Valve would never make Half life 2 episode 3 because which one sounds better “half life 3” or “half life 2 episode 3 the fourth part to the second part of the epic adventures of Gordon freeman” its quite obvious which one is going to make them more money.
Yeah that’s my fear as well. Half-Life 3 is just 1000x cooler than Half-Life 2: Episode Three. Which is why I mentioned that they may just do „Half-Life: Whitesands“ or something to have a nice title and also stay true to the idea of Marc Laidlaw
What if HLX is a prequel to Half Life 1? You play as one of the first explorers of Xen, one of the many corpses that Gordon sees there in HL1. They have HEV suits, plus you’d be facing Xen enemies almost exclusively, so it seems to fit. I don’t really think this will be it, but it’s an interesting possibility.
Would be an interesting idea. If not for the fact that the manhacks and combine soldier ai is referenced in the code files. As well as the gravity gun.
i still think it's half-life 3. it may not be CALLED half-life 3, but it'll take place after episode 2. the gordon freeman icon found in deadlock makes me convinced of that. first of all, i'm pretty convinced that you play as gordon freeman in HLX. yes, colette & gina also have an hev suit, however i cannot see them having a gravity gun (the gravity gun is part of the leaks, they reworked parts of its code and fairly recently moved it out of the source 2 fgd to put it into the hlx fgd). the gravity gun is definitely a black mesa east exclusive thing, and i cant see a story explanation for a random girl in xen from black mesa to have a gravity gun. now, as i stated before, a gordon freeman splash icon exists and it was found in deadlocks files (Deadlock\game\core\tools\images\buildwatch\build_break_master.png)
True, the gravity gun is a strong point, one that could only be countered if we assume it was only moved for testing. I didn’t know those exact details, that truly does strengthens the Freeman protagonist theory!
I bet valve has pretty much leaned into the joke of never counting to three, so its a very likely scenario they'll name it anything other than "Half Life 3"
In my opinion HLX stands for Half-Life: Xen, Project Whitesands is a reference to black mesa so I wouldn't be suprised if HLX would be some sort of source 2 game focusing around the Half-Life 1 timeline or if it were just some vr exploring game.
Why would they use a codename that has obvious references to HL? None of the other codenames had anything to do with the game they were covering. Stop that cope.
@@lennysmileyface Actually, sometimes they do. Half-Life:Alyx had codename "Jamiroquai" and you know what's his most popular song is? "Virtual Insanity"
I personally don't mind if it is a sequel do HL:Alyx, as long as it is more Half-Life. I don't see a scenario which all the mysteries are solved, as it would take away all the things that makes this story interesting.
@@1lucia Thanks, thats some pretty high compliments! Believe me I have tried many times to make my own EP3 mods but always fail... Maybe one day I will make an extended version of it
i was thinking i would never witness continuation of this story :D (if hlx is anothe prequel or game-presentation of some technology they created im gonna cry)
issues with this: deckard scenario: tyler mcvicker, the source of half of this, describes this very specifically as a non vr project. it's not this prequel scenario: many of the assets found from datamining are hev suits AND gravity guns. there's only one guy with both, and hes gets the gravity gun in hl2. therefore, gordon freeman is involved, and it takes place after half life 2. perhaps gordon is not involved, and its someone with the gravity gun who isnt gordon? maybe alyx dons the old suit? episodic scenarios: valve has long confirmed that this has been abandoned imo its probably half life 3 or at least has been half life 3 at some point, maybe transformed into something else
what i HOPE happens is kinda a mix of everything (mostly bc i made the idea), to sum it up and not make an overly long comment, they should have it pick up from when eli should have died, but in return, alyx is put in stasis and because of the vortigaunt powers, she needs to be saved. From here, one of the nerds think of a way they could get through to find her and thats by finding the borealis, but first they need to go through city 15, probably finding cremators or something, and managing to find the borealis, but its been taken over by the combine. the player gets inside by killing a shit ton of combine and steal the borealis, using the technology on it to teleport to xen and thats what I HOPE they do with the X part of HLX, idk where else it would go from there but thats kinda just my idea
I feel like we're getting close to some kind of announcement for a new Half Life game. HL2 is approaching its 20th anniversary and a test branch for it was created recently, so we'll possibly get an anniversary update for HL2 alongside an announcement, I hope. Alyx was announced just before HL1's 21st anniversary and we're getting close to November now
