The best egg rolls I have ever had when I was a kid....I remember in the 80's when Hmong people came to Minnesota. I was born and raised there and out while neighborhood changed over night. It was a culture shock but it was awesome. And the. In 2000 Somali people came. We have hands down theeeeeeeee best and diverse food in the twin cities because of the immigrants that came over....only thing I miss about Minnesota is my family, the food, the people, and......the Hmong markets.

In 1996 I was living in St. Paul and the Hmong New Year Celebration was going on inside of the Civic Center. I lived just down the street so I went in for a visit. Glad I did! I was one of very few farang there but didn't feel unwelcomed. Entry was free and I wasn't charged an arm and a leg to try new food. That one event has had a huge impact on my life. Another point about the Hmong in The Cities. When they came here they had no choice but to live in the "poor part of town" ie Frogtown. Within 10 years crime was down, test scores were higher and the city raised property tax. A few years later, Lutheran Social Services doubled down, and lost on the Somalian.

If you have had the pleasure to come to Hmong Town or Hmong Village, it is the epiphany and the embodiment of America. It's a cultivation of all kinds of culture. Everything from food to clothes to movies and all various kinds of product. The only reason why we do implement alot of different food from all over the world into our menu of food is because we are literally a race of people who has immigrated ALL over the world and see no boundaries when it comes to culture and religion. Hmong people are some of the most welcoming batch of people in the world and it comes down to the fact that we know the feeling of being forced out countries and home lands because of our race and culture and so we relate to many in those ways.

One thing people don't know also is that alot of southeast Asian cuisine is shared and made into their own. Everyone adds their own flare to it and im cool with it cause I've tried it. I'm Lao but I have hmong friends as well and I like the differences and similarities. Nothing wrong with it. I cant say how it is in the homelands tho but thats my view here in the states personally. Posted this cause I saw the comment "stealing food recipes". One love guys

@@BabyC-Pot You do know there are 50 ethnic minorities in Laos, right? Did you take the time to realize that they also contributed to the creation of Lao cuisine? Lao cuisine will always be preserved because you have a country. Hmong are a hilltribe people, they cannot retain their recipes. Hmong people have no political power nor a country to take anything from the country of Laos. Lao people will always have their laab, khao poon and their ways of life. Hmong on the other hand, will adopt and borrow from other cultures to replace what was lost during their migration. You have to understand the Hmong diaspora. Your ancestors treated us badly, you do not get to tell us how we should or shouldn't be Hmong. Our cuisine is not considered Lao food. Hmong food isnt bland, Hmong food is not just boiled pork with greens. Hmong food is Asian Fusion with Chinese, all of Southeast Asia, French and American inspirations.
