Come on Hornby. Surely in this day and age you can come up with a design whereby the trailing bogies have flanged wheels to run on the track. For me it’s a great loco let down by this anomaly.
@andrewrice6596
@andrewrice6596 2 года назад
My 1970's loco does and it runs perfectly well. It is certainly not an improvement having fixed bogies. Because of these bogies and rediculous price increases i have stopped buying new locos.
@HamStrains
@HamStrains 2 года назад
Nope, sadly not due to the radius of curve it must pass on the lower end layouts, there isn't enough space to really provide the lateral movement needed without resorting to something ugly like a bogie that swings out under the cab as they did in the past. They also provide a flanged wheel set should you wish to use it. Maybe you need to upgrade your layout if your curves cannot handle a large locomotive rather than ruin a large locomotives asthetics with said bogie choice in order to accomodate you wishing to run it on the same loop you got when you were 8.

@@HamStrains Bachmann's Pacifics have happily done this for years with no issue. It is possible, Hornby just don't bother engineering trailing trucks.
@HamStrains
@HamStrains Год назад
@@CrisisOnACanoe yeah and they don't fair too well on tight radius points at any kind of speed. Perceptively this is also just mountainously mundane as a complaint as most of you will likely never view the model from an angle where you see it. Never realised most modellers had eye level layouts. Really only looks at all bad if you film it and put it on youtube 😅 maybe thats the issue we are all watching other peoples layouts instead of building and enjoying our own, all repeating other peoples opinions instead of forming our own.

We're actually ready for mag wheels like on cars. We're not the old people from 100 years ago. We're all used to hotwheels as a concept but toy train manufacturers think we're all stuck in the past. We want modern steam trains. Custom colours. Aftermarket wheels. Etc...

I don’t 100% recognise it, but it might be from the Hornby or Bachmann colliery range. It looks like it would be very easy to scratch build from Metcalfe materials.
@musoseven8218
@musoseven8218 2 года назад
I think it is from one of the colliery ranges, scratch build it though either from foam board or mounting board, make a mock up from old cerial packet card, at first, if unsure. What sort of building are you after? Look for photos on line count the bricks etc for sizing and have fun👍😊✌️

Is that thick silver rim around the driving wheels realistic? Looks a little odd to me

@@1701_FyldeFlyer that's my opinion too. Always felt Hornby made better loco wheels than Bachmann because Bachmann's often look like this. Now Hornby are copying Bachmann. Step backwards in my opinion

@@1701_FyldeFlyer Just looked at the real thing and it is accurate. Roughly the thickness of the rail or just under. Scotsman has it painted black now so I think seeing it unpainted makes it looks odd but it is accurate.

Why is the green different from the previous br green? The one standing one is gonna drive me nuts. I have like 15 br green models all the same. What is Hornby doing?
@maringarvanovic8011
@maringarvanovic8011 2 года назад
BR green, Brunswick green has been a talking point for years. Hornby seem to do it a lot lighter than Bachmann. Is there a right answer?. Not sure as it would have been sourced from different suppliers.

Interesting that the Scotsman has polished tyres on the driving wheels but not the rest. Also disappointing that they haven't immediately given these the 21-pin interfaces, like their 2022 product announcement said they would do for all the new models coming.

Magazines always reluctant to criticise a manufacturer , so a “little bit of flex” really meant warped running plate to the extent people called them ski slopes ! They really needed to do something to eradicate this . Unfortunately the price ha skyrocketed too even though it’s a limited upgrade . Other models such as J15, J36, B12 already have metal running plates . It really shouldn’t attract a premium

Beautiful detailing to my uncultured eyes 👀, but even they can see that the Pony Truck is suspended in Mid Air 🤷🏻‍♂️. 8 pin, 21 pin, 🙄- I refuse to be dragged down the dcc route. My Apple Green LNER 4472 cost me £45, and looks stunning pulling a small rake of “Teaks”which cost £33 inc postage. She Pulls away gracefully, runs smoothly and Slows to a Gradual Stop, using my Gaugemaster controller. That’s how I like my Hobby, but each to his own eh!😜

When one restores a locomotive, car or motorcycle, they are remade as they left the factory. Flying Scotsman is not 60103, it is 4472 LNER as remembered by most people around the world. It appeared in America and Australia as 4472. After spending 4.5 Million Pounds on the restoration they then painted it in the wrong colour Green and affix a number that it ended its life as a Main Line, revenue-earning locomotive. The first item one notices is the A3 had a superheater and as it was too wide for the Smokebox they had to add extra plates on the outside of the smokebox. There is only one Flying Scotsman and that is 4472. Martin. (Annoyed in Thailand)
@spankflaps1365
@spankflaps1365 2 года назад
Hornby/Tri-ang has always made the Flying Scotsman in apple green as well, going back to the 1950’s. They also show one in apple green in this video. I have 40 A1’s and A3’s in both colours (and some in blue). Most modellers remember the BR Green livery in service and they model the later era, so they aren’t interested in the older livery.

Matter of preference not current audience figures who likes what and in any case Hornby are bound to do it in another livery. I love all BR liveried steam locos and early diesels but still respect the big 4 and pre grouping liveries. Room for all