I still remember when in "leaks of hl3" someone told that "it's gonna be desert and bullet behaviour will be based on temperature. that was like 7 years ago
I won't lie, this is all quite scary and quite exciting. Thanks for making a video on it, its good to have all the new stuff in one place until we (hopefully) get news soon
Nice video.. very interesting ideas! ***Contains spoilers for HL:A*** My personal view is that the next Half Life will be something that will get majority of players (who didn't play the VR) up to date with story progression by HL:A (so basically pc players who haven't played it still). So how i see it, Valve will continue with Epistle 3 written by Laidlaw with some changes ofc which will serve as direct sequel to Episode 2 but it will tie back to HL:A ending hence getting every HL fan on same page and preparing everyone for next HL game, be it HL4 or Ep4.. Here's how I imagine it.. it will have Gordon, Alyx going to borealis (continuing Ep 2) and with it jumping through dimensions and Xen, we will reach the end where G-man will appear and give a chance to Alyx to save her father in the PAST, and then take her away. So it will mean that Alyx was always supposed to be taken away by G-man in grand scheme of things/and timeline principles but because it's him, he nudged the time and did it earlier in HL:A. So basically we will be back to Gordon and Eli having to go to Borealis, which is the ending of HL:A again. With this, they can not only get everyone on same page but also prepare for far bigger game in future where they can show not only Gordon and Eli going to Borealis but also what happens after that with saving Alyx from G-man and so on. It will keep story open, and Valve wont have the burden to finish the story.. and honestly it sounds like a Valve thing to do 😂
I could definitely see the possibility of another hl:d game being possible, only because it seems like something they’d like to come back on. I mean they did just have the 25 year anniversary for HL1. I still find it strange that they wouldn’t also be working on hl2:ep3/hl3 because somebody took the time to render the ending and script the ending of ep3 in the new engine. I think if we see an anniversary update for hl2 and the episodes we are for sure going to see the next episode.
i was also thinking about the half life xen theory and that you may be playing as half life decay protagonist or maybe just maybe it could be a sequel to half life 2 episode 2 (retconned version) taking into consideration that Eli says at the end of HL:A that '' We've got work to do'' maybe somehow welding some action around xen where gordon gets sent by eli and kleiner into xen to find the source of Gman's teleportation powers and eliminate it, alongside with bringing alyx from there (maybe gman places the stasis subjects into a hidden place in xen -> he mentions at the end of half life 1 that '' The border world, Xen, is in our control for the TIME BEING maybe reffering that in the future gordon alongside eli and the vorts will take it in control in order to set Alyx free from gman's hands and only after all this they come back to go to the borealis, or maybe they somehow use the borealis with the help of Judith to get extracted from Xen after releasing Alyx and destroying Gman's source of power) I JUST COOKED
Well, in the current lore state we have a hole: HL Alyx starts 5 years before HL2 and at the game end Alyx jumped to a post Episode 2 time and was captured by Gman because he wants Eli alive, so at this point Alyx shouldn't exist on the world when Gorden meet her in HL2. So my guess is that HLX is a sequel from HL Alyx AND Episode 2 together where we play as Gordon going to Xen to save Alyx in some way, bring her back to her right place in spacetime and erase her memories to the events from HL2 may happer in the propper way.
The thing with the 2 games at once, I think maybe they saw HL:A and how they modded it to play for non-VR players.... and then they thought "why don't we just have a VR and non-VR build of the same game and integrate full features into both builds" to get everyone to buy/play the game
This is my POV about this: HLA spoilers: The HLA "world" is a false past created with the only purpose to put a test to Alyx after this, the HLA "false past" disapear and at the same time he claims Alyx. There are so many things that are different due to what happens that the hl2 can not happen the same to reach the same ending of ep2. Now for me HLA its the actual EP3 and the previous involvement of the borealis is now for HL3 (not need to be the end of the history). So if there is a sequel for HLA it cant be at 201- that doesnt exists, it will be 202-. May be we are getting a spin-off and HL3 at the same time. What we know is that Valve is no more afraid of HL and Source 2 seems to be ready.
