Well, from the Navy‘s standpoint, Charles II was a godsent. He‘s the founder of a standing Royal Navy, after all. He built as may ships as Parliament would alow him to do and he even tricked them into spending much more money on the Navy than they had initially intended. If you’re interested, the books „The Master Shipwright's Secrets : How Charles II Built the Restoration Navy“ and „Pepys's Navy: Ships, Men and Warfare“ would be a very good read.
