable energy restrictions coming. Growers use 2% of the total power in the U.S. This is incredibly unsustainable. Which is why larger operations are now getting ahead of legislation.

@anthony some other manufactures do use the same LED`s, but only HLG & Samsung get the very best that meet design specification. The lesser quality with lower output and shorter lifespan get on sold to get rid. The duds get thrown in the trash.

Sorry, but that isnt even close to being accurate. If you buy cheap lights, you get less quantity AND quality. The end results ALWAYS speak for themselves

This light was updated with the HLG 600 Rspec. It is currently $775. I suggest you check out HLGs other fixtures in their current line up. The Scorpion Diablo is a fantastic light.