Well, in short, hlx could be one of these t**ee things: 1) not half life or steam deck aperture desk jop type shi 2) half-life 2 episode -1 (hl2 prequel) x) half life x (or half life 2 episode x) where x is the number after two (we all know that gabe isn't strong at math, so...)
you could've delved into the 2 game possibility more, cause if there are 2 simultaneous secret games in the works, very well you could get a 1 2 punch of content, a episode 3 focused smaller sequel, and then a fully fledged Half life 3, also, the Borealis could very well need to travel through Xen for a chapter or 2, also the gman was always implied to be able to rewind time, the vortigaunts i believe laidlaw said (fact check me cause this is going off memory) they did rewind time in Episode 1 to get gordon before the gman which they then trapped him so freeman was free, and the vortigaunts and gman could always peer into future events, I think the only change is Gman being able to affect the future unlike the vortigaunts (which was also using votessence to add), which you could explain as Gman being a Being from a 4th dimension which is a dimension of time and or the vortessence and whatever gman has allows the traversal of time like a normal spatial dimension (which also since space and time are linked would maybe even allow the travel through space in a teleportion sorta way)
Honestly, wrapping up the franchise with the title ‘Half-Life 3’ would definitely end the entire series. And I don’t want it to end just yet lol, much of the plot has still gone unanswered such as Colette Green, Barney Calhoun, Adrian Shepard, and more
I've waited so long for the conclusion of this story so I would be disapointed if we get half-life 3 which would end with another cliffhanger for another 15 years.
Bro I'm so impressed with how much detail and theories you come up with. Your efforts are amazing, and I'll be happy to say that I watched till the end :) Also all I wish for Half Life X is to be a sequel to episode 2, and introducing more Xen wild life? Or maybe just a few new enemies. Borealis of course. Maybe we get to see more links in between half life and portal
I have a theory it could be a Half Life 1 type game set in Black Mesa during the Resonance Cascade and we are a different scientist wearing a HeV suit.
Probably another prequel to Half-Life 2. But we play as Adrian Shephard. I mean after all, Adrian was and still is in stasis after Half-Life 1. Would make sense to see him return as a main protagonist to help fight the Combine alongside Gordon Freeman. Plus, Xen wouldn't make sense to make a return in plot in HL3, since we've already explored that in HL1 as Gordon. And also the HEV suit & HECU's Power Combat Vest does shares some similarities when comes to charging and healing. So it kind of makes sense if the next HL is another prequel but we play as Adrian Shephard, like imagine the prologue chapter opens up with Adrian waking up to seeing Xen, while the player is still inside of the V-22 Osprey. Idk, just my theory. Though i would love to see we play as Adrian Shephard again. :)
i was saying "half life decay 2" as a complete joke but now knowing other people have thought about it being a possibility i am very scared of half life decay 2 becoming real
half life xen will probably a cross play game, where co op is possible but not strictly required, one person in vr playing in xen, and one person not in vr walking around interacting with things and helping out the other person, but who isn't gordon. with the idea being that if you don't play co op like this, if you play single player only, that you do stuff on earth outside of vr, and each time you get to a good point your character puts on vr goggles and that means the player in reality has to as well, and then you play in xen in vr and do stuff in xen. thats how I'd do it anyway. I'd also intentionally not make this episode 3 or half life 3 whatso ever, instead it'll just be half life 'xen' with a focus on xen. maybe the guy you play as when in xen is a vortigaunt being controlled remotely like a drone by someone on earth? but I imagine some scientist sent in a remotely controllable robot. in co op however, the xen player in vr is an actual character and not a robot that needs to be remotely controlled. actually, just had a thought, moving around quickly in xen in vr would be vomit inducing, so maybe the xen segments will be in non-vr where the character takes their goggles off and interacts with a computer for remotely controlling the robot on xen. but when the player plays as that guy the player puts vr goggles on and the scientist takes theirs off or puts on a hev suit helmet, and you then play as that guy walking around on earth as if it was half life alyx. this makes slightly more sense to me.
If its not 3, i honestly wouldn't mind getting another Half Life VR Game, id love to see more of this universe in VR. Also, if you're someone who hasn't played Alyx due to the barrier of VR, it's not nearly as hard to get into as it was back then. You can get a Quest 2 and play VR games Standalone on the Headset for 300 dollars. If you can afford a Series X or a PS5, you can afford VR. Although with titles like Half Life Alyx, you need a PC as its not on standalone, but even then, you can still use a Quest 2 so long as you have a Link Cable which goes for around 30 bucks. I'd go with Kiwi Design if you're looking for a good one. If you've yet to try VR, I'd highly recommend it as theres a pretty good library of decent to good games if you like things like Half Life, like Into The Radius, Walking Dead Saints and Sinners 1 and 2, Cosmodread, Arizona Sunshine 2, and in the coming months Alien Rogue Incursion and Metro Awakening. Theres some truly incredible experiences in VR that are definitely worth playing. Wish more people would give the medium a chance.
