In this video I build and paint a diorama of a WWII warship getting attacked by a Warhammer40K demon. I go through some scale modelling and table top gaming painting techniques as well as some water effect techniques. Working with epoxy and UV resin.

Your journey with the resin made think about how much work went into the “Best of Show” winner of this year’s Scale Model Challenge by Per Olav Lund. If you’re unfamiliar with his piece, definitely check it. It blew my mind with the shear ammount of story that’s packed into a moment in time.

Alex, Yes please, build another warship diorama (some day) with a dry dock in it. As always you combine a brilliant narrative with an innovative approach, a wonderful crossover melding military model building and fantasy sci fi. I suppose I could carp and say that I'd rather see the good guys (that would be the ship and intrepid crew) defeat Vashtorr, but for dramatic purposes you nailed it --again. As a minority of one _ my favorite part of this build and video were the clips showing the little crew; I know they're just supporting players in this drama, but well done, well done. Cheers!

In the youtube hobby world this vid takes the Oscar in eleven categories across presenting, writing and technical categories and more than that is a sincere adventure in model making and presentation from a gifted, thoughtful, hobby adventurer. What a joy to watch It also touched my heart directly, I've known Alex through his Patreon and discord for a couple of years now, but what he doesn't know is that my beloved childhood hero, my wonderful, loving grandad was a commando in the boats that followed the Campbeltown in at St Nazaire. (Yes, I am borderline elderly lol) He was also one of the few that fought his way back out and survived the return. So there you have it, lovely models made spectacular, another wonderful vid, and the loving bear of a family man that came home from St Nazaire and all the other brutal engagements to teach his infant grandson that a man's job, his value is to work for and protect those he loves, all else is just hobby 🙂

He left behind his peace of mind in 1942 and never escaped the nightmares, but still managed to be an awesome loving figure in my life and my benchmark for being a man. Absolutely brilliant as ever. I wonder if that splash gel could be used as an alternative for Modge Podge for river surfaces, and also if you can use regular watercolour pencil (with a varnish layer to fix them) for a similar effect to the AK ones?
@52Miniatures
@52Miniatures 11 месяцев назад
Thanks Adrian! It's a good combo. First doing mod podge, then splash gell. I guess it's all about what effect we are striving for. Mod podge makes nice ripples. Splash gel is a little more "violent". On the other hand, I did try watering down splash gel with a little water, creating a smoother fluid. That came pretty close to mod podge territory. The slash gel stays a little "rubbery" and probably is not a tough... so for a diorama thing the splash gel works but maybe on a base or in wargaming terrain the utter solid hard curing mod podge is better.

This was a great video, I like the varying paint styles between vashtor and the ship to highlight the clash of universes. Did you completely and definitively calculate the wing velocity of a fully laden vashtor? No, but then he doesn't have wings and that's not the point, but sometimes we are doomed to be called some kind of name by some easily triggered internet fellow. At least no one called you a tourist this time? (sorry I've probably jinxed it)

Very little scientific data was involved. It was surprisingly difficult to find reliable sources on deamon velocity vs early 1900's hull structure. I'm sure this is a line of enquiry completely looked over by science departments globally and should be remedied! What's that CERN thing there for in the first place if not for important work like this?

AK Intermediate Green watered down and stippled on with a sponge on a black base coat. Sort of 70% (ish) of the surface concentrating on where there would be highlights. "Washing" that with a very thinned down Anthracite Gray from Scale75. Trying to push the glaze into the "shaded areas" covering the black that is left. Going back with fresh layer of the first green on 40% of the areas facing upwards and that I want highlighted (like edges). Then edge highlighted with Fall Green Scale75

What’s the difference between those AK pencils and a regular watercolour pencil?
@52Miniatures
@52Miniatures 11 месяцев назад
It's a good question. I don't know what they put in their pencils. If its was based or grease based. I do plan on getting an assortment of pencils from an art store to compare.

Wave Alex~! Missed you! Amazing work as always, the ship really cam out well, and the deamon is great. Like the water effects on the ship's hull. May I ask what do you do with all these creations?

Thank you Lee! Most of these end up in a cupboard. I have one at home on display, the dreadnought / wwII build. I had some on display at Alphaspel gamestore but they seem to have lost interest. My builds are kind of pushed in at the back of a lower shelf and they have removed the "name tag", so I'm going to take those home again at some point.
