Hi Kevin. Nice work! Would you mind explaining how you cut the rebate in the keel please? Cutting an accurate rebate has always been a mystery to me so I have always avoided it, using sanding and filing instead. I’d rather do it the right way instead.
The best time to establish the rebate or RABBIT as its called is very early in the build before the frames are attached. I am assuming that this was not done and you are now trying to put it in. Take a look at my latest video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nQ47mZZN8qY.html. Where i am finishing the rabbit on the Thorn. To get a nice straight line i would use a metal ruler and make multiple passes with an exacto knife. Since in all probability you will end up painting the bottom white, if you make an error you can use filler and cover it up. The rasps help open it up to take the finial planking. Hope this is helpful.
@@kevinkenny5122 Thanks Kevin. I will have a look. I have built a couple of ships but never made a rebate (rabbet) in the keel before. I have built one boat with a full keel, like in a Corel kit and one with a false keel. I have just relied on sanding to get the job done. I have only seen a rebate recommended in a couple of places. Now that I've seen it, I think it's a better way to go.