I believe HLX will most likely be continuation of hl alyx' story. To clarify, it will be continuation of episode 2, because at the end of alyx, you're back in control of Gordon. So in other words, it continues the original story where it left off, a combine force is still stranded on earth, there's a rebellion, but Alyx is captured. I'm thinking we will go to Xen in search of Alyx. If we look at gman's words, he doesn't necessarily want combine off earth, and he is immensely powerful. There's no way he'll allow combine invasion to end if he actually doesn't want it to. He's now also captured one of our closest allies. I think a big focus in HLX will be gman, and combine will take a secondary antagonist role. This might tie into your "end of HL2 era". Because effectively, we would no longer be on earth. Also if you think about it, earth has a pretty good chance of fighting off the combine force on it at the moment. However, earth almost has no chance of beating the entirety of combine. They're an intergalactic empire, what we see on earth is a very small part of their force.. If combine wants earth destroyed, it will be destroyed. So yeah, I think this game will be a new HL era, where we will either start to transition, or transition into what the next step is for earth. Do combine decide to leave us alone, do we make a pact with them to destroy or cast gman away somehow, is the main mission saving alyx, or earth? All of these are pretty foreign concepts when you compare them to HL2.
Half Life:Barney and Sheperd. a Coop FPS shooter set After Episode 2 showing what the hell barney did after leaving city 17 and just randomly shoving Sheperd in (Possibility:0%)
I have a question, what is it with Valve that everytime they update or a new game get's released there is lots of old content inside the game? Shouldn't they keep that as a secret? But anyways, whatever Valve end up doing, i know it will end up being huge!
if they are going to make a half life game after all these years of waiting it would 99% finish the storyline if not fans would be disappointed... unless they make an even bigger cliffhanger
Honestly, if they were to call it episode 3 it would be kind of strange. The Episodes always kinda felt like expansion packs, like just "more half-life 2", so for episode 3 to have a ton of new mechanics and a new engine just feels kind of strange. My unrealistic ideal scenario would be that they make an episode 3 using the original source engine to wrap up HL2's story, then go on to make the ultra revolutionary Half Life 3 on source 2.
Valve wouldn’t call it HL2E3 because of the implication of it being on the HL2 engine or a DLC or expansion upon HL2 and it’s engine - after valve tried HL2E3 a couple of times, all further attempts at a sequel were called HL3 so a sequel would probably be called that imo
I know it might not happen but I do genuinely feel that VR is the next step for gaming with valve. Valve makes great stories and that's what carries them a lot. But in terms of gameplay, there's only so much else you can do with a shooter that evolved from DOOM/QUAKE. I feel like going the VR Alyx direction was great. Playing that game made me feel like a kid again playing HL2 for the first time. And I believe that was the case because VR was so new and so different than a flat screen experience. We have so many FPS games and 3rd person games on flat screen that I feel it's hard to innovate. But VR is so new and there seems to be a lot of potential to what can be done and experienced. This is not to knock off flat screen games, I think you can have a very basic game as long as the story really holds up.
i think it wouldnt be disappointing if hl3 was the last hl game, its really hard making a sequel better than the first game in the series, plus xen elements could be in hl3 like ez2 did
hey, i'm have some suggestions, here, the steam mods (entropy zero not included) Year Long Alarm Amalgam Arctic adventure episodes (this game have a bad flashlight) Fast detect
They can't do half life 3 because it will abandon the episodic format, and they cant do half life 2 episode 3 because it sounds silly... the middle solution here is "Half Life : White Sands" imp and here is my opinion/theory about how its gonna be : it will most probably have nothing to do with the original story but have a strong connection to it, maybe the story would be from another POV (maybe has something to do with "7 Hour war"??). (I wish for this theory to not be true) OR its like what you said about Alyx reviving her dad and continuing forward.
If the next HL game is not an ending to Half-Life 2 and it's episodes I might drop the franchise, i've simply waited too long and i'm not going to wait for an ending another almost 20 years. Even if it is great I wont be able to enjoy it on its own merit if I have to wait another 6 years of development time to just know how Half-Life 2 ultiamtely ended. We've technically had nothing but cliffhangers for 20 years now
I think people should calm their expectations before scaring Valve into not releasing anything for another 17 years. I'm happy there's potential movement on the Half Life front but there's been sooo many prototypes that came and went during all those years, I can't get hyped just yet
How could people be disappointed by an Alyx sequel ? After playing it recently and being against VR for many years I simply don’t want to play any other way now. It’s mind blowing and truly transforms how one experiences video games.
