Scar therapist Hannah Poulton offers practical tips and ideas to help you look after your C-section scar during the first eight weeks after birth (please note: in this video it should say they dont cut your abdominals but seperate them).
"I wanted to share my personal and professional experiences of how you can look after C-section scars," says Hannah.
"I had a C-section myself in 2017 and not only was the experience traumatic, the after care was quite limited. It spurred me on to want to help more women after their C-sections to help them recover well and know what to do.
"So during the opening eight weeks after birth, here is some advice..."
* 1 to 4 Weeks: You have come home and the scar may feel tight and sore. That's perfectly normal and it will settle down with time. You can keep it clean with a bath or shower, which is nice and relaxing. If you have a bit of a tummy, lift it up and let the air get to your scar. It allows the scar to dry slightly and you can gently pat it dry with a towel too. Begin to engage with your scar with a super light touch, like the weight of a 20 pence piece on the back of your hand.
When you get out of bed, use the pendulum approach. Roll on your side, drop both legs over the bed, sit up on the edge of the bed and then stand.
Use lots of pillows to support yourself in the opening few weeks. A C-section cuts through seven layers of your skin, muscle, fat and tissue. Your tummy muscles will be cut through so sitting up might be painful in the first few weeks.
* 4 to 6 Weeks: Now is the time to engage with your scar. Lots of ladies see me who are not even able to look at or touch their scar. We never force anyone to do this. But if you can, start to look at and touch your scar very lightly. Use a moisturising gel or cream to nourish and protect your scar. The right type of cream and gels can help like aloe vera, tea tree and chamomile. Press very lightly over your scar. Really take your time because your body and mind have been through a massive experience and it can take an immense toll on your body.
* 6 to 8 Weeks: I see ladies between 6 to 8 weeks and we go through some products that can help and we look at how the C-section is affecting the rest of your body and whether you have pain in your hips and back or top of legs and maybe your chest. These symptoms are common and we work on them together with gentle hands-on therapy.

How do I shower after a c section 😭 I had an emergency c section 5 days ago and they didn't explain restrictions or anything all they said is that I could do it. I'm a plus sized girl so I have a B belly .... I really need a shower 😭

@@xxchaotictemptationxx3037you should be able to have a shower now, but please ask a medical practitioner who knows you. Just use warm water and no harsh chemicals and pat dry your scar after

Hi we have a video on the overhang. Please check it out! Just clear water, no soap and I wouldn’t use salt water in the early stages. Just plain water

Everywhere ive looked says NOT to have a bath!! Im not sure why, but maybe stick to that one. Barely 2 mins in and aside from that i feel like ive got more direction from this lady than the Dr who did the surgery or the Drs/Midwives after. Really working through a lot of trauma from my emergency c section just over 2 wks ago (my first bub) and this informative video is making me feel better already 😊🎉❤

I just subscribed because I can’t find the answers I need. I’ve been exercising and lost a lot of weight. My mommy pooch is still there after 3 months giving birth thru c-section. It got smaller with doing some core strengthening exercises but it feels numb and like a rock when I touch it. Is this normal ? And I heard it takes 1 year to get a flat tummy

My doctor cleaned my wound and it reopened. I think it’s because he was rough. 😢😢😢 where I’m from they don’t recommend we take care of our own scars. A little bit of blood and what seems like clear fluid (when it dries up it turns gold) comes out. My scar is a week old. And three days after , I had to go back for another operation because there was brown fluid coming out (doctor said it’s a Haematoma) I don’t want to go back to my doctor because I’m just worried it’ll get worse. Will I be able to go to another practitioner to help me with my scar?
