yes would like a video on recirculation and extraction. Also be nice to see the venting hob in action dealing with steam. Instead of a spill chamber can they run to a drain pipe direct to the outside if on an outside wall? Are they wider and deeper then normal hobs? Another disadvantage, no lights above cooker, a traditional cooker hood has lights.
🇬🇧 having spent The last two days planning (frustrating 🤯), researching Induction hobs and cooker hoods (I had the lightbulb moment of combing them this morning); small American style fridge/freezers for my small galley kitchen/diner - Somehow I found you - and I could not be more happier! Kettle is now on for tea and I am going to deep dive into all your planning/Lighting/layout and everything else videos! Thank God for you 👍🏼
Hi Michael great vid yet again 👍🏼 I’m having my house remodelled and the extension is one open living space, the kitchen area is having a vented hob on the island so your video is very timely. Because of it being on the island it will be a recirculating extractor
Ohhhh Thank you soooooo much!! I asked to you about it before and waited :-) And this video solved all my question!!! I will go with Venting Hob in the Island. Thank you so much 😻❤️❤️
Which brands are top and most effective with built-in extractor (hob)? Would be great to know more about between the circulating and non-circulating details you mentioned in this video. The pros and cons between extractors in more details, other than pricing. Also recommendation according to some specific needs (use of kitchen etc.) as well as kitchen designs. Your videos are excellent and very professional! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you, Michael. This is something I'm considering for the new kitchen. It is a galley kitchen in an older building. There is an outside vent, but I would like to put the induction cooktop on the opposite wall for better flow. Great info!
Thanks! That's a big benefit of these hobs, it gives you the freedom to put one anywhere. A huge bonus if it means you can improve the overall flow and functionality of your kitchen!
@@ps4402 Ah ok, we're going to pull the plug soon. Right now I'm thinking the space above the job can't be used anyway so why not have it above and then there's more space under the job and also less cleaning.. 🤷♂️
@@kitchinsider I'd love to understand whether I need the supplied ducting or not. It sounds, I hope, like you can install it in recirculating mode? You said you might produce a video on that? Please.
Hi Michael, what is your opinion on performance? Also, any brand or model to recommend. Will renovate my kitchen in a few months. Your content is very useful. Thanks
Hi Morgane! Personally I don't think venting hobs will ever beat a proper cooker hood directly above a hob. Heat/grease/smells all rise (some quite fast) and a venting hob doesn't catch everything. However, I still think its performance is very good considering the freedom if offers you. Over the years I've had a preference for BORA (usually a bit more expensive) but so many other brands are improving their models these days there's lots of good options. Thanks for watching/commenting!
I bought a lovely Elica NikolaTesla recirculating model (thank you Ebay) as my ultimate treat for the new kitchen we're putting in. I've just found out that because we are moving the kitchen to a different room we have to put a separate extractor in to vent outside. It's part of this years new regs. Hurrumph
That's stupid and makes the hob extractor redundant before they've had a chance to prove their capability. Anyone would think these regs are brought in to stop any new innovations being implemented
Hi Michael, love your videos despite being nowhere close to having the kitchen renovated, but a girl can dream right? I just recently came across hidden induction stoves underneath the countertop, do you have any experience with them? Thank you and best wishes from Austria
Thanks! Nothing wrong with dreaming about a kitchen renovation! I've seen them and had reps talk to me but I've never used one in a project before. Still a bit of an emerging technology i think. From my (limited) experience it's all about the countertop material that works with them and the (currently) limited choice. Not sure on cost either. They look very cool though! 😁
What name brands would you recommend me researching for a vented hob for my new build? It will be located on my kitchen island. Gas or induction? Does the ceramic cooktop scratch? Does anyone make a cooktop that doesn’t scratch?
Thanks Michael! Super useful. Are you able to install an oven just underneath it? I'm thinking about a built-in oven and a hob with a built-in extractor just on top of it in the same cabinet.
Thanks! Unfortunately not. A built-in oven in a standard base cabinet won't have enough space above for a hob with a built-in extractor because of the motor, filters and bits and pieces they need. They are quite a bit deeper than standard hobs. You might be able to fit a compact oven underneath, depending on the dimensions of the cabinet and venting hob as some are slightly shallower than others. Always best to double check dimensions of everything involved.
Hi thank you for this great video. I have heard venting hobbs are really noisy. If you are cooking something very simple are you able to switch that function off?
Would you ever buy a recirculating toilet? From an indoor air quality perspective you really want to remove the pollutants created during cooking and you can only remove things that get caught in a filter with a recirculating design. Downdraft hoods are pretty ineffective for the amount of air you are moving to begin with.
@@Beastphilosophy I was told to use recirculating mode by the kitchen supplier and thought that's what we are doing, so there is no ducting right now. I guess we will have to try it even though I would not use a recirculating toilet (whatever that might mean in practice) ... the macerating ones are gross enough.
Hi Michael, I want to install an Elica Nikolatesla one on my kitchen island, but the route of the ventilation pipes from the ventilation hob to the vent channel is about 5 meters on the ground. Will the ventilation hob work good? Thank you!
A venting hob on the kitchen island, in my opinion, is the best invention for a modern kitchen. In today's world, where people live in open spaces, cooking and entertaining should be in the same sphere. No more hiding or showing your butt while cooking. Not to mention how practical it is to cook RU-vidrs for a better filming experience.
Hah, my mother has one of those. We lovingly/mockingly call it the "Berlin solution", as her reasoning for wanting one was pretty much the same as that of the architects of the new Berlin airport wanting a system that sucks smoke down into the floor in case of a fire: Not wanting the ugly stuff at the ceiling. And just like in Berlin, it works... so-so.
I am not going for a venting hub. I prefer and normal hood, but without noisy motor in the kitchen. Then the motor unit is placed outside on the wall right under the ruff.
Hi Micheal, we are really keen on an island venting hob. I would like a combo induction and gas hob for my cooking needs. The Bora professional seems to be the only one on the market. Any experience with this one?
I actually spoke with Bora and had a good look at this yesterday at the KBB show. Really nice piece of kit. Well made, with some clever design details to it. I rate Bora highly anyway and this is a good options for combo venting cooking. You can get domino downdraft extractors (Caple do one) and then get a domino gas/induction hob either side. Personally, if budget allows I'd go for the Bora.
I couldn't agree more. My cooker is away from an outside wall, that's where the plumbing is and the space is occupied by a sink, washing machine and dishwasher. No room for a venting extractor along that wall
Hi Michael, another informative vid, these vids are so helpful. Where about are you based in the UK? I’m in process on initiating an rear extension project, would have been great to have your services to hand.
